  1. ^Because SFFT has one of the best Marketing Director's in the industry in Jeffrey Siebert.
  2. Visited the park for a few hours today. Never waited longer than 15 minutes today. Wanted to give everyone a heads up though: Goliath was down all day. I was told it has been down since Saturday due to a lightning strike.
  3. In case anyone missed today's HoliBlog post about the announcement here's a snippet from it: "I will say this, though: this is our biggest investment to date. By far. And it’s One. Big. Thing."
  4. ^My understanding is that after their bankruptcy they no longer keep parts in stock and only produce them when they receive payment. This is what leads to delays of several months when a park needs a part.
  5. The thing about those "freebies" though is they aren't really free. They are just included in your admission price. And while things could have obviously changed since the ownership lawsuit, wasn't Dan Koch quoted a couple of years ago as saying when Holiday World built it's steel coaster it would be in the $20 million range?
  6. It's been gone for several years. The majority was removed back in 2009 and the remainder a couple of seasons later. Dan tweeted the picture out on Saturday "‏@SplashinDan Rampage looking good. Still lots of work to be done. #SplashAdventure " "‏@SplashinDan Rampage looking good. Still lots of work to be done. #SplashAdventure "
  7. It's a Vekoma designed coaster but was manufactured by Chance. They had a deal for several years where they would market/manufacture Vekoma rides in the US. I believe Freedom Flyer at Funspot was the last one under the deal.
  8. Six Flags are regional parks too. 85% of their guests live in a 150 mile radius of their parks. Hersheypark is also located in a tourist area and has a longer operating sesason that many Six Flags parks.
  9. Blue oval- Little Harbor (boat ride-old Carousel location) Blue rectangle- Little Bumpers (kiddie bumper boats-old Speedway location Red rectangle- Splash Express (train, same layout as old train) Dark green rectangle- Centi-speed (Wacky Worm coaster-old kiddie bumper car location) Black rectangle- Crank N Roll (hand crank vehicle ride, was there when park first opened back in 1998) Red oval- Helicopter Heroes (helicopter/hovercraft ride- old kiddie airplane location Pink square- There's a "Coming Soon" sign there with a picture of a balloon ferris wheel on it (old Balloon Wheel location) Lime green square- There's a "Coming Soon" sign there with a picture of a Jump Around on it (old Hampton motorcycles location)
  10. Wait...is that name the result of the Wacky Worm naming contest? Yes it was.
  11. California's Great America- Gold Striker opened late. Canada's Wonderland- Wonder Mountain's Guardian opened late. Carowinds- Their waterpark opened last weekend. The new slides aren't ready yet. The new dining/show hall isn't ready yet. Cedar Point- Maverick, Shoot the Rapids, and Windseeker all opened late. Dorney Park- Demon Drop, a relocated ride, opened in July 2010. Possessed opened late too, and it was removed from Geauga Lake over a year before it opened at Dorney. Their waterpark opened last weekend and the new slides weren't finished when it opened. Kings Dominion- Dominator opened Memorial Day weekend in 2008. It was relocated. Kings Island- Windseeker opened in June 2011 Knott's Berry Farm- Xcelerator opened late. Windseeker opened late. The refurbished Camp Snoopy/Calico Mine Ride doesn't open for nearly three more weeks. Worlds of Fun- Steelhawk still hasn't opened. It's a relocated ride. It's not just a Six Flags problem.
  12. Centispeed at Alabama Splash Adventure. It made me feel like a dirty credit whore
  13. ^Lightning Run was announced as only being $7 million I believe.
  14. Very impressed. Already wanted to head back to Kings Island for Banshee and this would make for a nice bonus for that trip.
  15. The last time I was at SFA a few years ago they were actually doing this on a couple of the rides. The train would park outside the station, the main panel op would announce "Visual scan" and then they would bring the train in.
  16. ^What I always found funny was back in 2010 I visited both KD and KI and at KD only the splashdown effect was working while at KI the splashdown was the only effect NOT working
  17. ...you don't see original names/themes like Flight Deck, Drop Tower, Windseeker, Power Tower, Woodstock Express, Big Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Toy Story Midway Mania, Tower of Terror, Revenge of the Mummy, Transformers: The Ride, Jurassic Park River Adventure, Manta, or Journey to Atlantis. Six Flags needs to step up their game like Cedar Fair, Disney, Universal, and Sea World.
  18. That was what I would tell people (usually using the phrase 'technical difficulties'), but then many times it turns into "Well what kind of technical difficulties?" or "Well how long does it usually take?" if you answer either of those questions you break policy, if you don't the guests get upset with you. For ops it can really be darned if you do, darned if you don't. Now this doesn't go for all parks, but many will at least tell you if they anticipate it to be a long delay. However, other things can come up and the worst thing a guest can do is then get upset when what was anticipated to be a short delay turns into a long delay.
  19. ^^ There is never a reason to pay full price for a ticket to Six Flags. There is always a discount out there. That is part of the reason they charge so much for parking. ^Very few, if any, parks allow their operators to say what is wrong with a ride. Most operators wouldn't even know what is wrong with the ride anyway, they just know it is either sounding funny, not starting, or if it has a computer style control panel they might only know it is telling them there is a maintenance fault. For me one of the most annoying things are season pass holders that act like they should be able to do what they want because they own a pass. I have heard everything from "We should be allowed in to private events" to "we keep the park in business so we should be able to bring our own food and drinks in" and everything in between.
  20. Dan Koch ( @SplashinDan) just tweeted this. Here's the picture.
  21. ^Today they clarified there is still a small chance it will reopen late this season, but it will definitely be ready for the 2015 season. Today one of the trains was shipped off to PTC for refurbishment. Here are the pictures that were posted on the park's Facebook page:
  22. ^I have always heard it did pretty well in it's return, but Dick Kinzel killed it when CF bought the park. Looks like I can finally celebrate my birthday at a park for once
