The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread
Mechanic replied to Wes's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
With all the excitement Terminator Salvation: The Ride is expected to bring to SFMM guests this summer, the park plans to build on that momentum for the 2010 season with The Tooncinator coaster. Details are sketchy at this point, but word has it that the original name of El Loco Gato was shelved after in-park surveys revealed that far more guests identified with the Terminator and Tooncinator brands. Disclaimer: This post is for entertainment purposes only. -
You made a lot of good points when you originally shared your feelings on this current makeover of the park Robb, and I respect your experienced opinion, however... It seems that the perspectives of some of the well-traveled enthusiasts on this site are considerably different than my own when it comes to some of the planned attractions. Take Radiator Springs Racers for example. I believe I can understand your statement, "Oh, cool, so California is *FINALLY* getting a Test Track ride...10 years later..." to some degree, but to someone like myself that's never visited any of the other Disney properties, it's really exciting to have the ride and land coming here to CA. I have a little higher expectations for The Little Mermaid ride than it seems like you do. Hopefully we can be both be pleased and it will turn out better than you expect. That was definitely the case for me with TSM, as I found that ride to be very, very fun despite my lackluster enthusiasm over initial reports of the Florida version's opening. The trolleys may not be a particularly exciting addition, but I do hope they lend a little more "ambiance" to the park. I have only ridden the Main Street Vehicles a few times at Disneyland, but just their presence adds a believability to the experience of being on Main Street. I think that's what they're gong for at DCA as well, and I think it can work. It's not my intention to pick apart your observations. I just found myself feeling quite a bit more optimistic about some the additions to DCA than you seemed to be.

I've resigned myself to the fact that different areas of the park aren't going to look very good for the next few years. Hopefully the end will justify the means, and I believe it will. For now we're just going to have to live with "Disney's California Adventure - In The Raw!" If I were a once-in-a-lifetime visitor, then yeah, I'd be pretty bummed out that I never got to see it looking nice. As it is, I'll be interested to check out what I do see of the construction over the next few years, prepared to deal with the associated hassles, and looking forward to the completion.

2009 Academy Award Winners - The "Oscars"
Mechanic replied to robbalvey's topic in Random, Random, Random
I only saw WALL-E and The Dark Knight. Both were worth seeing, but nothing that knocked my socks off. The only other movie from that list that I'm somewhat interested in is The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. To those that have seen any of the other movies, am I really missing anything? -
Be sure to watch to the video to the end to see what I feel is the most amazing part of this technology: It makes complete assemblies that have individual moving parts! The intended usage shown here in the video (re-creating hard to find automobile parts) really seems to me to sell short the true potential of these types of emerging technologies. The scary part is that it makes me wonder how long it will be before we have Terminator robots building more Terminator robots. Anyhow, here's the link: Jay Leno garage Nextengine 3D scanner and plastic molding machine

Maybe Xcelerator is really Terminator and it came Back From The Future. In 2012 the rides will meld into a rocket woodie simulator that will kill everyone on the planet. This whole 2012 end of the world thing is making way more sense now. -
^ Haha! Like the "cock fights" in the movie Night Patrol? Seriously though, it was an honest question. I edited the first post to include a video of the scene I was referring to in case some people aren't familiar with the movie.

Personally, I have never seen a better sword fight than the one between Liam Neeson and Tim Roth in the movie Rob Roy. Are there any that you feel are better? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27M5KWI_q50 (edited to add a working link to the video as the original link was no longer working)

Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride

They could have accomplished that goal by simply lining up a few old cement trucks, then tossing in 20 people at time and spinning the mixing drum. -
Vekoma Pandora's Box
Mechanic replied to Mechanic's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The theming and ride story line would be limited only by the imagination and budget of the park installing the ride. That's why I immediately thought of Disney when I saw it. Disney already having a seemingly good relationship with Vekoma is another plus. Since having made the original post I have thought about a potential problem, and that would be carry on items. Disney parks have always seemed to be the most accommodating when it comes to allowing riders to carry their items with them on a ride. This ride system would not lend itself to that policy very well at all, so that would be a hurdle to overcome. However, with Disney's history of having well-staffed rides, I'm sure that items left aside during the ride could be securely managed. -

^ More importantly, does he dance? I just sent my caption entry to Dan. I've always wanted a TPR bag-o-crap, so I hope it's good enough to merit such a fine reward. Thanks for another great update. -
SFNO/Jazzland Discussion Thread

Who is this dork? His penchant for grammar and spelling errors does little to convey a sense of executive presence from someone claiming to be a CEO. His plea comes across as, "Please give me somewhere between 35 and 103 million dollars so that I may begin failing." I think he needs to put the crack pipe down and slowly walk away. I think it was Einstein that said something along the lines of: "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result." The scariest part of this deal is that if the economy weren't in the tank right now, this clown may have actually been able to eventually bullsh!t someone into funding something this stupid. (Hard Rock Park comes to mind.) Wow. I mean, seriously... Wow! -
I came across this ride system while browsing Vekoma's website: Pandora's Box Their description of the ride experience possibilities sound like something that would be right up Disney's alley. Low capacity would likely be the first objection, but I believe that issue could be overcome by having multiple towers running simultaneously on the same track with the show scenes' length corresponding to the loading time. Thoughts? Note: Edited to include the latest page of the Vekoma site showing the ride system. This was due to the fact that the old site link was dead.

I share the same sentiment.

^ It's new to the Brazilian park, but not a new coaster. It was relocated from a Japanese park. -
NEWS : Man falls to his death
Mechanic replied to hobbit's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The video link in the 2nd post shows a slender young man escaping the restraint with surprisingly little effort. His escape starts at about the 1:54 mark of the video. I'm honestly not sure what to make of this incident. It's sad news in any case though. -
Thank you for the nice added feature.

On the line, "Anyway, the thing is, what I really mean..." it sounds like you sing the word "Anyway" as "Anyways". "Anyways" isn't a proper English word so it makes it sound a bit off. Additionally, on the line, "How wonderful life is while you're in the world." it sounds like you sing the word "now" in place of the word "while". Again, please just take this as a minor critique. My overall impression was that you were pretty good, with a strong finish to the song. It's just that I'm very detail oriented and some of the words sounding a little off did catch my attention. I do hope you continue to develop your talent and wish you the best of luck.
-
I agree with many others that have posted that you do have talent. Now, don't take this the wrong way, but I couldn't help but notice that you either got some of the words wrong, or they just didn't come out clearly to me. It also did seem like you were straining a bit in certain parts of the song. Don't let that bother you though. You do have talent. It just seems to me that it needs some more development. Keep working at it and you'll do fine.
