  1. According to the Friday estimation, The Dark Knight is a sure-win in its second weekend. With an estimated $25 million yesterday, the movie is right now heading for a $70m + second weekend, which is of course, one of the best second weekend ever. Based on how the movie runs, the movie has a strong chance to surpass $400m mark and even pass Shrek 2's total cume for no.3 domestic all-time. Complete analysis: http://news.fantasymoguls.com/originalcontent/2008/07/dark-knight-wit.html
  2. All right so here's the result: I think Kung Fu Panda wins... in box office run. We see that finally WALL-E's box office is slowing down quickly just after 4 weeks. This weekend, WALL-E won't even be able to gain more than $10 million. Perhaps $5-6 million. While at the same weekend Kung Fu Panda still able to gain $7 million-ish. In UK, one of the biggest markets in the world, WALL-E opened to only $8.8 million. Compared to Kung Fu Panda's $12 million 2 weeks ago... that's like... 75% of it. But whether the hold will be better or not we'll never know. But this weekend, The Dark Knight, which already sets box office record in USA and Australia, opened in UK. Oh well... get ready for a huge drop, WALL-E. But yeah, basically, WALL-E still has France, Germany, Spain and other big markets. Most importantly... JAPAN! Yep, believe it or not, WALL-E will be released in Japan in December, 6 months after it's released in USA. It will compete with Half-Blood Prince there in the same period of time. Right now the worldwide cume for WALL-E is around $230 million while Kung Fu Panda is at $470 million. But how about the... awards? Yes, I think this is the side that WALL-E will win at. There has been buzz all around that WALL-E might get a nomination for Best Picture next year, along with The Dark Knight. This is - if true - of course a huge achievement for Pixar because there has been only one animated movie that is nominated for Best Picture, Beauty and the Beast (1991). Still, it's all up to you which side do you fall for. I think it's just gonna be like last year's Ratatouille Vs. Shrek the Third.
  3. Months of hype, and then even more hype when Heath Ledger died after finishing his job as 'Joker' in The Dark Knight A great news for all those Batman fans... The Dark Knight already broke the midnight record with $18.5 million, and that doesn't even include the 3 a.m. show. Even more, Warner Bros. reported that the movie's official opening day also broke the domestic record. It knocked Spider-Man 3's record with about $60 million. That's GIGANTIC! $60 million in a day. That's like Kung Fu Panda's take in 3 days. The movie is expected to have about $160 million on its first weekend. Even better news, the movie is also expected to have great hold because of its rave reviews. It even have a chance to become one of the highest-grossing movie not only in domestic box office but also in the worldwide box office. I expect the movie to finish around $1 billion in its worldwide box office. What do you think? http://uk.reuters.com/article/filmNews/idUKN1735020820080719 http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/b146932_dark_knight_rises_will_spider-man_3_fall.html http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/article/numbers_show_dark_knight_will_smash_several_box_office_records http://www.variety.com/VR1117989204.html
  4. This weekend, Hellboy 2 took the top spot with an estimated $36 million which is about 50% better than its predecessor. The second spot was really close. Hancock held extremely well with $33. Its cume is right now at a gigantic $165 million. Followed by its huge performance overseas, the movie has a chance to become the biggest summer blockbuster (after Indiana Jones). Meanwhile, the new family film Journey to the Center of the Earth took the third spot with an estimated $20.6 million. But expect it to fall next weekend as 57% of the tickets were shown in 3-D. The weekend saw another huge fall for the Disney-Pixar feature WALL-E. This weekend it took $18.5 million, which is in position number 4. Although the cume is right now ahead of Kung Fu Panda, Ratatouille and Cars, many suggest that it won't meet the Pixar's success standard. Expect it to finish at around $220 million - $230 million. The only thing that can change this prediction is if the movie performed strongly on its weekdays . But since The Dark Knight is opening on Friday (and it's reported that the movie should take about $130 million), WALL-E mightn't be able to have long-leg run like last year's Ratatouille. I even began to ask myself whether it will pass $200 million or not. But even worse... With these drops every weekend, can WALL-E surpass Kung Fu Panda's cume? Last week, WALL-E is like $10 million ahead of Kung Fu Panda. BUt right now it's only $6.5 million. Uh-oh, poor WALL-E... WALL-E will open in UK this weekend (July 18). Anyone from UK wants to report how big is the anticipation there? http://www.boxofficemojo.com/showdowns/chart/?view=daily&id=junecgvs.htm http://www.boxofficeguru.com/weekend.htm
  5. After a terrifying drop on Friday WALL-E recovered quickly. With $9.3 million on Friday, the movie had a 50% bump on Saturday for an estimated $14 million, but then another steep 'drop' of 28% to a projected $10.1 million. This brings WALL-E a $33.4 million second weekend, which is a 47% fall from last weekend. The drop is by far the biggest drop of any Pixar's movies. The main cause, of course, as we all know it, is that because the July 4th fell on Friday. WALL-E will recover very soon in its midweek sales. So far, it has taken $128.1 million in 10 days, which is the third-best for Pixar animation. This weekend's crown goes to Hancock. Just like WALL-E the movie had a disappointing take on Friday, but recover quickly through the weekend. The final tally is $66 million for the 3-day weekend and a total of $107.3 million for the 5-and-a-half opening. But given the fact that usually a movie that has 'extended' opening drops fast, Hancock might not be Will Smith's signature. It's projected that Hancock will finish below $250 million. Kung Fu Panda still had its run in the theatre. It grossed another $7.1 million. The movie has broken so many records for an animation title in Asian markets, which include Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and South Korea. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/ http://www.boxofficeguru.com/weekend.htm Meanwhile, in the foreign box office, the crown went to Hancock as well. The movie topped UK with $19.3 million, which was 70% bigger than Kung Fu Panda, $12.4 million in Germany, $8.5 million in South Korea, $7.3 million in Australia and $5.5 million in China. Also counted as impressive is $3.4 million in Brazil and $3.1 million in Taiwan. While it had broken records in Asia, Kung Fu Panda proved to be 'another' animation in European markets. In UK, its head-to-head fight with Hancock only managed $10.7 million and in Germany, it was only $3.6 million. In foreign markets, WALL-E grossed $13 million, a 400% climb from last weekend. The movie topped Mexico with $5.3 million and then a no.2 opening (after Wanted's second weekend) with $5 million. While the openings aren't as big as Kung Fu Panda's in the same markets, both openings are the highest for Disney-Pixar features. So yes, it's very... satisfying. The world is right now waiting for the new musical, Mamma Mia. The movie launched in only one market, but it broke the record as the best 2008 opening with $1.6 million. In UK, it broke a record as well. It grossed $240,000 only at just one screen in Odeon Leicester Square. http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117988530.html?categoryid=13&cs=1
  6. People chose to stay out of the theatres as the 4th of July fell on Friday. As a huge public holiday event and celebration, families will choose to go watching fireworks, going to theme parks, beaches and also having BBQ with other people. This is proven by the huge Friday-to-Friday fall of WALL-E. The movie only managed to take an estimated $9.2 million o the day. But it's expected to do much better on Saturday and a smaller decline on Sunday. But still... comparing with the other Pixar movie (even Ratatouille and Cars, yes), the drop is... MONSTROUS! I really hope this movie will recover next week. Wanted also lost its audience during the 4th of July. After a huge debut last weekend, it suffered even bigger drop than WALL-E. Its Friday-to-Friday drop was a gigantic 72%. By earning only about $5.4 million, the well-reviewed movie seemed to have a steeped drop than anyone had expected. But just like WALL-E, it's expected to perform better on Saturday and Sunday. Hancock proves to be a less-than-expected hit this weekend. Many predicted it will take more than $120 million in its first 5-and-a-half opening. But right now the prediction is down to $90 million-$100 million. After taking $42 million, the movie only managed $18.8 million on the Independence Day. And it was in its first weekend! Compared to Transformers last year, Hancock is very 'small'. Still, if everything goes well, the movie might surpass $100 million by Monday morning. Kung Fu Panda still had its muscle on the Friday, earning $2.1 million, which wasa 40% fall from last Friday. The movie is currently in the same pace as Car's. So perhaps $225 million-$240 million is where this movie should finish. http://news.fantasymoguls.com/originalcontent/2008/07/early-wednesday.html http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=daily&id=kungfupanda.htm
  7. ^^^ You're not a sucker! Somehow at the last bit of Ratatouille, when Anton Ego reads his review of the restaurant, I almost cried. Wow, that's even weirder, right?
  8. First of all I want to say 'Happy Independence Day' for USA. Hope all of you who live there have a great time celebrating the event. Now back to the box office report this weekend... Yesterday, WALL-E managed to beat the preview screening of Hancock. WALL-E received $7.6 million while the Will Smith's superhero movie took $6.8 million. This figure tells WALL-E will be a charming performer this weekend as more children are out and WALL-E is the only family movie that stands out. About today, Hancock wins the crown with less-than-expected $17.2 million. Last year, Transformers took a gigantic $27 million after its preview night. Comparing the two, Hancock will be kind of... disappointing in its performance. Reviews haven't been so good as well for the movies but hey! It's all about Will Smith and when he stars in a movie, there's no doubt the movie will be successful anyway! WALL-E took another $6.7 million on the same day. Absolutely far less than Hancock's, just like Ratatouille vs. Tranformers last year. But if the audience like what they see in the movie, WALL-E will have a huge number of audience on 4th of July, which also happens to be Friday. This 4th July weekend will be a huge box office for the movie industry. Meanwhile, Wanted performed well for another $3.6 million on Wednesday. For an R-rated movie, it already satisfies so many teenagers and older audience so big drop might be expected this weekend. Going to the foreign box office, Kung Fu Panda is taking the Asian box office crown of the year. In Singapore, the movie grossed more than $4.1 million, making it the no.1 movie of the year. The same thing happened South Korea and Russia, where the movie grossed more than $20 million in each territory. It also controlled Phillippines as it became the no.1 animated movie of all time. The movie is currently opening in number in Australia. It's released in Germany, UK and Brazil this weekend. Fact of the day: Hancock had to be edited twice to earn a PG-13 rating.
  9. After taking a monstrous Friday, WALL-E finished at the top position with an estimated $62.5 million. The opening weekend in considered as huge for an animated feature. But looking at the pattern of the result, WALL-E is different compared to the other Disney-Pixar's features. After taking more than $23 million on Friday alone, the movie was down to $22 million on Saturday and then a big drop on Sunday to $17 million. I seriously have never seen this pattern in Disney-Pixar's. Don't you think there's supposed to be a bump on Saturday where kids and parents enjoy the weekend the most? But anyway, given the fact that WALL-E is 'unusual' for its 'no-dialogue' feature, WALL-E has done a great job. And since the July 4th weekend is coming, WALL-E will continue to dazzle. Taking the per-screen-average crown is the R-rated Wanted. The movie beat the expectation with more than $51 million. Its per-screen-average was $400 more than what WALL-E have earned that weekend. The next weekend, Wanted will have a huge competition against Will Smith's Hancock. Meanwhile, at the overseas box office, Wanted took the crown at number one, grossing a robust $33 million from 22 markets. This includes a huge debut in UK with $8 million, which was head-to-head with The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. In Russia, the movie opened to a record-breaking $11 million given the fact that the director, Timur Bekmambetov, is a Russian and as we all know... he's extremely popular for his Nightwatch and Daywatch. WALL-E also opened impressively in 6 small markets. Brazil led with $1.6 million while Chile and Colombia gave $525,000 and $498,000 respectively. The movie will hit UK in mid-July, Mexico and Russia next weekend. So what do you think? http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117988285.html?categoryid=13&cs=1
  10. The early opening day result is IN! As we all expected, WALL-E proves to be a huge hit. Early estimation says that the movie took about $23 million on Friday alone (include the midnight screening). The opening day is not only Disney-Pixar's biggest but also the third best opening day for an animated feature after Shrek 3 ($38.4 million) and The Simpsons Movie ($30.8 million). With the result, the opening weekend is expected to be about $66 million and perhaps even $70-million range. Also, word-of-mouth might even increase the income of the movie on Saturday. Not only that, most children are having their summer vacation right now so WALL-E will be a huge performer of the summer. Wanted also performs very well on its opening day. With $18.5 million, the R-rated movie will be one of the biggest R-rated action movies. Whether the movie will hold well or not, we don't know it yet. But usually, action flick has a larger drop as people rush to see it as soon as it opens, unlike family films. http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/article/wall_e_eyeing_third_best_pixar_opening_while_wanted_surprises
  11. This weekend, the most anticipated animated feature of the year is released. WALL-E is a sure champion this weekend as its R-rated competitor, Wanted will take the runner-up position. Both movies are received well by the critics, but the competition won't be very huge as both have their own target audience. Families will flock to the lovely robot movie, while the older ones will go to the star-powered ultra-violent action. WALL-E is right now stated as the '9th wonder' of Pixar. And there's no more doubt to that statement. The movie, until this post is written' has received an almost universal acclaim from the critics. With an overall score of 98% (in Rotten Tomatoes), and 100% from the 'Top Critics', WALL-E will sure win both heart and money this weekend. Some critics even say it's the best Pixar's feature and can be nominated for 'Best Picture' in the next year's Oscar. Also, WALL-E has become a popular character this summer even before the season began. And with the promo saying it's the movie that came from a legendary lunch in 1994, WALL-E has a chance to regain Pixar's popularity in 2003, where Finding Nemo became the world's biggest animated feature (until Shrek 2 stole the record). Wanted is also generally acclaimed by the critics. With score of 73% (Rotten Tomatoes), it's an above-average R-rated movies. Word of mouth might affect the performance. Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy and Morgan Freeman also help this movie make a further success as they're very well-known actors and actresses not only domestically, but also around the world. Also this weekend, there's no R-rated movies so those who like to see 'slasher' and action movies will flock to this one as well. Generally, these two movies will make a great 'bump' of box office compared to the last year's performance at the same frame. Not only that, these two movies are critically-acclaimed so it's possible that these 2 movies will have great hold throughout the summer. So what do you guys think?
  12. I'm sorry about my mistake. However, the 130 minutes duration is true. El Capitan Theatre will specially show a live stage show called "Flights of Fantasy" before the movie begins in each screening. The movie will be shown for public for the first time at some theatres in USA this Friday at 12.01 A.M. Meanwhile, it seems 6 new exclusive clips are out now in YouTube. From all of these clips, I can tell WALL-E will be exciting and hilarious! http://www.youtube.com/user/dean2pl
  13. California Screamin' for 12 times with single rider pass and then Tower of Terror 7 times, in which 4 of them were 'Fastpass'.
  14. It's in third weekend, but Kung Fu Panda continued to steal the attention. It even topped the last weekend's champion, The Incredible Hulk. Kung Fu scored $21.7 million while Hulk scored $21.5 million. Knowing how popular Kung Fu Panda is, WALL-E will sure be a sure risky job. If people like it, they'll forget the Jack Black's animation. If they don't like it, they'll stick to Panda instead. Meanwhile, I received a rumor that the duration for WALL-E is about 130 minutes. Anyone knows more about this?
  15. In its second weekend, Kung Fu Panda is doing very well. With only 43% drop, it's expected the film will top $200-million mark easily. The film also runs very well overseas. Small drops were reported in most markets. But the 'stand-outs' were Russia and South Korea, where it topped The Incredible Hulk in both markets. Meanwhile, WALL-E will have its world premiere this weekend at Greek Theatre in Griffith Park. Expect to see some reviews about it by the end of June 21. Now, how much do you think is the opening weekend for this film? I expect it to be in $70 - $80 million range since the character itself has gained attention already.
  16. I have a big news again for you. A new 3-minute clip from the movie was aired last night in ABC during the Finding Nemo show. The clip really shows how stunning is the visual of the movie. I'm also amazed by how the characters are speaking, much better than I expected. It might not be funny, but I think the love story can be seen very clearly in the clip. Note: It may contains spoiler, perhaps. http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/06/08/watch-a-scene-from-pixars-wall-e/
  17. Kung Fu Panda proved to be a popular movie this weekend. After earning a monstrous $20.3 million on Friday, the movie earned another $22.5 million on Saturday before dropped to $17.2 million on Sunday (projection). Totaled, the movie earned $60 million during the weekend. Good words from the critics and perhaps word-of-mouth may bring Kung Fu Panda as one of the biggest hit of this season. Yes, it outperformed Ratatouille last year. But it's understandable because Ratatouille was a tough sell before people began to spread the word-of-mouth. Second place goes to You Don't Mess with the Zohan. The PG-13 comedy has another audience target, thus Kung Fu Panda didn't affect the performance of the movie that much. With a $40 million opening, it's sure a big opening for a comedy, although may not be as successful in its foreign box office like the past Adam Sandler's movies. Indiana Jones 4 once again prove that it will have long run in the theater with having another standard drop to $22.8 million. Nostalgic parents are sure still flocking to the theaters to see this movie. Meanwhile, Sex and the City dropped a huge 62.6% to $21.3 million after its surprising opening last week. Fans must have rushed to see this in the opening weekend and then that's it. Looking at the performance, the movie should top about $150m-$170m area. Last week's surprise performer, The Strangers had a standard drop for a R-rated horror movie. Dropping to $9.3 million, the low-budgeted movie proved to be a profitable feature for the company. Iron Man on the other hand, had a smaller drop and so far the best performer of the summer. With $7.5 million on its fifth weekend, Iron Man may top $300 million by the end of this month. However, things don't go well to The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. After a weak debut and huge drops, the movie dropped a further 56.5% to $5.5 million. Disney has said earlier that it was their fault to have the wrong release date, saying the season is "too competitive". What's more, a lot of people complained about the promotion that focuses too much on the Prince Caspian and not the Pevensies, leaving the people suggest that the movie is a 'small' fantasy movie and isn't a sequel of Narnia one two and a half years ago. Narnia is so far a disappointment in USA, but it will sure bring lots of coins in its foreign run. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/
  18. Kung Fu Panda 9/10 I have no idea what's in my mind right now, but I'm sure having a great time watching Kung Fu Panda. It's funny, the image is beautiful and the story is just so cool. I think it's gonna be nominated for Oscar next year and will be a main competitor of WALL-E. Well, I still hope Pixar's WALL-E lives up to everyone's expectation. I hope i can do my first standing ovation for WALL-E, perhaps?? Meanwhile, Kung Fu Panda is doing very well in its opening day. On Friday, the movie managed to make an impressive $17.75 million. Many believe this will lead to about $55 million opening weekend since the students are out now and sure the kids will beg their parents to watch this one. Long-legged run is also expected. All infos are taken from http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/article/kung_fu_panda_opens_with_impressive_1775_million_friday_estimate
  19. Kung Fu Panda has its final rating of 84% from Rotten Tomatoes with the Top Critics' score of 75%. That's a very good score for a Dreamworks' standard.
  20. For all of those who support WALL-E, I have 2 great news for you. First, it's not one, but two early reviews from the screening of WALL-E. And as we all expected, PIXAR has done another excellent job once again as its latest movie received rave reviews. One of them call the movie as "honestly funny, moving and exciting". While another mention about how amazing the visual of the movie is. For complete report, please go to http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/06/03/early-buzz-wall-e-gets-rave-reviews/ Second, WALL-E promotion doesn't stop right now. Disney released its newest trailer for the movie less than 24 hours ago. Here's a link to the trailer. http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/06/03/new-wall-e-trailer-with-live-action-humans/ Please tell me what do you think about these things! Thank you!
  21. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian 9/10 Absolutely fantastic. Although the story isn't as good as the first one, the battle scenes is much more magical and the whole thing is just more... exciting. No more innocence like the first movie. It's all about justice, fight and belief. Sex and the City: The Movie 8/10 I must say I'm quite pleased with the movie. I laughed so many times when watching it. The sexual humor is just hilarious and some parts are touching as well. It's satisfying, especially for the fans of the series. Although I'm quite disappointed by the fact that Singapore censorship cuts so many scenes in the movie, it's still very good.
  22. Currently, the movie is received extremely well by the movie critics. It even stands at an astonishing 92% in Rotten Tomatoes! http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/kung_fu_panda/ I think this will make it even a tougher fight!!
  23. So here I am back with the box office prediction of WALL-E! So the creator is Andrew Stanton. And as we know from the first teaser last year, he made all of these animations from a lunch in 1994. All of those films became a success and really bring Pixar into the top of animation industry. Now for the box office opening weekend... Toy Story -- $29,140,617 with total of $191,796,233 (1995) A Bug's Life -- $33,258,052 with total of $162,798,565 (1998) Toy Story 2 -- $57,388,839 with total of $245,852,179 (1999) Monsters Inc. -- $62,577,067 with total of $255,873,250 (2001) Finding Nemo -- $70,251,710 with total of $339,714,978 (2003) All information is taken from www.boxofficemojo.com As we all know, all of the movies above have Andrew Stanton and John Lasseter in the production staff. From the figure, we can see that the opening weekend for each movie is increasing while the final gross is also going up very well as well. If this figure also goes to WALL-E, I expect WALL-E to have... Opening weekend -- $76,414,141 Final gross -- Between $280,000,000 to $350,000,000 Still we don't know yet. WALL-E's lack of dialogue may upset some people. Yet, "It's all not about what they say, it's all about what they do,".
  24. Dreamworks and Pixar seem to be in a huge rivalry again this summer with each releasing their own feature. Kung Fu Panda is the latest production from Dreamworks. With its star-power which includes Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan and Lucy Liu, there's no more doubt that this movie will be another victory for DreamWorks. Critics have been nice to this one so far, claiming it as an entertaining piece that includes a lot of action scenes. WALL-E, on the other hand, is a risky business made by PIXAR. While the trailer shows how the plot will be interesting and the visual is fantastic, the lack of dialogue will sure make some people avoid the movie. Yet, usually Pixar's animation are welcomed very positively by the critics. Plus, good word-of-mouth often supports the company's film. Do these also go to the WALL-E? I personally think WALL-E will win in the end. Good word-of-mouth, unique plot and much more. It seems like PIXAR is becoming more and more creative each year creating a new original and fresh ideas for their animation. And I think, WALL-E is a sure winner for the nomination of "Best Sound Mixing" and "Best Sound Editing" next year. Well, hope so... Now, which one do you think will win the fight?
  25. Indiana Jones Adventure? Fast-loading and fast-unloading. Simple check yet safe. What an enjoyable experience.
