Well, that is good to hear, but still . . . "WHAT ARE THEY GONNA DO ABOUT THE ONE IN DISNEYLAND (Califonia)?" Way back in 2000, I visited Disneyland and the attraction that I've enjoyed was a ride called "Rocket Rods" in which you and other riders board a rocket and raced around the old Peoplemover track nearing breaking speeds. A year or two after that visit, Disneyland announced that ride will closed down. Now I went to Disneyland a week ago (8-6-10) and although the track still stands, nothing is moving on it. All it's doing is standing there and looking ugly. Come on, Disneyland, either restore the ride, change it back to the old Peoplemovers, or just remove the rotten thing: the choice is simple. "Disneyland having their Rocket Rods back? That is somthing you can dream about!"

A quote that was submitted from dandaman: Well, good for him; I did the same thing for another attraction and I am happy to announce I was able to ride that ride I couldn't ride the year before. I think that this could be the newest trend in the world of weight loss: either lose that big fat or lose your seat. Your choice. "As for me, I can ride anything because I can fit into any restraints, but nobody ever takes me to an amusement park. Oh well, I can always dream about it.

Favorite Dark Ride
palmerleeberry replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ That's true, dear BigDipper80, but I did ride Horizons when I visited EPCOT in 1990 and the one part that blew me away (BIG TIME!!!) was when your car passed in front of a giant screen and you see these images projected, and you are so engrossed you forget that the car is actually moving until a black wall shows up and and you move into the next scene (that happened twice during the ride). "Hey, it's a movie of a rocket ship blasting into space. That is so cool! Now I see the moon, and now it's . . . Hey! That wall is blocking my view. Oh yeah, I forgot; I'm on a moving ride, but being in front of that giant movie screen made me forget that I was actually moving! I do hope that whenever Walt Disney builds up a new attraction they would incorporate that aspect so that feeling I felt when I rode Horizons can be duplicated. "If you what to dream about amusement parks, then I'm the one for the job." -
First, a quote from YoshiFan: That is actually how I felt about Six Flags America during the past years when that park started removing ride after ride and not bothering to replace them. I was so enraged by this ( "Six Flags America is being treated like the bastard son of the Six Flags family!") I decided to boycott all Six Flags parks. This year, with the opening of Thomas Town, I removed the ban and actually got a Six Flags America season pass. Second, my friend and I were there during their annual coaster celebration event and that was the last coaster we rode before leaving the park( "And I never thought it'd be the last time I'll be riding that coaster. sigh I guess I'd have to get my roller coaster knocks and bumps from another ride"). Should we both decide to return next year for another coaster celebration event, then I'm afraid I'll have to skip Chang. Why? you asked me. Simple! I'll reply. I cannot ride standup coasters because I find them too painful for me to ride on! I got no problems with Kingsta Ka, El Toro, Superman, and not even Rolling Thunder, but I cannot ride a standup. Finally, I need to go: I think my pillow is getting lonely. "You got that right, buster!"

Why is IOA's attendance so low?
palmerleeberry replied to ansley's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
As for me, it's has been over seven years since I've last visited Islands of Adventure, and I had two reasons I didn't return to the park: Because I don't go to Florida very often (in fact, I do plan on having my next vacation in Florida next year - 2011) and the fact that Islands of Adventure didn't offer any new rides nor experiences that was worth a repeat. I did enjoy the attractions they have, but if I ride too much of a good thing, then it stops being a good thing to me and I need a recovery period until I'm practically begging to return. Plus, I'm sure within those years, the park would add some things that would make me consider a return trip. And this year, changing the Lost Contient World to Harry Potter's world was just what I needed to consider that return trip scheduled for next year (not to mention that I've never rode the Mummy's Curse nor the Simpson's ride nor the Rockit Roller Coaster at Universal Studios and there are a few clubs and restaurants I would like to revisit on their Citywalk). In other words, both parks now offer rides and experiences I've never been on before and I'm begging for a return trip. But reading the other posts that list the negatives is causing me to have second thoughs. Fading rides, rude and uncaring park employees and some elements on certain rides not working properly? Do I really want to pay for a 4-Day Hopper Ticket if the parks are going to be subparred? But then again, my trip is still one year away and perhaps things could change for the better (this is me, the hopeless optimistic, speaking here) and everything would be rated a PERFECT A PLUS when I visit the parks. I sure hope so; I'm itching to drink a mug of that Butterbeer they sell in Harry Potter's World. "If you got dreams to dream, then I'm the thing you need to lay your head upon." -
Favorite Dark Ride
palmerleeberry replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
#1 - Favorite Dark Ride That has to be Spider-Man the ride at Islands of Adventure ('Nuff Said). #2 - Favorite Walk-throught It has be Noah's Ark at Kennywood. #3 - Should we even care about dark rides anymore? Of course we should care and there should be more dark rides. Regardless if it's a walk-thought, a ride through, an indoor flat ride, or an interactive dark ride, every park should have at least two or more of these rides. Take my homepark of Kings Dominion, for example, they have two dark rides: Treasure Cave (a walkthough, now sporting a pirate theme) and Blasters on Boo Hill (an interactive dark ride). Having an indoor ride can change a rider's experience. Take the classic Scrambler ride, for instance. Ride it outside and it's a regular scrambler ride. However, put the Scrambler inside and add music and lights, and that Scrambler ride offers a different experience for the rider. One more example, The Dark Knight at Six Flags Great Adventure. The coaster is a Wild Mouse, but adding a theme with scenery, sound, and different types of lights, and that ordinary Wild Mouse ride becomes something different. Plus, being indoors, you can ride it when there's bad weather outside. "And that's all I have to say on that; it's nap time. -
Holy Cats!!! First the park had troubles with rides being taken out, and now they are plague with rabid foxes? Well, my friend and I were there on Saturday and we had a great time. I'm glad I didn't see any foxes because I once got bitten by a rabid dog and those rabid shots aren't any fun. I did see the area in which the latest coaster will (hopefully) be built. It appears that the building (that stood next to the old Two-Face coaster) that housed some games has been closed and I think will be demolished so the whole area can be used for the next coaster. I finally got to visit Thomas Town and found out I can go on many of the rides they offer. And I believe that Six Flags America has the most train rides than any other park (with three train rides). The following is what I feel the park should do next. I feel that the Rock Wall that is located in Cyclone's old spot should be moved to Coyote Creek (where Tilt-a-Whirl once was, now converted into a smoking area) and have some new exciting flat ride in its place (such as a Frisbee or a Disc-O). Plus, I do know that the Tango ride (Rocking Tug) up in Six Flags Great Adventure is closed, so why not moved that ride to Six Flags America and put it near the Roar? And after seeing the condition and decay of the old Rainbow Falls, I hope the park would either tear it out or put something in its place. Well, those are my comments and thoughts. "Lay your head on me and I'll help you dream about amusement parks."

Hey Ya, I'm back with some more comments concerning the lastest pictures and post since my inital post a few days ago. 1) Thank you very much on that picture of the billboard that was announcing the newest shows. I'm stroked that they are bringing back the Extreme Wheels Stunt Show this year. I've got to see it last year and it totally MY AWAY!!! And this new show called "Rockband Live" sounds inviting (maybe they could use me as a vocalist?) But I won't be able to see Snoopy on Ice (I got to see a similar show up in Dorney Park called "Snoopy Rocks") because the date it begins will be the same date I'll be heading for home after two days up in Sandusky. 2) tanthonyam wrote: Here's my take: Shoot the Rapids is a much longer ride with two hills you go up and down, plus it has plenty of theming. Snake River Falls (to me) has a much taller hill, is a shorter ride, and will get you (and anyone else standing on that bridge) very wet! But since I haven't rode Shoot the Rapids yet, but many times on Snake River Falls ( tip -if you don't want your pants wet, don't sit up in the front) I cannot make the comparison until I rode them both. It could be that Cedar Point may wanted another wet-yourselves ride that will get you wetter like Snake River Falls, but without making a clone. 3) Philrad71 wrote: Hey, I'm all for that!!! 4) Sorry, I don't have a comment for number 4. Me so Well, that's all for now. "Are you done typing yet? I miss you in bed."

Here are a few comments and smilies about your report. "Hey, nice pictures of Cedar point. I was !!!" "What? You mean the lines for both the Gemini and the Corkscrew extended out into the midway? Didn't they bother opening the extra queings or were they all full too? "My humps, my humps, my roller coaster bumps. Millieum Force got me flying. Flying, flying, never dying." "Too bad Shoot the Rapids wasn't in operation. I bet those dang hillbillies that were still feuding over their moonshine caused the delays. One said the moonshine taste great while the other says that it's less filling!" "The spot where Demon Drop was looks like nothing was there at all. Makes one feels sad about the fraility of life and amusement rides" "But hey, that spot looks perfect to put a small family coaster in. Now that Six Flags Magic Mountain has tied Cedar Point for having the most coasters, I'm sure "America's Roller Coaster" wants to keep its record. "As for me, I plan to be at the park in June and spent a day and a half inside the park (that should give me plenty of time to do everything, well almost everything. I don't like to ride Mantis since it's a standup and I cannot ride Woodstock Express nor ride Gemini Jr; me and kiddie coasters do not agree). To me, Cedar Point is the Mecca of Amusement Parks and anyone who is a thrill seeker, rider or amusement park flyer should visit Cedar Point at least once their lifetime (and I've done that many times). "you've typed enough. Time to lie down on me."

Okay now, I was just viewing the many (some of them colorful) posts on this Six Flags America Thread when I saw this: FROM SCREAMSCAPE Last time I heard about another coaster being added to the park, I believe that it was to be a junior woodie (something like the Roller Ghoster at Kings Dominion). The old Two-Face ride may be gone, but the old station still stands, and I could see it as being the new station for Six Flags America's newest coaster (And why not, Six Flags Great Adventure did the same thing as the old station for Viper got reused for El Toro). But now I can see a spinning coaster would also work (Count me in as a favorable vote for a spinning coaster; no other park in the immediate area has a spinning coaster). Now as for my take on what the park should do with the old Rainbow Falls, here's my suggestion: why not take all four slides out and put in a bigger slide for a family raft slide ride? "That's enough typing for this thread, so why not lay your head down on me?"

Holiday World 5/1/10 PTR
palmerleeberry replied to angryemobeaver's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thanks for a great photo trip report you've done on Holiday World. I was there last year (yes, I agree Voyager is one awesome coaster, but I only rode it three times due to the massive crowds that day). Now I heard that Hoilday World is adding this eXtreme water ride called the Weiderbeast in which you go down and up and down many times (just like Schilliterbahn's "Master Blaster"). Too bad the water side of the park wasn't opened up for the season yet, or you probably would be sending us more than one picture of that ride and eXclaiming how awesome that ride is (I rode Master Blaster before and it's an awesome ride, so I can imagine that Weiderbeast would be awesome too). Still I envy the low lines you all encountered that day. On the day I went, they were crowds everywhere. I even envy that you got to ride Pilgrim's Plunge (that ride was not running when I went) Oh well, you pay your money and take your chances. "Why not lay your head on me? I bet you'll be dreaming that you are back at Holiday World in which eveything is running and no lines." -
Why Do I Get Sick On...
palmerleeberry replied to Canobie Coaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Okay, here's my theory: The movements of the swinging ship is just the same as you were riding a real ship on choppy water. The term for this type of sickness is called "Sea Sickness". When you are out at sea and you begin to get sea sick, the best thing to do is to sit down and turn your vision towards the distant horizon until the feeling is gone. Since you cannot do that on the swinging ship, my suggestion is to close your eyes and take normal breaths until the feeling goes away. But do not stop riding swinging ships. Just as sailors get used to being out at sea, you can also get used to the swinging ships if you ride them enough times. Just remember: whenever you begin to feel sick on any ride, just close your eyes and take normal breaths. "And whatever you do, DON'T THROW UP ON ME!!!" -
Best and Worst Log Flumes
palmerleeberry replied to gldude's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Okay, my favorite log flume is the Shenandoah Log Flume located in Kings Dominion, maybe it's because I rode it a thousand times and it has a great layout (short drop, twisting and turning thorugh the woods, and a great big drop in the end). As for the least favorite log flume; well, I don't like any log flume that has only one hill (the one in Busch Gardens Europe is the exception). To me, a great log flume has a short hill to start off with, a big hill to end the ride, and a long and interesting layout between the hills. New Ride for Camden Park, WV in 2010
palmerleeberry replied to John Peck's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Oh . . . Yeah . . . I was there last year and I must say that it's a great little park to visit if you got a few hours you want to kill. I definately love their little dipper coaster, loved it so much I rode it 5 times! But they had an old ride that was packed up, the Skydiver. Lakemont park has a ride like that, but I cannot get on it; the restraints they use is more like a medieval toture device due to my massive chest. But Camden Park was getting rid of it and they were planning to put something else in its place. I was hoping for another coaster because the area looked like it could hold either a boomerage or a wild mouse coaster. But instead, they get a Rocking Tub, an attraction I'm sure that will be fun for the whole family. But before I go, I must tell you about the other rides the park has. The Big Dipper may not be the tallest, longest, or fastest coaster, but it still is a fun ride. The log flume is decent (not to mention wettest), and I love their bumper cars. Yessireebob, anyone who is a thill-seeker, a rider, or an amusement park flyer should visit this little park, because this little park offers BIG thrills (and they aren't paying me to say this). "Are you finished typing this? Please come to bed; I'm waiting." -
Hm . . . $2.50 per ticket for a ride on the only wooden coaster of its type. I can see lots of possibilities. For one, the extra money will help maintain the coaster that is a sweet ride to go on. Two, now you don't need to purchase a POP ticket (okay, there are some people who only want one or two rides on Leap the Dips and wants to or cannot ride no other ride inside Lakemont Park. But I really can't see that, so please disregard number two because I'm getting too lazy to delete this). Three, I bet the lines for Leap the Dips will go down; there aren't that many "rich" riders and amusement park flyers willing to shell $2.50 a ticket, although I might pay for four tickets if I go there. Four, think about the lawn parties that come to your town and how much they would charge for a ride. $2.50 for a ride on Leap the Dips doesn't sound too bad, doesn't it? Five, I'm running out of reasons, so I think I better end this while I'm ahead. "And six, I'm a pillow to rest your head upon, and I'm sooo lonely."

That's true; I've been to Dorney Park last year during my amusement park tour in which I visited almost all the Cedar Fair parks and Dorney Park was the only park in that circuit that requires you to ride the Scrambler with a partner. I should add two more parks that has this rule: Indiana Beach in Monticello, Indiana and Family Kingdom in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Fortunately, I was able to find partners to ride with; in fact, there was a single rider right in front of me trying to get on the Scrambler in Dorney park. When he was told that he couldn't ride by himself, I got up and announced to the attendant that he could ride with me. So we both got on and rode the Scrambler. Here's another point to ponder: Is there a real advantage to having the "NO SINGLE RIDER" rule? In some cases, the rider's safety might be an issue. Another reason means the line for that ride will go quicker. "So what do all of you think?"

Knoebels Discussion Thread
palmerleeberry replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Many thanks on your photos concerning the upcoming Black Diamond ride to come out next season. As it is with all constructions early in this stage, it doesn't look like much and it doesn't look pretty. And that photo on the mining car: I'm sure those cars with get a fresh coat of paint and some seat belts added on. When it's all said and done, hopefully Knobels will be able to open up its Black Diamond attraction without any delays, not like that other attraction that rhymes with "Lying Turds", I mean, is that bobsled coaster ever going to be up and running? "z z z . . ." -
Last week, I went out to Six Flags America and decided to head on over to THE CYCLONE for two reasons: 1) It's my favorite ride, and (2) I heard that ride was moved into the old Octopus spot and wanted to see it for myself. Now when I got there, I was about to enter the line when I suddenly saw this sign that read: NO SINGLE RIDERS I was shocked. I mean, when did this park decided to make their "No Single Rider" rule on their Scrambler ride mandatory? I mean, in my past visits, I was able to ride THE CYCLONE by myself with no problems; today, I must partner up with somebody in order to get on. Why? Are they afraid I might fall off? However, this episode does have a happy ending. In the mid-afternoon, I was able to get on the ride and I rode it twice in a row: the first time with a mother and her son, and the second time with just the son as his mother stood by the exit. So this got me thinking: How many other parks out there has a scrambler ride you cannot ride by yourself on? And while we are on this topic, here's another point to ponder on: Do you agree or disagree on this rule? And here's a third: What other rides inside any other park requires you to have a partner to ride. I decided to go ahead and post this because I'm always a single rider whenever I visit a park and it feels like discrimination towards me. "Since I'm always at the end of all of palmerleeberry's posts, I might as well end this post by asking everyone out there 'So, what are your thoughts?'"

Okay, the Good News is that Ghost Town in the Sky will still be in operation this season. But the Bad News is that I have no plans of ever visiting that park since I felt the park BURNT me when I visited it in 2007. But if the park can get going again and introduce some cool ride(s) that will be a big draw for thrill-seekers, the riders, and the amusement park flyers, then I will reconsider and plan a visit. Otherwise . . . "You can always dream that this would work out in the end and I'll return.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
palmerleeberry replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
After seeing your photos on the construction of CEDAR POINT's newest ride: Shoot the Rapids, it got me soooo excited I nearly wet my pants. I can't wait to go up there and ride it, so that I really can get my pants wet (and I'm not talking about peeing either, so get those nasty thoughts outta yer head). "All righty then!" First, a BIG Thank You Very Much to BRAD for giving infomation on the rides I ask about. "I'm so glad the Santa Maria is still inside the park; I usually ride that ride three times in a row because there's hardly a line and they have lots of boats. Please help me out: WE NEED MORE PEOPLE TO RIDE THAT RIDE! Then I want to give another BIG Thank You Very Much to BJS1981for that very sexy picture of The Wheelie. Yes, that ride looks "Wheelie" good. And finally, one more Thank You Very Much to BRAD for dispelling any and all rumors that The Georgia Cyclone was flooded. Since that coaster and the Great American Scream Machine are reported to be in fine shape and still running, then I shall be down there this June to ride them. One last thing to mention before I get to the pillow: The Mindbender is my favorite ride in the park. That coaster is sooooo fun to ride on. "Until that time, you can always dream that you're back at Six Flags over Georgia. Just lay your head on me!" -
Okay, it's time for me to change the subject and tell you all how my trip to Six Flags America on Saturday, May 1, 2010 went. I went up there for the first time in three years to get a season pass (I'm going to need that pass when I visit three other Six Flags parks). First the good points- ( "Really, there were some good points?") 1) I like the new concept: the high five from the ride attendants. 2) The Wild One coaster still runs great. 3) The Cyclone looks good being placed in the old Octopus spot. 4) The Typhoon Sea Coaster, despite being open later in the day, has become a decent ride with the elements inside. 5) The Great Race is back to its normal glory with enough cars and allowing single drivers once again. 6) And for the first time in ages, you can now ride the Capitol Railroad (back then, it was only if you were part of a picnic group or during Fright Fest. And now, the bad points - ( "No surprises there!") 1) I can no longer ride the Superman ("Why did they have to shrink those seat belts. I mean, you gotta be a supermodel to be able to fit in those tight restraints!"). 2) I saw several rides break down ("No surprises there. Even if Six Flags America had a simple walk-through attraction, I bet even that attraction would break down), but after some time and a quick reboot, the rides were back in business. 3) No Single Riders for the Cyclone. ("What? No single riders for the Cyclone. Are they afraid I'll fall off?) Still, I did manage to ride that ride twice in a row with a partner or two. 4) And despite the good time I had at that park, I wish the park could add some more rides. ("I know they are still building the Thomas Train Area, but I'm not a kid.) Well, that's my report. I'm planning to return to that park with a friend using the "Bring a friend for free" coupon. "After a long post like that, you need me to rest upon."

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
palmerleeberry replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Okay, here's my take on the whole SoB issue: 1: Get rid of that coaster and sell it for firewood. 2: Build a new coaster, but not another woodie. Since KINGS DOMINION and CAROWINDS have this neat coaster called THE IMTIMIDATOR, why not KINGS'S ISLAND build its own version of the ride, regardless if it'll be another hyper, giga, or something else we've never seen before. 3: Then again, who said that this area should be home to a coaster at all? Since the area is large enough, perhaps it could be home to a big non-coaster ride or a few smaller rides. Well, that's my take on the whole issue. I do plan on returning to KINGS'S ISLAND this June and would love to get more rides on DIAMONDBACK, THE BEAST, and FIREHAWK, as well as see the new Planet Snoopy. "You typed enough, so lie your head on me for a while." -

Nice photos you have there on Six Flags over Georgia. I haven't been at that park in a long time, but plans to visit there in mid-June. Although you had many photos of the many coasters there, there were a few I didn't see. I read from earlier post that the Georgia cyclone is closed due to flooding. I didn't see any pictures of the Canyon Coaster (is that right? ) nor any of the Mine train coaster. And I know there won't be any pictures of Deja Vu cause that took out that problematic waste of steel out years ago (AND I NEVER GOT TO RIDE IT @#$%!!! ) What was missing (and maybe I'm the only one who cares about it) were the pictures of the other rides. I wonder if they still have the Santa Maria (flying boats ride)? "If you're dreaming of coaster goodness, then I'm the thing to lie your head on."
