Underrated Coasters?
coasterdude2011 replied to Yero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I just said it in my review of Cedar Point, but Mantis. I don't have any head banging on the ride and is very smooth. It tears through the first half of the course and is very forceful. A must ride at Cedar Point now. -

I don't think I could get a picture of the ride because of Cedar Fair's policy of no cameras on ride... -.- But the last room before the break run where you are apparently back in Alaska, and there are rock structures? Whatever they are there is a domo in the middle of the scene and its the best part of the ride, I always scream DOMO!! at the top of my lungs. -

Was just at the park today for a great day at the park. It was very hot though with temperatures hitting the mid 90's in August, which is a rarity in late August in Ohio. My biggest complaint about the park is the food: 1. It's way too expensive, $3.51 for a gatorade today which thankfully was good for refilling with water later in the day, 2. Instead of taking another order after one has been taken, they have to complete that order before taking the next, which makes food lines incredibly long even on small days. I ran into many guests who waited 10min just to get a little shot glass of water, this was most evident at The Dragon's Inn and El Gato Cafe. Got in all the coasters besides the kiddie ones, with Maverick being the longest at 45min. And here are coaster reviews : Blue Streak : For being the oldest coaster in the park it delivers a great ride. Front seat on this baby is smooth and delivers on the air time, one of the best kept secrets of the park. It's a must ride in the front seat, besides that it's your average wooden coaster, little bumpy but still nice. Mean Streak : This is another fun front seat ride, but front seat only. Living so close to the park all I hear from people in the area is how horrible the ride is when really the front seat is quite enjoyable with some nice lateral G forces. The wait for the front is worth it, anything else... yea, don't bother. P.S : In the Mean Streak "junkyard" the Big Dipper trains from Geauga Lake are being stored and a few Double Loop cars. Cedar Creek Mine Ride : I personally do not like this coaster at all, no leg room, horrible transitions, and just lingers around the course. Worst coaster at the park. Maverick : Amazing ride, would be even better with the I305 straps. Would rank alot higher for me if I wasn't getting karate chopped in the neck for half the ride. Still a must ride regardless. Gemini : Fun, smooth and easily reridable ride throughout the whole day with some very nice airtime in the back seat. Magnum XL 200 : Favorite ride at the park hands down. Amazing airtime the entire ride with a fairly smooth ride. Ejector seat truly lives to it's name. Corkscrew : Yup... self explanatory, some head banging but a good first looping coaster for any kid. Top Thrill Dragster : I like the ride but will not wait more than 45min for it, it's just way too quick. Don't get me wrong its the biggest adrenaline rush you could want and is a great ride. The ride did break down for 15min while waiting for it, it was opening and closing throughout the day. Wicked Twister : Rode in the middle, enjoyable ride. Hardly has a line which is a good thing now. Disaster Transport : A typical "meh" ride not good or bad.... UNTIL THE DOMO AT THE END OF THE RIDE!!! Raptor : Very fun and intense ride, it would be so much better without the head banging at the cobra roll. The back seat is great, especially the airtime you get right before the final corkscrew and helix. Iron Dragon : Typical family ride that is executed much better than CCMR. The mist at the ending helix was very appreciated. Wildcat : Always has a wait, no matter how dead the park is this ride always has an annoying wait. Nothing wrong with the ride but it's not worth the wait it usually has. Mantis : Most improved ride of the year since they took that trim break off. This ride was flying today and is incredibly forceful. My friend blacked out for the entire first half of the ride and is easily one of the best rides at the park now. Hardly any head banging and I do not understand how this ride is so poorly rated. Millennium Force : The ride is pure bliss. I agree/disagree on the forceless nickname. There are many heavy positive G's on the first drop and turnaround, but I would like more airtime on the hills. that's what they are there for. There is airtime, but there should be so much more. I realize this post is really long, but this is my first full review, and after going to the park a good 25 times this summer, my thoughts haven't changed on any of the rides. -

Yes... the announcement was cookies, there was a little parade that came up towards the present with peanuts characters and there was a podium set up for the VP of Cedar Point to speak, they spoke opened the box and gave out cookies... I couldn't believe it, well anyways the parks was fun today, ride ops were friendly, lines were ok, and did the scavenger hunt they had set up at the park... which was a little difficult but fun, still can't get over the present was cookies however. -
Rob I completely understand what you're saying, but I just think the park is doomed no matter what I've seen that happen with Geauga Lake and the water park still isn't doing that well, that might be because no major additions have been added, for the park to even have a shot big new water rides and slides will have to be added or it'll go under again. I'd say convert the back area to complete water park but keep the front half of the park an amusement park but make it pay per ride with a pay full price option.

Yup... really severe weather Left the park around 8 and was racing the storm home, apparently the extra ride night still happened for Maverick and Shoot The Rapids, I don't know how they could do that seeing how it's still raining in the area. -

I've never gotten soaked on STR, with Thunder Canyon and Snake River Falls you get soaked and your soaked for liked 2hrs, STR can soak you but I'm usually dry within 30min if I'm riding in the front seat or 15 if I'm towards the back, a Waveswinger or Skyhawk ride always helps but I think it was a solid addition to the park, the wait has gone up dramatically since it opened to around 45min-1hr everytime i check besides night rides. Its a fun ride to ride at night, and everyone who I've gone on with enjoys it, and the down time might not be fixed by the end of they year but nowadays how many rides open flawlessly their opening season. I still think its a great addition and I don't understand the hatred for the ride? Its a water ride you get wet, deal. -

If it were up to me I wouldn't sell the ride but put it where Demon Drop was, its a great looking ride and it sure beats just an empty grass field right there, it would look great and the ride is saved -

http://www.italintl.com/detail_page.php?record_id=1392 Not sure if anyone knew, but Ocean Motion is for sale, along with Chaos still, this pretty much confirms something is going there, sad though, I loved those two flat rides That section of the park just seems dead now -

Anyone at the park lately notice a major clearing by Mantis's staircase up to the station and by Iron Dragon, it just happened in the past week and its very strange, any one know why? -
Hershey vs. Knoebels
coasterdude2011 replied to Big-M's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've been to both parks and HIGHLY recommend Knoebels, I am more of a "the more coasters the better" type of guy but Knoebels stole my heart Hershey is a more uniques park but very corporate, you'll get the smaller coasters with short waits but rides like Fahrenheit and Stormrunner will have pretty lengthy waits. The food there is very expensive and to be honest isn't that great, its typical amusement park food. I will say they have very good rides but it feels like your ordinary amusement park, just with different coasters. Knoebels on the other hand is just an amazing experience, Phoenix is my favorite coaster because the airtime on it is unmatched and twister is a such an intense ride. Rides are very short and no more then a 15min wait for the coasters and they're easily reridable, especially Phoenix. The flat rides are all great and have long cycles and great programs, employees are very personal and look happy and making rides more fun. The food is amazing and is very affordable for an amusement park, very diverse also. The one thing though about Knoebels is first impression the park is very bad, grass parking lot and gravel pathways, give the park an hour or two and you'll love it. Also its worth it alone for the variety of rides like haunted mansion Truly the most unique and tied with Cedar Point for the best park that I've been to. My Ruling : Knoebels In A Heartbeat -
Best and Worst Arrow Mine Trains
coasterdude2011 replied to bgwfreak777's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Really? I went on it last week and I still think it's the smoothest ride in the park along with Millennium Force, well besides the back seat though, that one can jolt you around, but yea Gemini has always been the butter smooth one for me. Cedar Creek Mine Ride has it's jolts unforunately, if you sit in the front seat it can really throw you around, it's a nice ride to go on there since it never has a line, but sit in the middle then it's kind of enjoyable -
Well you can't though, Cedar Fair tried to put in the GCI there but it's not a good business decision because of the 49er's trying to take over the park, you can't invest huge projects into a park that might shut down any year, once the park becomes more stable they'll do fine, but until then there will be no new coasters or major attractions because its too much of a risk. Stealth also did not get removed under Cedar Fair, that was all Paramount, so in theory the park has been abandoned but not just because for bigger parks, because of the situation. Michigan's Adventure is also a tiny park, their SLC actually fits in fine there and a B&M or Intamin is just too big of a project there, they have grown at the rate where they should, some new rides here or there and a new coaster that'll be a crowd pleaser, until there attendance goes up, Michigan's Adventure also will not see major new rides.

Has anyone ridden Mantis lately? For the past week (I've gone three times ) they have been running it without the trim brake on the first drop and I personally LOVE the ride now, does anyone know why this is? -

I don't think Cedar Point will add a Dive Machine anytime soon, Dive Machines claim to fame is their first drop, just like Maverick's drop. What is the point of adding a coaster that goes vertical when you already have one that goes beyond vertical. In the next couple years I can see one of three things happening, either a renovation to Mean Streak like Texas Giant or a new GCI woodie, a new B&M flyer because it's one of the few concept coasters the park doesn't have, or a new Intamin prototype ride with some new bizarre claim to fame. Chances are an Intamin is likely because essentially Intamin and Cedar Point are in bed together and it doesn't look like they're coming out of it anytime soon. Seeing how any major addition in the past 10 years with the exception of Skyhawk and MaXair have been Intamin, and Intamin doesn't specialize in large scale flat rides like Skyhawk and MaXair so Cedar Point had to turn elsewhere. -
Cedar Point Opening Day 2010
coasterdude2011 replied to slither37's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I was at the park yesterday from platinum pass opening to closing and I thought it was actually a really succesful day for the park. Almost all the rides were running after noon I'm pretty sure except for Cedar Creek Mine Ride which for some reason did not open til 5 and Maverick which was up and down about every 2hrs. Waits were very long but I got all of the coasters in besides Top Thrill Dragster and Maverick. Shoot the Rapids looks beautiful and so does Snake River Falls with its new paint job. Only cons I have is that the food service was horrible, I apparently was being a "tassle" when I asked for no tomato on my taco. Mean Streak actually ran really well yesterday too. First time in years where I got off the ride and was actually smiling. Finally, ride crews were great, the Millenium Force crew let the last train of the night (which happened to be me and my friends) go another cycle, so overall it was a very good day. -

Robb I completely, especially when Intamin creates some of the greatest rides on the planet. I am fully aware of the "Intamin curse" but frankly it doesn't bother me at all. I go to Cedar Point daily during the summer and was a little 3 years ago after hearing Maverick's delay, but it was worth it in the end because the ride is amazing, just how Shoot the Rapids will be. Would you rather have a delayed ride, or a ride that will get a bad reputation because it might injure guests and break down? -

Well, I was at the park today getting my season pass processed, and avoiding severe thunderstorms in the area, while I was driving along and saw these little beauties. http://hphotos-sjc1.fbcdn.net/hs397.snc3/24139_396767409984_736634984_3881516_7766153_n.jpg http://hphotos-snc3.fbcdn.net/hs397.snc3/24139_396767464984_736634984_3881517_1132905_n.jpg Sorry about the poor quality, I only had my DSi to take pictures with but seeing these made me even move excited for opening day. I'm a little confused with Diamondback at 4 and Behemoth completely dropping out, but I love the fact that intamins take up nearly half of it, and could not agree more with Ravine Flyer being where its at. The poll looks very good. -

Sorry about resurrecting a dead thread but are there any new details about the ride? I personally think they're withholding the name because they are waiting to brand the park with Six Flags. I can easily see an Aquaman themed coaster here and are just waiting for the deal to be made. I have also read online that the park has been trying to brand the park since early of this year, and why not open a new roller coaster with the new branding.
