Mitch Hawker 2010 poll
Skycoastin Steve replied to Skycoastin Steve's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Agreed. I haven't had that situation too many times, but I think I would probably be more lenient with a coaster if I felt the rides were probably not as good because of the weather. I definitely wouldn't give it a horrible ranking if I felt it could have been a much better ride under better conditions. Let's be real here, no coaster is OMFG good every single day, just like no coaster is OMFG bad every single day (well......maybe some are). I try to be as reasonable as possible when ranking coasters, but obviously rankings are all in the eye of the beholder, anyway. -

^But shouldn't you probably expect a ride in 50 degrees to be nowhere near as good as a ride on a regular day? Let's face it, if I go to a park and it's cold, I'm not exactly thinking I'm going to be having epic rides. I went to SFGAd on a cold, rainy day last June and El Toro wasn't running anywhere near as good as it was just before Labor Day weekend 2009. But I didn't drop it in my rankings because of that. I could understand ranking a coaster lower because it was running poorly on a normal day, but doing so because it was running poorly on a day with bad weather doesn't make sense to me. -
Rode DBH not two months ago, and while it wasn't silky smooth by any stretch of the imagination, it really wasn't that rough. And the airtime was wicked. They had also done considerable track work, as there was new wood everywhere. I can think of dozens of woodies that could use this treatment before DBH.

Kennywood had absolutely no viral marketing with Sky Rocket, they just casually announced it one day. And how many people talked about it? This coaster is over a year away from opening and it's getting talked about more than Sky Rocket ever did AFTER its announcement. -
I only rode it after the re-profile when I was 10 years old, and I loved it. It was actually the coaster that got me loving coasters. Up until that point, I was pretty terrified of going upside down, but for whatever reason, it broke me of that fear and I've been loving coasters ever since. The day it was torn down was a sad day for me.

Anyone else prefer Vekoma SLC's?
Skycoastin Steve replied to jmccalip's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I prefer SLCs over things like getting stabbed with a fireplace poker, eating nails, sticking my head in an oven, and getting crapped on by a flock of pigeons. As much as I'm really not a fan of Batman clones, SLCs are just about the most evil creations on this planet, just behind Boomerangs. -
I don't understand how there could be a clearance issue above the Sky Ride. It doesn't seem like it would have to clear the Sky Ride by a whole lot to make it over safely. As far as the water table goes, there are buildings all over Florida (and probably in the park) that have foundations that go MUCH deeper than one of those trenches, so I'm sure that won't be a big issue.

So in a post on KD Fan Site, it looks as if the trims were moved back to their original location on the 3rd hill. No complaint from me on that one, at least we have the original first drop back to normal. My only question is: did the trims get moved back there automatically, or have they already tested it again? Seems like someone would have gotten a glimpse if they were testing it (unless it was testing at night). http://www.kdfansite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=714&sid=a68293003a1fc35ffbe44e55f8e4351e&start=10710#p46914

Mitch Hawker 2010 poll
Skycoastin Steve replied to Skycoastin Steve's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^But who cares what the results are? It's all fun to me, and it's still a pretty accurate representation of what enthusiasts think of rides. Is Voyage still one of the top coasters among most enthusiasts? Yes. Is it still near the top of the rankings? Yes. Is anyone who is complaining about T Express winning going to be able to give an accurate opinion if they've never ridden it? No. So how can they know if it's better or not? The opinions on El Toro/Phoenix/Boulder Dash/Voyage are split up among enthusiasts just like they are in the actual poll. A lot of people use the "grouping method" to rank their coasters, and it's safe to say that the top 5 or 10 in this poll are grouped the same way. Chances are, people are going to enjoy most, if not all of the coasters in the top 10 (save for Aska, since we can't really ride it anymore). I could see the outrage if Voyage dropped out of the top 20, but it's still right near the top. So I ask again, why does it matter THAT much? -

If they want to see how many people ranked Voyage in certain places, they should just scroll through the individual ballots. It's not like Mitch makes it a secret what people vote for. I'm one of the biggest fans of Voyage you'll find anywhere, and it didn't bother me at all that it dropped in the rankings. If it was giving rougher than normal rides this year, then it probably deserved to drop (just like any other woodie that starts getting rough, otherwise Georgia Cyclone and GhostRider would still be in the top 10). -

^^I had Voyage at #1, El Toro at #2. -
As long as they find a new home for Flight Deck (even though it was built specifically for CGA, I'm sure they could figure out a way to make it work at another park), they can scrap everything else. Cedar Fair could stand to make a fortune off this park by selling it, if for nothing else than the land it sits on.

I'm fairly certain Cedar Point, Kings Dominion, and Carowinds are all $10. -

^I think the biggest draw for hotel rooms on point is that you can easily walk back to your room in the middle of the day if need be, whereas if you're off point, you have to go out to the parking lot, drive over the causeway, go all the way back to your hotel (wherever it may be), and then come all the way back. I guess it's all a matter of opinion on whether you want the extra convenience that comes with the extra cost. -

^Sounds good to me. POVs rarely ever do a ride justice, unless there's a crazy man in them talking about airtime and twisties.
