  1. My answer: I don't know why they've closed Opryland and demolish nearly all the park for a mall. I mean it was a decent park, I went there in 1997 not knowing it was their last season EVER! But Opryland could have had better future if it was still open. I think Gaylord should have sold Opryland to Six Flags. Can you imagine if Opryland was still open and owned by Six Flags?
  2. Patriot at Martin's Fantasy Island is no longer open, they've closed it in 2009 Same with Nitro. By the way here's a picture of Crazy Bus from MFI taken last year
  3. I can't really decide on which of the two theme parks that are close to me is the "worst". Martin's Fantasy Island . Their water park lacks of slides, they only have three slides (four if you count Surf Hill, the kiddie slide), Raging Rapids and CannonBowl . The only "good" rides are Sliver Comet, Mega Disk'O, and Mind Warp . Mow the area aroun Silver comet . Make the park open seven days a week during the summer . Put a flat ride, food or gift stand in where Starship 2000 used to be . Add single rider tubes to CannonBowl Darien Lake . Some of the rides need repainting . The Giant Wheel needs lights . They need to pour concrete on Floodgate Falls so nobody would have look the rotting lazy river by 'Cuda Falls from atop the Giant Wheel again! . They need to sell the old Batman tracks for scrap . More groundskeeping like mowing grassy areas and pulling weeds and dead plants . Repaint the roof of the Adventure Isle boat . Put a roof over Raging Seas
  4. Darien Lake really needs some improvements like, getting rid of the Batman tracks (there's no point of setting up the coaster, it's just scrap metal!), putting lights on the Giant Wheel, and also removing the rusty pole in Fun Lake.
  5. Darien Lake: Darien Lake Fun Country -> Darien Lake -> Six Flags Darien Lake -> Darien Lake Theme Park Resort
  6. If Darien Lake were announce a new major ride for 2012. Here are my guesses, a custom layout Gerstlauer spinning coaster, a Wnidseeker, a Loop Fighter, or a drop tower.
  7. Here's mine from the Viper at Darien Lake back when Six flags owned it in 2000.
  8. Floodgate Falls is pretty much dead, it has been SNBOed since 2008 and the area around 'Cuda Falls has been kind of "ignored" by Darien Lake in the past decade, puting the newer water park attractions on the other side near Hook's Lagoon, and "downsizing" Barracuda Bay, removed some slides in the back in 1999 and replacing it with a Slingshot ride in 2002, and also removing the Cascade Canyon slides on the east side and replacing them with Shpiwreck Falls, but last year they've repainted the 'Cuda Falls slides and removed changing rooms in front of Floodgate Falls. Here's an outdated Bing aerial of Barracuda Bay
  9. Here's some picture of Devil's Hole and Mind Warp at Martin's Fantasy Island (they've closed Sizzler and Sea Ray) The new Devil's hole Gravitron
  10. Disccus about Martin's Fantasy Island amusement park here. Yesterday Martin's Fanatsy Island started thier 50th season, thier new rides "Mind Warp and "Devil's Hole would be opening next weekend. ADMIN EDIT: We are in the process of creating an official discussion thread for this park. Please allow us to assemble existing threads to form the new discussion thread. We'll let you know when the new thread is active.
  11. My first coaster EVER was the Rollo Coaster at Idlewild Park when I was 5 and my first one with inversion was the viper at Darien Lake when I was 11.
  12. Um didn't Six Flags: Discovery Kingdom rename (Tony Hawk's) Big Spin to "Pandemonium"?
  13. Raging Rapids needs to added to Martin's Fantasy Island Raging Rapids water slides @ Martin's Fantasy Island
  14. Here's another piece of Darien Lake memorabilia from 1988 back when Darien Lake only had one roller coaster, the current kiddie land was a mini golf course, the kiddie land on the map is now SplashTown, Barracuda Bay was still called "Rainbow Mountain", no Galaxy Theathre, the pools in the campgrounds are present on the map as well as the Mack Calypso ride Crazy Quilt, and 3D Cinema 2000, and also they had pinic areas for park guest and not just the corprate pinic area that they have now, there also a petting zoo on the map Darien Lake park map from 1988
  15. Mind Warp reminds me of a looping version of Nitro, the "new" Devil's Hole is a Wisdom Gravitron, and also another returning ride to Fantasy Island is the "Blue Goose" wich is kiddie ride.
  16. Here's the 2011 Martin's Fantasy Island map as you can they've got rid of two rides Sizzler (where Mind Warp is) and Sea Ray (where Devil's Hole is) and I can see one error they've made on the map; they mistakenly called Raging Rapids "Surf Hill" Raging Rapids are "adult" water slides while Surf Hill is the kiddie slide
  17. I think Martin's Fantasy Island in Grand Island, NY is the best "family" park they have a decent selection of rides for everyone including the one and only Sliver Comet roller coaster also they have a petting zoo, a train, ,a small water park area with a wave pool, a lazy river, a kiddie pool with a dinosaur slide in it, a ProSlide kiddie racing slide, a ProSlide CannonBowl, and two mat water slides, a mini golf course, and brand freaking new for 2011 a Loop Fighter ride called Mind Warp.
  18. Back in 1997 I rode Chaos at Opryland seven times.
  19. The Predator at Darien Lake sure it maybe a rough coaster, but I still like it! The Predator's "new" train
  20. Post you fantasy park here and here are some posting rules 1. You can only have three roller coasters existing or defunct (if using one from a real park please put the park's name in the brackets) 2. The park has to be located in one the lower 48 United States 3. You can only have five non roller coaster rides existing or defunct (if using one from a real park please put the park's name in the brackets) 4. You can have a theme for park, but please be specific about it* 5. You specify if you park is pay one price admission or pay per ride, if you choose the pay per ride option the prices must be between $1.00-$6.00 6. You can have water park attractions* *Opitional rule Here's an Example of my fantasy park Name: Empire Park Location: Albany, NY Ride Pricing: Pay one price Roller coasters Steel Pantom (Kennywood) Drachen Fire (Busch Gardens Williamsburg) Big Spin (Six Flags Fiesta Texas) Other Rides A Huss Ranger ride Thunder Rapids (Darien Lake) 'Cuda Falls (Darien Lake) Floodgate Falls (Darien Lake) A Zamperla Crazy Bus ride Giant Wheel (Darien Lake)
  21. Well, here's an alternate suggestion for Darien lake about Floodgate Falls, get rid of it and replace it with a patio deck with more sun loungers and umbrellas in Barracuda Bay the area around 'Cuda Falls doesn't have any and removing Floodgate Falls would free up some space in that area.
  22. Here's mine Viper (Darien Lake) Phantoms Revenge (Kennywood) Ride of Steel (Darien Lake) Silver Comet (Martin's Fantasy Island) Sky Rocket (Kennywood) The name of the park would be called Scream Gardens Thrill Park.
  23. Another Darien Lake brochure this time from 1982 Corkscrew(Knotts).nltrack The front with the Viper (I don't think I remember the Viper having arches on its double corkscrew) The middle part with the rides; Viper (again), Lasso, Thunder Rapids, the Beachcomber river boat, Ciema 2000 (where the Scrambler is now), Rainbow Mountain (replaced with 'Cuda Falls), and Floodgate Falls (they should reopen it) The second middle part with Brain Teaser (then known as Lady Bug), some trails, and a petting zoo The end with the Viper's logo and the only Huss Ranger ride that's still operating
  24. Here is the 1990 Darien Lake Brochure, look how times have changed Aqua.TD6 And here's the end of it with operating calender back when the park operated from late May to Labor Day in September also when Darien Center, NY was in the 716 area (it's now in the 585 are code) The front with then new The Predator The first middle part with Barracuda Bay back when it was upcharge and had more slides, now it just 'Cuda Falls (the water park is now called SplashTown) The second middle part with The Predator, Giant Wheel, and Viper The third middle part with Adventure Land (which is now SplashTown), The Predator (again) and Grizzly Run
  25. I would tear down the Motocoaster at Darien Lake and dig out the swimming pools make the pools an upcharge attraction! Besides I think the Motocoaster is nothing but a glorified kiddie coaster despite its minimum height requirement is 48 inches.
