Mitch Hawker's Coaster Poll 2009!
OldJJman replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's very rough. I think part of the problem is, there is NO covering for the trains at ANY time. The complete ride is out in the open, as well as the storage track, therefore subject to the elements. IIRC, when we went in 2002, Robb's camera broke IN HIS HANDS from the violent shaking of the ride. It just sucks. I didn't even give riding it a thought, when we went back there last year. I, happily, became the "bag lady", and held everyone's backpacks etc... while they rode. I laughed at everyone of them as they got off too!! I will admit, it does look cool. But, that's as far as it goes. If you look at the pics closely, almost all of the turns are about 90 degrees, with an 8 ft. radius. That wouldn't be all that bad, BUT, there is a flange running along the top of the track that only permits the cars to swing out about 2-3 feet from vertical before it SLAMS into the flange. So you're just banging L-R-L-R-L-R etc... throughout the ride. There's a POV of it that Robb and Joey shot, as well as coverage of Elissa and Dave HATING their ride as we laughed from the ground. That footage is only available on the DVD - Coaster Expedition v.12. (edited as Robb made the clarification!) JJ -
Mitch Hawker's Coaster Poll 2009!

I just spent over an hour doing mine! (827 steel) I agree with Robb. Just group them if you have a lot. Makes it much easier!! I have my top 11 (10 steel plus top woodie), then: 20's = I'd love too ride again! 30's = I'll ride if I'm there and don't have to wait too long. 40's = I really don't want to ride, but will if I have to. 50's and beyond = Got the credit, tear the stupid thing down!! So, with that being said, My top 10 (11): 1. Favorite wood - (T-Express) 2. Expedition GeForce 3. Bizarro (SFNE) 4. Eagle's Fortress 5. Kawasemi Fly Over Mediterranean (HV Chegdu) Mega-Lite (HV Shanghai) 6. Kumba 7. Dragon Kahn 8. Nemesis 9. Montu 10. Pyrenees 11. Atlantis Adventure And now, the worst... 51. Spinning Batman 52. Manhattan Express 53. Titan (Space World) 54. G Force (Drayton Manor) 55. Ninja (SFoG) 56. Screamin' Squirrel (Mysterious Island) 57. Dragon (Ocean Park) 58. Eejanaika 59. Goudrix JJ -
Mitch Hawker's Coaster Poll 2009!
OldJJman replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So, if Kristen votes "Miner Mike" at Adventuredome in Vegas at #1, and hers probably being the only vote for it, does that then become the #1 steel coaster in the world?? JJ (I know what the answer is, I still think it's cool that she's been able to do so much at her age!) -
Um... Where did I actually judge it?? Was it this statement? Hardly a judgement. It's an observation, and it's HIGHLY UN-ORIGINAL!!! It's all over "Illuminations" and not too impressive, even on it's MUCH larger scale!! Perhaps you were referring to this statement: Nah, that couldn't be it. FYI - That was sarcasm, referring to the spinners on the castle at Disneyland next door, which EVEN AFTER TESTING caused several trees to catch on fire, DURING A LIVE PERFORMANCE and had to be scaled back. Maybe it was here: No, that couldn't be it, as there is nothing ORIGINAL to claim a judgement on. Therefore, why waste my 10 minutes driving to see a compilation of a mix-n-match, perhaps even a "best of" effects show? Not a judgement, a factual opinion. How about this one: Oh, there it is!! My bad! I judged it on how impressive all of the hardware, which is now underneath the water, and the amount of $$ spent on it, looked. It looked cool. Was it in here too? No. Once again, that was an opinion At least I admitted I'll probably see it at some point. There's absolutely NOTHING about this show that is even remotely exciting, (except for the nerdy technology to put it on) as everything in it has already been done somewhere else at, and by, Disney. Whoop. Ti. Do. JJ

After seeing the above video, consider me EXTREMELY un-impressed!! A bunch of poofs of flame?? Please. I'm surprised they haven't added spinning sparklers to to "Fun Wheel" yet. Nothing I've seen: artwork, testing vids, various descriptions, etc... will make me drive the 2.7 miles to rush out and see this. The only thing impressive, is the amount of work and fabrication that is now underwater. I may be alone on this one, but I really think that this will only be worth seeing - once. JJ

Hooray for Golden Horse!! No doubt, we need more in-depth coverage!!! JJ -
Wow. The plans for Mystic Manor seem quite ambitious, and quite extensive!! That could be quite an awesome attraction, if not THE signature attraction, of the park. The "trackless" ride system, all of the special effects... (vortex room sounds great!) I hope they pull it off. If they do, (and I'm kind of assuming they will), who knows?? Maybe we can see something like this (a trackless ride that immerses you in a cool story line) in the states. It's a beautiful park, with some of the friendliest Disney employees I've ever encountered. I still hope it succeeds. These additions certainly can't hurt! JJ

I guess I must have a mental disease, because I don't have El Toro on my list. Then again, I haven't ridden it. For the record, I have Balder and Voyage ranked at #13 & #15 respectively. JJ -

Wow. Another "I told you so" moment! Some people might want to get back up to speed. Please start here. I wrote that 18 months ago (Almost to the day!). Please, if you don't read everything, then keep up by reading here. Still not convinced?? Try reading here. The I got cranky and wrote this. Then this financial debacle continued. So did I, look here. I would imagine that now, 18 months after I started, it would be dead and gone. I guess I was wrong. But, I doubt that I'm wrong on any other aspect of this whole ordeal. In many places, these acts could probably be deemed a criminal act of fraudulence. Don't be blinded. It's all a sick joke on anyone who may believe in it. JJ PS. You knew I'd be back, didn't you? -

Roller Coaster Kingdom
OldJJman replied to J man's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
I've been playing it since its' infancy. I don't care for a few of the changes that they've implemented (booking tours, not having a customer rating, etc...), but I've stuck with it. I should hit level 25 (currently the highest level w/415,000 XP) in about an hour when my parking lot full of mini-vans becomes available. Also sitting on about 4.2 million coins. All I can do is hope for higher levels, so it'll all be about racking up coins for awhile. Remember, the game is still listed as a "beta" version, so there glitches that happen, and many updates/upgrades that happen almost daily. When that happens the server goes down for about 30-45 minutes as they implement their changes. Just don't get all upset over it (over the last month, I've probably been screwed out of over a million coins), like the people on their boards do (OMG - it's hilarious!!) It's just a damn game. But, I enjoy it, as it's FREE!!! Feel free to add me if you need more neighbors. JJ -
Speed: The Ride Launch Times
OldJJman replied to Twister II's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
What Elissa was saying was, they used to offer back-to-back launches. I believe it was also a promo for awhile, way back when (with a single ride ticket). In Feb. 2001, for a $15 all day pass, we rode it something like 48 times. Often, 4 or 5 launches in a row, because only the two of us were riding. Like Elissa said: it all boils down to $$$$$. It's pretty damn expensive to launch that many times a day. Unfortunately, somebody in bookkeeping probably figured that out. JJ -
Perhaps you're right. BUT, Disneyland's does have a very crappy projection of rats (which works about only 65% of the time), along with quite crappy headlight projections of NO spiders on the wall (which hasn't been working all that consistently this past summer either). It's just a crappy projection. So what's your point? JJ
-
I, too, would rate Pharaoh's Fury over Disneyland's Indy. It's a longer ride, the "dead"spots are out in the light (instead of complete darkness), and the amazing fire room! Though capacity was an issue, perhaps the new t-bars WILL help! Though I rate Disneysea's Indy the best of the three. It has Paco! Another point, the Disneyland Indy has the worst queue of the three! IMO. Fixed!! They should have scrapped Rolling X Train, and used the money to (somehow) save Eagle Fortress!!!! JJ

^Ditto. What she said!!
