Six Flags America (SFA) Discussion Thread

That rumor has been thrown around before. Hopefully it is not true. The park has come a long way and it deserves more than that. -
Moreys Piers Discussion Thread
terdferg replied to LcHg5265's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hey all, I went to Morey's today and boy was it busy. I did not take any photos because it was really foggy, foggy to the point that photography was useless. I did however borrow my brothers iPhone and took a shot of The Great White in the fog. Anyways, I did not take any photos of them, but there are markings on surfside pier that seem to be in the same place the new coaster's path will follow (assumption based on the renderings released by Morey's). The new trains on the Nor'easter are worse than the old. With the old trains, I believed it to be one of the smoother SLCs out there. Not anymore, I felt like someone was punching me in the back. The Great White needs to be re-tracked throughout the entire ride, as it was pretty brutal. I finished the day off with a ride on Morey's boomerang, which was smooth as glass per usual. If anyone is heading to Morey's soon, be sure to look for the markings. They are on the way to "IT" if you are heading towards "IT" from the boardwalk. -

On a lighter note... I could not fall asleep last night so I took a look at some of the renderings/models of Morey's 2013 coaster, and tried my best to recreate it in no limits. I am not the best with trackwork, and since it was so late I skipped doing the custom supports that will be located under the lift and on the bridge between the piers. Its not great, but it's an idea of what it may look like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dAldnjL2k8 -

The parent's argument for seatbelts bothers me because a car moves at high speeds with other free-moving vehicles. It is not like there is another ferris wheel on a turntable next to this one. -

Wow. I am pretty bummed. It seems that I have good luck with SFA and always had a great visit. Skull mountain was always open for me. I loved the ride, and so did my friends who came with. I am sad to see it go, especially because there is a ton of open fields out by superman and batwing that new attractions could be put into. -

^Beats me. Thats what 6abc reported on the 11 o'clock news. I also just remembered the picture in my avatar was taken from the ferris wheel in question. -

The newest report claims she passed out while on the ride. Still does not explain how she fell out. If you pass out while sitting down like you are supposed to (and told to), there should be no problem. Inspectors were riding the "culprit" car on the wheel following the incident and nothing was to be found (so far). Still, a terrible accident for such a young person. Thoughts to her family and those who witnessed. -
^Rolling Thunder's problems cannot be solved by putting new trains on it. If you look at the track while riding, you can see sections that are crazy warped. It needs many things, with new trains being last. I went to the park last wednesday, and was surprised at the crowds. I went to GL first, and it broke down quite a few times. I have two problems with GL, and they both are with the queue set up and not the ride itself. 1) The reset horn is directly next to the line under the brake run. During the breakdowns, the horn blew in our ears twice, and it effin' hurt. 2) Lack of shade near the parking lot. Come on, seriously? And what happened to the shade that used to be over toro's line? please SFGADV, more shade! I was surprised at how efficient Ka's new loading system worked. The line was constantly moving. However, the ride feels like it is going to tear itself apart. Same with toro. I rode in the stride train, and it felt like there was a wobbly wheel (like on a shopping cart) under my seet. not rough, just really, really strange feeling. Bizzaro was also riding rough that day. I could tell going up the lift that it was going to be pretty rough as i felt like there was a flat spot on the wheels. Got knocked in the head a few times, but still fun, just not up to par with how it usually rides. I still believe that Runaway Mine Train in the back and front seats is fantastic. That one hill before the like basically forces me to almost stand up.

Agreed. On my first and only trip to the point, I was very nervous getting on mantis after hearing about how rough it was. Well, it felt like every other beemer to me. My ride on mean streak was the roughest ride on any coaster i have been on. I remember hitting what felt like a large pot hole prior to lift which hurt, and it was then i realized what i was in store for.

Six Flags America (SFA) Discussion Thread

GADV is about 45 minutes away from me, yet i still travel to SFA quite a few times a season. Why? because i have an all around better time at SFA. for one, waterpark is connected to the amusement side. also, SFA actually has non-coaster rides. To me, the only rides that stand out at GADV that bring me back are toro, bizzarro, and GASM (RIP). Batwing absolutely pwns superman, while im not a huge fan of Superman ROS, i feel it is superior to nyquill, wild one is absolutely amazing, and jinx is super fun and re-rideable. is the park lacking? IMO, the only thing SFA is lacking as of this past season is some sort of theme/scenery in the back section of the park. operations and staff friendliness were pretty solid this season as well. -

they would be better off donating the ride to a park in return for free season passes at said park. it seems like they plan on operating the ride by itself much like the coney island cyclone, which doesn't seem like it would be feasable to do in a market already saturated with parks relatively nearby (kennywood, CP, KI) -

^agreed. wild one is the smoothest non-plug and play woodie i have been on. its up top on my list of wood currently as well. -
you would be surprised. the quality of the ground water in the majority of new jersey is very, very good. except for the area around the meadowlands and pompton lakes, and toms river, water in the aquifer (especially south jersey) is contaminant free. the bottled water is probobly just tap from an industrial city elsewhere. MOD EDIT by larrygator: I have never had a good glass of tap water in New Jersey, and I've been pretty much all over the state (Newark, Trenton, Sparta, Jersey City, Hoboken, Parsippany, Hackensack, Edison, Lakewood, Howell, Atlantic City, Wildwood, Ocean City, Seaside, Belmar, Breille, Keansburg, Atlantic Highlands, Hazlet, Perth Amboy, Woodbridge, Cherry Hill, All the Brunswicks, Old Bridge, Wall Township, Brick, Manahawkin, LBI, Tuckerton, Tinton Falls, Mantoloking, Lavalette, Morristown, GGalssboro, Hoptacong, Somerset, Matawan, Waretown, Point Pleasant, Asbury Park, Brigantine, Long Branch, Cape May), no good water.

^the unbearable thing wasn't so much the rattling. it was more so that the positioning of my legs due to the way the restraints force you to sit caused my thigh to cramp up. i rode it twice and this happened both times. i suppose i also just do not care for the ride because i feel that there is no reason for it to rattle so much other than crappy maintenance. people complain that kingda ka vibrates, but ka is much smoother than supes and goes much faster.(just comparing the two since they are both intamins) i also saw a kid stand up on the drop on shipwreck falls or whatever the flume is. some of the clientele the park attracts is absurd. -
^actually it has been running better imo. i have been to the park a handful of times this season, and ka has always been up and running. i do not remember seeing it down at all in my five visits. 4 times it was running all four trains which it hasn't done in a while, and once it was running 3 trains.

PHOTO TR: Six Flags Over Mid America

nice TR. Your friend is right about East St Louis. It often tops the list of the most dangerous cities in the country, either before or behind the city of Camden, NJ which is close to me. The park looks nice, and being a premiere fanboy, i would love to get down there and ride Freeze. -

well, everything was a walk on. stayed in the waterpark for most of the afternoon which was fun. staff was really friendly and seemed to be having fun with their job, same on the dry side. had a blast, but some of the rides need an overhaul. superman was almost unbearable. having those restraints rattle against your shins was ridiculous. the train rattled so bad, it was rougher than wild one. Also, WTF is that intense side to side shuffling at the top of superman's first airtime hill? Is the track not welded correctly or something? it shuffled so badly i thought it was about to throw a wheel or stall, and it was just at the exact top of the first hill, nowhere else. jokers is starting to get pretty rough, especially going into the cobra roll. finally rode wild one again for the first time in 4 years and it is still easily the best coaster in the park. Batwing is getting shaky, but it is not rough at all, i dont know why people complain about the vekoma flyers, i love everything about them more-so than the beemers. IMO it blows the superman flyers out of the water. The hangtime at the top of the loop is just awesome. -

quick question. I am heading to the park tomorrow, how are the lines for the dry rides and for the waterpark on weekdays? i know each day is different, but im seeking a general idea from people who frequent SFA. -
i agree there is not much to complain about GADV, but this is the GADV discussion thread correct? comparing elitch gardens to GADV is just dumb. When people complain about GADV, they compare it to Cedar Point or other parks that are of similar size and attendance figures. And when these comparisons are made, Great Adventures weakness is obvious, lack of flats (and water rides imo)
