The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread
Mechanic replied to Wes's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I hope this pans out. That hill top has been pretty dead since they closed down the motion theatre. Upon momentary reflection, the most recent offerings in the motion theatre weren't anything to write home about either. I'm pretty sure the last time I saw it open was during HOP 2008 when they had a simply ho-ho-horrid Santa movie playing in there. -

QFT! I did it wrong once. ONCE! That's all it took to learn my lesson. Adjusting a little clearance between the junk and the bicycle seat is all it takes to have a much more enjoyable stand up ride experience. -
I agree for the most part on the generally crappy food offerings and high prices, but I've found Mooseburger lodge to be surprisingly affordable (in theme park terms) for the pretty-good quality of food and free soda refills. I just figured I'd throw that out there in case anyone hadn't tried it for fear it was a rip-off.

Non Destructive Testing on ride welds
Mechanic replied to Anything's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Quoted from the following link: www.weldingandgasestoday.org It's my understanding that several different methods of non destructive testing can be, and are, performed on ride vehicles and tracks. They would include: Visual inspection (VT), magnetic particle inspection (MT, or magnaflux), radiographic inspection (RT, or x-ray), liquid penetrant inspection (PT) and ultrasonic inspection (UT). While I'm certainly not an expert on the subject of roller coasters specifically, I am an automotive technology instructor with over 25 years of field experience, as well as a hobby machinist and welder. I have considerably more training and experience in the area of metallurgy, welding, and testing than your average person. -
Biggest Disappointment of 2010?
Mechanic replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Although it's now 2011, reading some of the recent reports about SFMM has me thinking that possibly the biggest disappointment of 2010 may have been Jay Thomas leaving that park for the corporate offices. -
What is your local park?

SFDK, about an hour and a half away. CGA, about 2 and half hours away. SCBB, about 3 hours away. Gilroy Gardens, also about 3 hours away. -
Happy birthday Robb! Thank you for the update. I'm sorry to hear that your vist sort of sucked. I'll count myself among those that are hoping it was just an "off" day. Let's hope that by the time the spring and summer seasons are in full swing they've got their act together a little better. By the way, the new video for Apocalypse almost makes me think they should have renamed it, "First person shooter: The Ride". "Remember your family! Shoot to kill!"

The old saying: "You have to break a few eggs to make an omelette." seems to apply here. Are they going to face challenges with a new and un-tested design? Of course. The idea that this wasn't fully thought through is laughable though. How would any of us looking in from the outside have any clue whatsoever as to what the design and implementation of this concept entailed? I'm willing to give Six Flags, a company that deals with these types of issues on a literally daily basis, the benefit of the doubt for having done due diligence on the feasibility of this transformation. Anything beyond that is purely conjecture, and less than completely informed conjecture at that.

Those photos are nothing short of spectacular. -
^ Oops, I missed a Vikings win. You're right, they came in 5-9. But certainly not 10-4 as ParkTrips had posted.

The Vikings came in 4-9, their records were nearly inverse.

I'm glad you're enjoying yourselves. I was really looking forward to the snowmobiling segment since that's one of my other hobbies. Thanks for all the pictures and especially the videos. -

I had thought it was the human (non-inverted) side that lost a seat.
