Very good, that's all I needed to see....thank you very much. Btw, are you the guy that was on one of those coaster shows when TTD opened riding it with safety goggles? Or was it KK? That guy's name was Steve and was just wondering if it was the same person. -
Placing Fanboy/Schwarzkopf Junkie hat on first... There is only one real difference between Montezooma's Revenge and Tidal Wave: The propulsion unit. Monte is the 'new' generation flywheel design, the Tidal wave, as was the prototype at KD (King Kobra) were the original weight-drop models. RCDB lists multiple lengths of track, but this is not necessarily correct: Schwarzkopf.coaster.net, which is the encyclopedia of Schwarzkopf coasters, lists lengths as nearly identical- at 722 feet. However, it can be safely assumed that tracks may have been modified in park- but only to the tower ends. The base launch structures remained the same for all models. Changing one from flywheel to weight-drop would be irrelevant, but one could replace (in theory- but NOT going to happen here!) Tidal wave with Monte. But I think the odds on that are like having a dual eclipse tommorow night here in AZ. THe difference comes if your raise up one model over the other- It's an optical illusion that Monte looks different- as it's got so much more stuff going on around it to make it look like a different length. Schwarzkopf only did one variant on his shuttle loops- and that was the rather infamous WienerLooping shuttle loop- which in itself is actually a variant of the Katapult series of flywheel/power axle design systems. R.D. "Schwarzkopf forever" Sussmann Thank you for clearing that up. I wasn't sure but I thought I read somewhere there was a difference in track length. I always liked the weight drop version more, don't know why really, maybe because of how the train was katapulted, very neat rides....both of them. I never take off my fanboy Schwarzkopf hat....never! Speaking of which, doesn't his son run the company now and if so, have they built any new coasters?

You say the same thing everytime and yet, the answer to everything you say is NO! Knott's isn't going to give up one of their oldest rides that's running great to us! No way! THey aren't getting a giga coaster, they aren't ripping out half of their coaster collection. Most of all, they aren't bringing Tidal Wave back! I'm more happy to copy this post everytime you say this as it does nothing to help this thread whatsoever! Oh, and have I mentioned that none of what you said is going to happen? Thank you ABW.... I was thinking the same thing!!! Look greatamerica1990sfan, as wonderful as your incredible plans sound, they just are not going to happen so before you start reorganizing the park for the future you should focus on right now whether or not it will still be there in the first place. THEN we can talk about wishes for future rides. And for the LAST AND FINAL TIME (as much as I would like to see it happen) TIDAL WAVE IS NEVER-EVER-EVER-EVER-NEVER-FOR-NEVER-EVER COMING BACK.........NEVER! First of all, the ride has been scrapped and used for spare parts for at least one other shuttle loop, so you should be happy that it at least is being used to keep the another one running. Second, out of all the things the park could do, out of all the things the park needs to do, that is beyond last on their list. Lastly, they are certainly not going to remove MR from Knott's to put it in here, it's not even the same kind of shuttle loop and because of that I believe the track length/footer are not exactly the same. We all share your concearn and enthusiam for this park and wish it nothing but the best but you need to remember before any of the things that you, I, or anybody else wish to happen can happen the park needs to stay open.

Pearlite.... Ledeburite.... Hmm... This pic only seems to be showing 3 colored characters now in this order... yellow 2 yellow V blue m I thought the last time I looked at it there were several other characters and more colors. Now it's just these three in yellow and blue. -

Dinosaurs Alive, on MF Island (Probably using the same paths as Terror Island) and retiring Paddlewheel so they can leave the bridge? I REALLY hope not! This is unfortunately correct. Terror Island will also be retired for the time being. That is, unless something changes. HOWEVER! Apparently Kings Island is making a FORTUNE off of the Dinosaur exhibit, which is why Cedar Fair is so interested in installing them in more parks. Seems as if we'll have to wait until at least 2013 for a new coaster at Cedar Point. I just have a question about all this. How do I (we) know whether any of what you are saying is true or just wild speculation....or even BS? -

Hmm, XL=extra large=really big coaster? Yup could totally be a clue! -
That is a very good point. Most people won't give it a second thought but if you go into it thinking negatively about the guards without really knowing what its like until you ride then you pretty much ruined the experience for yourself already and that's what you will focus on, the guards, not the amazing ride experience this can deliver. It would be sad to let something silly like this take away from having a great ride. Why can't people just ignore stuff like that? Pick....pick....pick! I could understand if they delivered pain, then you could not ignore it. But they don't, they are just another part of the ride vehicle that, unless you allow it, will not affect the quality of the ride. If you don't allow something like that to bother you then there is nothing stopping a great experience from happening. Btw, the transformation of that area looks amazing!

Shoot The Rapids is, at its heart, a log flume. A log flume in which the boats want to sink themselves and which opened months late and still has issues running consistently compared to other, older, less advanced rides in its class. I don't know if it is necessarily a "mechanical nightmare" in the same way that, I dunno, Spellbreaker or The Bat or something that failed and got removed very quickly was, but you certainly can't call it an unquestioned success or state that it was just Intamin pushing the limits with a wild prototype. I should note too that on top of having an embarassingly late opening and having the rather chronic "boats not emptying as fast as they should" issue that will probably plague it until it ends up replaced, Shoot The Rapids has another problem - it isn't even that good a ride within its class. There are multiple trailered log flumes travelling Europe that are better than it in every respect in spite of all the millions put into its development and construction. Bad is unforgivable. I see, thanks for the info. XYZ, I just noticed your signature pic, beautiful shot of that coaster! -

I love it when the phrase "mechanical nightmare" gets used. Sometimes it seems like people just like to say that without really knowing all the details of the specific ride. To what end EXACTLY is STR a "mechanical nightmare"? And I also have to say, boo-hoo too bad, no new coaster since Maverick. Somehow I just don't feel bad at all for you since my home park hasn't gotten one for over 10 years and they keep removing good coasters! And besides ALL of that, since it is still way early and anything said for new attractions as of now really is just rumors as there is no official announcement yet, I would hold onto my getting upset about it until this has been confirmed. I mean really, it's only June. -
I think the issue with Demon is not so much the trains but more the track, specifically, its very old/possibly worn and it probably has settled some. The transitions between the loops and the straight section before the tunnel seem to be the bad spots. And yes, its and old Arrow so what can you do about it.
-
ABW, The track from the trim brakes to the lift has a downward slope except for the transfer track, which is level and the reason for that is you have to push the trains on and off the track by hand so the track has to be level as there are no drive tires or anything to move the train, it must be done by hand. So, if train #1 is in the station that block is occupied which means train #2 would stop just behind it and occupy that block which means train #3 would be stopped before the transfer track so that when it is released from the brakes, it will have enough momentum to roll through the transfer track area and make it to the station. It was actually kind of fun doing it too, I kind of miss that. If you look in the bottom middle of the picture, you can see both Logger's and Clipper's layouts as well as where Yankee Clipper's station was....this is from greatamericaparks.com
-
That is correct, that is where the Yankee Clipper station was is it was sort of a mirror image of the Logger's Run and the drop on Yankee Clipper was unique in that it went straight down, as opposed to Logger's double dip, with a little jump at the bottom after the drop eneded. The neat thing about Demon for us ride ops was on Saturday when the park opened, we sometimes would start with two trains (but usually all three). Then as the day got busier, usually around noon, WE plus a supervisor, were actually the ones that would add the third train, it was awesome. I always thaough it was kind of funny how when all thre trains would stack, the last train would be stopped partly on the turn before the transfer track, it had to stop it there as if it stopped on the level transfer track we would have to go push it into the station! Ahh good times!

Wasn't that George Lucas that he cut in front of to get on that ride? That is true about the Barney Oldfield Speedway. When I worked there in '89 it was so busy on the weekends we used both the inside and outside tracks and the line would extend up and down the stairs, we also used all three trains on Demon.
