  1. Oh yeah. That guy. LMAO. Kinda like the guy who used to be ACE's preservation director and refused to go to Cedar Fair parks because Geauga closed even after Kinzel and all his main guys left.
  2. Said it before, will say it again: Profit = Revenue - Expenses. Expenses are more than just labor and utilities costs for Conneaut. In fact, most of it is compounding interest in debt. If the debt is wiped clean by a bankruptcy judge, they have a shot at sustainability. If not, they aren't. Their operating profit is probably without considerations to debt service.
  3. Who said anything about not enjoying both parks? I'm just exceedingly happy that I can because this one wasn't gutted. Go back to page 228 of this very thread if you want to see just what kind of park the best case scenario for Kentucky Kingdom had in store with the Kochs in control. Actually some of the comments are uproariously funny given how things turned out.
  4. I remain utterly convinced that the Koch family had no interest in actually doing anything with the park, but wanted to delay it's reopening and thus siphoning guests from Holiday World, as long as possible. Their actions alone on that have really made me disinterested in ever visiting their park. They had come right out and said "Steel coasters? Yuck!" once, yet when Kingdom starts getting praise they go out and build Thunderbird. In fairness, Will Koch was dead when the whole Bluegrass Boardwalk thing happened, and the rest of his family exiled to suburban Birmingham, AL when Thunderbird opened. It seems clear to me though that he was the most important gear in the motor and when he was lost, everything just spun wildly and went nowhere.
  5. Yeah, same here. I always say that if you build enough of any type of ride, people will start to complain about the similarities. That's even true for RMC and their desire to knock things out of the park almost every time. Build 50 of them, and people will begin to reassess how special they are.
  6. First off: Let's all take a deep breath and thank god that Holiday World and the Koch family never got their hands on this park to tear it to bits. Bluegrass Boardwalk, even if it was a commercial success, would have been disastrous for us, the Kentucky Fair Board, and the people of Louisville. "What the market bears" can be empty words spoken by people trying to validate that they had not failed themselves, but that they had been failed by others, and the argument that the dry park had to go for a water park only facility in Louisville because of the market demands is just that sort of thing. Having said that: KK has the best combo of midsize steel coasters in existence now. The question of "Is Storm Chaser a lower end RMC?" - I've been on 4, it's #3 for me, close to Goliath at #4. There are 3919 presently operating permanent steel roller coasters in the world. That doesn't include portable rides, which probably brings it closer to 4500 globally. If you have to be in the top 5-10 of those in the world to be called "great", then I consider the threshold too high. There's way more than 6 great steel coasters in the world, and honestly I'd probably come into conflict by announcing that some which are argued to be (ahemiSpeedahem) aren't even close to that standard. I think Storm Chaser is pretty close to great or outright there. And that's at a park that already had the best "minihyper" built.
  7. First, thanks for the kudos. If people can use what I offer and it makes their lives better in some way, that's a pretty damn fine award. That's what I really hope to accomplish here more than anything. Second: Ohio is the start of the midwest. Yes, there are hills there. There's hills in southern Indiana, the upper peninsula of Michigan and many other places throughout the "midwest". The only people confused about it are probably those who have been told otherwise by individuals trying to will it into part of the East Coast. It is not. Culturally it is worth noting that Buffalo has a lot more to compare with Cleveland than Albany, which is probably in part why those living upstate and in NYC as so quick to dismiss it.
  8. eats: Pronto Pups (above avg corn dogs) and the tacos. Obviously the tacos must rides: pretty much everything that's running, honestly. Go to Lost Coaster first if they manage to have it up and running early on. Then mosey over to Den of Lost Thieves and Tig'rr. They're the lowest capacity things.
  9. People here, myself included, have traveled the world to go on rides for children. Fundamentally, theme park nerds can't say a damn thing.
  10. Everyone should just stay home and wait to die rather than participate in any sort of outdoor "seeking" activity like Pokemon Go or geocaching.
  11. I'm disappointed that no one has made the "Well folks, the good news is that this Lightning Rod is open all night long" joke yet.
  12. As your update (and as I predicted): Supernova is listed for Wisconsin State Fair's SpinCity. http://wistatefair.com/fair/spincity/ I feel bad for people who try hard and aren't able to make something happen despite best efforts. I don't feel bad for crooks.
  13. Flip it. Waldameer can get really busy on Saturdays and the parking situation there is suboptimal. Do them first, then Conneaut. There will not be crowds at Conneaut. I guarantee you of this. Also there's only two rides even worth your consideration there, whereas there are several (coasters, dark ride, walkthrough, skyride, log flume, drop tower, some of the flats) at Waldameer.
  14. Cycling the ride under normal conditions is more likely to generate worthwhile data than sitting prone and running the occasional test train. I get people's frustrations and demands for more/better information. I personally wonder if this will push Herschend to go more "orthodox" with their ride buying strategies moving forwards.
  15. To me, it sounds as if the biggest issue was the decision of who to source the LIM launch from.
  16. There's a season pass one (PASS) but then you must display said pass at check in.
  17. Riverview Park in Chicago had one (zepher?).
  18. Restarted after recession. The rotation works by moving rides after a few years, so it isn't constant. But even now St Louis lost a flat to La Ronde for this season.
  19. A large flat ride like Delirium would be considered large. Renovating an area of the park would be considered large. If they hype it up enough, anything can be considered a large project. From my memory, Kings Dominion was getting excited for what would become a Planet Snoopy expansion. *ahem* The World's Largest PEANUTS-themed Children's Area .
  20. A) Possibly B) Doesn't mean it is a new ride even if it is. They've done work on existing and even antique rides (like the Kennywood Autorace).
  21. It's been a confirmed in-house project since the park opened for the season. Seriously.... can this rumor die already? Actually no, it hasn't confirmed to be in-house. The hints that RMC themselves dropped was clear as day pointing at Hurler. And it's not just KD fanboys saying this. Even Cedar Point fanboys acknowledged that it's happening to KD's Hurler. It only makes sense with Hurler being closed this long. http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=28853&start=31800 https://m.facebook.com/IrvineOndreyEngineering/photos/a.475305665826794.115576.474347982589229/1200454699978550/?type=3&theater Here: . Confirms that the park is working on it. One problem: that was months ago. This thing from IOE was just yesterday. Unless they say otherwise, all signs point to Hurler getting external treatment. And they reminded everyone today that they do things other than PLCs for coasters. Back story folks: Anne and Brian are not spring chickens to the hobby. Brian is from Pittsburgh, Anne from Michigan and a Cedar Point regular growing up. They've been on these intarweb forums for roughly 20 years and none of this would be considered secrets. Based on the clues given it is probably A) a Cedar Point ride B) not Mean Streak. That's a wide list of potential attractions. It could be Dragster or Maverick given that both have control systems which have been rumored to not work as well with full train capacity than with 4-5. It could be the skyride. It could be a more antiquated ride like Magnum or Gemini. It could be Windseeker (which some control changes could be significant to). Calm. Down.
  22. It is an American brand with some international presence and recognition and thus more valuable than unbranded Randopark #10000. Also even if we think they suck more often than not, they have experience running theme parks and can be used to assist in many aspects of that in the role of consultants. Seriously though, "The brand isn't that great here!" doesn't matter. Buick obtained huge sales in China in spite of nearly being axed in the United States because *reasons*.
  23. Awhile ago, I'd have argued that Holiday World was by far the better park, but I'm strangely moving towards KK. No doubt that HW's scenery and topography is more interesting, but Kentucky Kingdom has some solid landscaping generally looks quite crisp in addition to having a more well rounded dry ride selection. Put in a log flume and dark ride at KK and they're in really really good shape. Biggest difference is operations, but even then I've had some less than sterling moments at Holiday World throughout the years.
  24. Push the rudder left to get it to steer upwards away from the center of the ride. Push/pull the rudder right to send it back towards the center of the ride. The biggest thing to me is that some people think you have to go with full steering input. If you're good at it, you'll realize that isn't the best way.
  25. Just do it, breh. At least it's a Vekoma Roller Skater and not some tiny 400 ft long kiddie coaster from a carnival.
