If you invested in SIX and FUN in late 2009 or early 2010 after the bottom of the financial markets were established, you would have done yourself a huge favor . Stocks well below 10 doars a share have seen prices in the 60 range, the 5 year graphs are a solid 45 degree angle up from left to right. In Fact, if had made a basket of theme park stocks including Comcast, Disney, Village Roadshow and even Merlin You would have had an outstanding mini fund based on theme parks. This link kinda reminds me of half the Motley Fool articles I read in that it's half nonsense. Adding coaster s and coaster alone isn't the answer and selling the Busch Gardens properties is foolish as well. In fact, they could use a new a Busch Gardens or two. Now, a merger of Herschend and SEAS that included all parks would make sense but I doubt Herschend has the capital to buy SEAS and take them private. Herchend has shown zero interest in going public. SeaWorld would have to do the buying. They seem to be shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic trying to deal with the huge sum of debt the company is saddled with from the Blackstone acquisition. Interestingly, they have a market in which they basically have carte blanche but have chosen for whatever reason to not attempt to extensively build that into more of a destination. I assume that's related to the costs involved in such a program, but I'm still left a bit baffled right now based on their current performance and focuses.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Ripcord needs to be inside the park, and the STR spot is that of least resistance. I'm not entirely fond of the idea because I don't how it fits in well with the Frontier Trail, but until the Dinosaurs Alive contract ends and frees up that space, I just can't think of anywhere better. -

LOL why wouldn't you anyways? the last thing I did around coaster enthusiasts I was drunk as hell and informed I smelled strongly of alcohol. I retorted that the park sold me it and that I wasn't driving, so no f's given. -

Well, I've been going to Cedar Point multiple times a year, every year since the 90's, and have been riding MF with regularity since its opening month of operation. I may not have worked at the park, but that has nothing to do with knowing what I have experienced on a coaster. Sure, there is no airtime on MF like Maverick, or Magnum. However, the airtime on the hump by the queue and station is definitely much more than simple floater airtime, like you experience on the previous MF hills. It's stronger than you experience on most B&M coasters. In the back, where I typically ride the coaster, I'm ejected out of my seat with force, every time I ride it. It is not the same airtime as the firm airtime that you glide (or float, if you will) into over the previous hills on the coaster. Clearly, where the disagreement stems from, is differing ideas of what constitutes ejector airtime. If you want to say that you've never considered any of the airtime on MF to be ejector, based on your definition of what is needed to constitute that to you, that's fine. But you can't state so definitively something that is clearly not an absolute, that applies to every rider. If we reframe "ejector air" to "airtime you really feel!" then 99% of coasters have ejector. MF could likely be ridden in any seat with no lapbars or seat belts and all the riders come back to the station assuming they're willing to not misbehave and hold the grab bar in front. -

Since they're still primarily tickets over wristbands, the lines should be OK IMO. Discount books of tickets can be bought at Weis Supermarkets. There's one in Danville on the way to Knoebels from I-80 that everyone goes to and you can get $20 books for $16. -

Yeah Phoenix is the only standup coaster I actually enjoy. That return run of bunny hills might be my favorite thing on any coaster ever. I see DirkFunk's point though even though I don't entirely agree with it. Phoenix does provide a different type of airtime than say El Toro or Maverick does. More coasters would have airtime like it if the whole of the theme park world hadn't gone to ratcheting bars from the old single positions and put trims all over the goddamn place. Thunderhawk at Dorney used to be so good even with the trim at the end on. We can dump on Skyliner but man, that first turnaround in the front 3 rows is ridiculous. And actually, once upon a time, parks used to basically encourage the coaster nerd manchildren (myself included) to not even bother putting the bars down during ERTs. I get why that's all changed and will never come back, but when you know what it used to be and lived it, you can't go pretending it never happened. I'd hand over a chunk of change to get in that time machine for a day and go get back to two click prime era CCI ERT sessions. But, alas.... -
Six Flags America (SFA) Discussion Thread
DirkFunk replied to Mind Eraser's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, I don't want to get it twisted like "Six Flags America is actually good" because it is so, so not good. Six Flags doesn't invest in basic infrastructure like Cedar Fair has been, and even if it did, there's this perception strike about who goes to SFA which will probably justify not making basic improvements to the park. -

I don't even think of Phoenix as ejector air. Airtime that's way over -0.1 is ejector in my book, so basically RMCs, some Intamin rides, and some old time outliers that have generally been changed or torn apart (Tx/Coney/Riverside/GA Cyclones, Cyclops at Mt O, Colossus at SFMM in the first year or two, Montana Rusa at La Fiera supposedly pre-mid 90s revamp). -

I know that but I was trying to say that if they don't want to be around black people and latinos they should go somewhere where they aren't. Muskegon ain't that place either. LOL. No Prince George County, but not Salt Lake City/Couer D'Alene. -

Goliath at SFOG has stronger airtime than MF. It isn't even close for me. Heck, MF if you ride it when cold can sometimes have practically none over the two hills entering/exiting the island. Goliath? Goliath is *strong* always. -
Six Flags 2017 New Ride Predictions

Building a bunch of short production model coasters is fine but not going to change the relationship of hobbyists to the chain. The litany of other issues doesn't go away. -

4Ds at SFOT, Mexico, and New England. Flat rides from SFGAm to SFA, replaced by Larson Loop at SFGAm. Water park expansion at SFFT. Georgia, Great Adventure, and Magic Mountain with Justice League rides. St. Louis, Great Escape, La Ronde, and Discovery Kingdom with flat rides. Some are much better guesses than others. -

Here's the deal: for people in the region, complaints about the clientele consistently come up and have been coming up for as long as I've been connected to the rest of the hobby or people living in the DC/Baltimore area. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that these complaints are really down-low racism, but confronting that fact doesn't change the reality that there's a lot of people there with a lot of alternate options who are basically afraid of a theme park with a greater than 15% African American or Hispanic customer base. Six Flags can do two things then: -Shrug, put lots of money into infrastructure that was ignored during the initial flagging process from Adventure World to Six Flags America -Do bare minimum to keep numbers where they are in a highly competitive market place The current management has never chosen for #1 for any park, so it shouldn't surprise you they've gone with #2. That park needs to spend millions on things like plumbing before they spend it on rides. -

I go to Cedar Point multiple times a year every year since 2007. I've worked at the park prior to that and been riding MF with regularity since 2001. There has never been nor will be ejector airtime on Millennium Force. The closest to it is the final small hill by the station. That doesn't mean there isn't airtime. In fact, I'd controversially state that I prefer the non-ejector air of Millennium Force and the unchanged train/belt combo that exists there to the present day ejector airtime of any of the Superman rides at DL, SFA, or SFNE with the new U-Bar/ankle restraint combos. -

I am interested in this new gate and why you think it is needed. Who will use it other than the cabin and RV folks? A gate would require at minimum 3 staff entrance, exit and ticketing and sometimes security. That is a lot of staff for relatively few guests. As a replacement for the current entrance, I definitely see the possibility. If/when Breakers sees an expansion (like on top of the current mini golf area), I don't think having those additional people, Lighthouse Point, Sandcastle, and the Campers all go to Beach entrance as being a viable solution. -
I'd get it if it weren't for the fact that if you wait an hour for each ride, how many rides can you actually do during one day, and if it weren't for the fact that all the parks where it bothers are parks that have cattlepen queues with no theming. And besides, an hour long conversation is a *looong* conversation. The point being that it kind of breaks the immersion. (but most places where this is a problem don't have immersion in the first place, sooo) So for everyone out there, not just my man Rill over here - when you talk about immersion, do you ever actually think "Wow, I'm in a gem mine with the Seven Dwarves"? Like does that ever happen for real?
