  1. Goliath wasn't open in May. It opened June 19 to the public. I knew what you guys meant, though. Glad to hear it is running well, and I will get on it again soon.
  2. She has a pretty good bruise on her forehead too. Concussions are always serious injuries, if she did sustain one. I agree you always worry about people trying to cash in, but maybe it won't be so bad. The park and/or manufacturer is definitely at fault, because as you say, this should not happen. I am glad it was not much worse, because it could have been.
  3. It does stand alone as a thrill ride for sure, but the 60 mph launch, while still fast, does not make it overly intense for many younger riders, so that is why I still say it is a thrill ride the family (who are tall enough) can enjoy. I also think that is what HW was shooting for. I do not think "family thrill ride" has to be viewed with a negative connotation in all cases.
  4. ^^I think the OP made a valid point, as yes, some of those elements would be cool if possible on a flyer, but having both a wing coaster and a flyer at my home park, I would take the wing coaster any day, and there is no way this coaster is better as a flyer.
  5. Just as a reference, X-Flight here at SFGAm does not have the traditional B&M roar, but I always love it when their coasters do.
  6. Definitely returning to HW soon! Awesome addition, and I like the fact the launch is not a ridiculous speed, as it will be a good family thrill ride.
  7. Actually it begins at 8:15 PM THEIR time as Holiday World is in the central time zone as is much of southern Indiana. Don't mean to bust on ya HolidayWorldFTW, but the majority of Southern Indiana is in the eastern time zone. The central time zone only extends as far east as Perry County, and the only county north of Evansville that is included is Gibson County. Everything else south of I-70 is in the eastern time zone. I wish they would just make the whole state one time zone. The boundaries just seem so odd due to those exceptions you mention. When we went to HW a few years back, we stayed in one time zone but the park was in the other, even though they were both in southern Indiana. We were aware ahead of time so all was well, but it would just be easier to make it uniform in my mind. JMO
  8. ^^I agree that it is the economy more than anything. I think this thread is just sad, just ripping on SF and its parks.
  9. ^Iron Rattler and Goliath are also actually longer than Medusa.
  10. ^The park has clearly stated "tallest drop" in a lot of their literature, so while people keep trying to complain it is not the tallest wooden coaster, the park is well aware of that. I would rather have the tallest drop than the tallest structure any day. When they use the phrase "tallest, steepest, fastest," that's because it's purely a marketing phrase and is a nice, grammatically parallel structure. There is no way to add "drop" to that phrase and not make it sound awkward. Since it does have the tallest drop, why wouldn't they market that?
  11. ^The drop is bigger on Goliath than the other two. The other two just have taller structures, but shorter drops. Goliath is boasting the tallest drop as its record.
  12. I think we need to be very careful about trying to blame the parent in this case for not riding the coaster too, as that is akin to victim blaming. The only person to blame in this case is the sick man who did this. Some parents just do not like to ride rides, and that does not make the father responsible for what happened in any way, shape, or form.
  13. A ride operator joking about deaths on any coaster should be fired immediately. just my opinion What's even worse is, the one person who has died on RB was only a child (suffered from a congenital heart defect). We had a horribly annoying ride op on the carousel a few weeks back who would not shut up the entire time the ride was in motion. He would not even start the ride until the other op on the lower level said some stupid thing. I suppose he thought he was making it fun, trying to lead cheers and such, but it's the carousel, a nice, relaxing ride with my kids upon which I enjoy listening to the music. He was just yelling into his mic. I know I was not the only one annoyed, because at one point he said, "A girl just said I should be quiet," to which I yelled, from the lower level, "I agree with her!" He actually shut up briefly. There is a fine line between being fun and being obnoxious and over the line. I like some of the ops at the park who try to make a ride fun.
  14. ^Yep, 8 p.m. Mission Amusement, about Conneaut Lake Park, is on at 6 central tonight.
  15. ^Yes, there is, though he let us pick a line when I rode.
  16. Just depends if they check or not on the ride. Don't forget those height limits are set for safety reasons, even if .1 inches does not seem like much.
  17. Tuesday and Wednesday are usually the best days to go in my experience. Get there before the gates open and you'll get on Goliath easily, otherwise expect 2+ hour wait most of the day. The upshot is that you can cycle Bull a bunch early in the day. I too plan to be at the park on Wednesday. I haven't been in about 6 years. What's the early entry deal for gold pass members? Is there a special line? Thnx. The gold pass only gets you into Hurricane Harbor early, not the dry side of the park. There is no separate line for passholders to get into the park. There is a separate Discover Card member entrance if you have one.
  18. Just rode DB last week for the first time in 4 years and have no complaints about any roughness. Seemed very smooth to me.
  19. ^They just barely made it over with the additional thrust, and I hope they will not have issues with some riders not making it over.
  20. ^Empty, but weighted raft. Boy, that shot sure made it clear why they had to reprofile the second hill! Really interesting episode of Xtreme Waterparks tonight.
  21. Neat to see Elissa in episode 2!
  22. They actually have a strap/handle on the restraint for holding on to. I don't think that little thing is for the rider. Try holding on to it while riding... I held onto it the entire ride, and tightly!
