  1. All those levels were head-spinningly confusing; wonder if they'll streamline to fewer. I'm relieved that they're just looking to add perks for new higher levels rather than taking away from what we currently get. Yeah I agree, and sorry its a little confusing, I wasnt planning on copying it when I started and couldnt go back once I was in the middle, so it was just from memory. The gist is like you say, mostly the same for current members, additional perks if you want to pay more, and the perks get better the more you pay. The only potential downside for me is that some (more than currently) parking is going to be reserved for higher paying members, and some waits could be longer with more double rides and exit passes floating around.
  2. Not really, which is also part of the problem. Given the SoCal theme park market, you'd think SFMM season passes could be raised higher than that with relative ease. But given that coasters and that price point are the two biggest magnets they have to draw people this far north away from USH, KBF, DLR etc. Since SFMM's attendance is already much lower than those parks, the price point is a dangerous tool to try to use to increase revenues. Good call. The new survey they just sent out suggests they are looking at changing the current model. The good news is that for the most part, if you want to pay what you're paying now, you still can, and mostly get the same stuff. The only thing that looks like it would go away is the gold pass early entry - it looks like they're planning on moving that to the gold pass "plus" level membership. They're going to have Regular, Gold, Gold Plus, Platinum, Diamond, and Diamond Elite level memberships. (These levels apply to memberships only, not season passes) with Gold Plus only being a few cents per month more than Gold and Elite just under $20/month. I should have written it down, I believe Platinum was like 10.85 and Diamond was 13.85 or so - at least those are the prices theyre considering currently, they might change before the program is launched. Some useful potential benefits to the upper levels such as discounted concession and merch (bigger discount the higher your level), ditto for friend tickets on all days, automatic preferred parking, exit passes that work on ANY ride (even X2, TC, SEFK, etc), discounted or free flash pass depending on membership level...lots more. It gets really crazy at the highest level, the listed benefits for it included Priority Preferred Parking, early entry, half off most concessions and merch, half off friend tickets on all days, unlimited free drinks, free flash pass on every visit, 2 exit passes on each visit, free double rides, and more - on every visit. They could probably charge more for that than they're planning to. First reaction might be negative for some at tiered pricing, but I like that for the most part the park is finding a new way to increase revenue to pay for operating 365 days per year, which really was inevitable, while at the same time not raising the current prices to current SP/Membership guests, you choose if you want to upgrade.
  3. Some incredible images coming in. These were sent to me so I dont know who the credit is.
  4. Yeah and unfortunately its on the wrong side of the park. It would have to destroy the entire rest of the park before it got to the coaster I wouldnt mind burning.
  5. You and I can definitely be friends. I love it for the same reason - it's the only coaster where I just never know what to expect, and I love the anticipation and the rush of not knowing exactly what it's going to do. Sometimes it's boring, often it's painful, but when it's just right man it's amazing. I've still yet to try one of the new FreeSpin coasters to compare against it. I guess that would be Monte and I, so thank you
  6. Yeah last time I saw it open was 2013, but nonetheless, it is by far the coolest place in the park when/if it ever opens.
  7. Well then let me rephrase and say in OUR opinion we thought it was a dump, and we will always remember is as looking like a dump in 2012. That's just ridiculous. I mean if you're comparing it to DLR or something, then your expectations for a Six Flags park are out of whack. The only time the park could really could be considered a dump would be maybe in the 90s due to the quality of guest in the park during those years, but certainly not in 2012.
  8. The Sky Tower when it's open, The FT Sports Bar, Kwerk Theatre, Food Etc. are all good places to cool off. The Dole Whips at Food Etc. are surprisingly good compared with the rest of the food at MM.
  9. In the slow season you could easily just walk in and hit everything. July is quite busy, but if you're willing to buy a flash pass, you could still do everything easily. I'd wager you could probably squeeze everything in without it if you were smart, but it would probably be a lot more planning and hurrying and less fun and freedom to roam. Joker is currently the star attraction and you want to start there on busy days. If you get to the front gate more than 30 minutes before gates open, you can probably assure yourself of walking onto the first Joker train, but bet on the line being a lot longer before you can get a second lap in. Hit Superman second, Wonder Woman third, V2 next if it's running, then do White Water Falls if you're into water rides, then go to the Land area to hit Medusa, Kong, Sky Screamer, and Cobra. Then do the less popular areas of the park including Boomerang if you really want that credit, Hammerhead, etc. Harley Quinn will probably be open by then and it will be new so it will be popular, so I'd reckon probably doing that before or after Wonder Woman.
  10. If not for Joker, it's say they had already passed DK up. I'd also wager given CGA's ambitious master plan, it's only a matter of time before they leave DK firmly in the dust. Cedar Fair is investing an amazing amount of time and money in it's west coast parks.
  11. I would love to, as that is my favorite subject! I'll go in order of benefit from greatest to least: Riddler's Revenge - Walk up the exit and head towards the flash pass entrance but before you get there, right before you turn the corner to see the lockers, on your right is a nondescript door with a dark stairway. It leads up to the front of the loading platform. Just wave to let an operator know you're there and most of the time you get on the current train, occasionally in rare cases you may wait one more train. No matter how long the standby line is it's virtually always a walk-on. Green Lantern - Walk up the exit and look for the single rider sign that leads right up to the main dispatching ride operator. Please be respectful and don't yell at or startle the operator since you will be right behind him, but let them know you are there and they will load you the next chance they get. I usually wait 5-10 minutes. You actually tend to wait less on busier days because on busier days there are more large groups of 3 or 5 that don't evenly load into the cars. On slow days when it's lots of singles and pairs, there's less empty seats. Lex Luthor - When the ride is busy (and actually only when it's busy - otherwise they don't use the single rider line) you walk up towards the exit and there is a very small que to wait at on the left..it's hard to describe exactly where it is, so you might have to ask an employee if you aren't sure. Kinda like Green Lantern, wait times can be 5-15 min or more because of the large number of seats on the gondolas there aren't as many empty seats, but the good news is that when you do load via the single rider line you're almost always on the outside seat. Revolution - No longer has a proper single rider line, but occasionally they will solicit single riders from the front of the line, especially if you aren't using VR. Viper - Reportedly there's a single rider line if you walk up the exit, but since there's never a standby line for Viper, I have no idea why it exists and have never had the need to use it.
  12. I think it's safe to say V2 will be running backwards, at least part of the time.
  13. I dont think theyre going to add a Disk-O. Free Fly seems to be the prevailing rumor that I've heard, hope it's true because I'd love to have one close and I think it would be a great fit. Would rather see the go karts removed if something has to be.
  14. Traffic in LA can vary wildly. Without traffic, you can get from downtown to MM in about 45 minutes. During rush hour, it could take you up to 2 hours or more. If you can, download the Waze app for your phone, works well for finding the least congested route, works very well in Los Angeles in my experience.
  15. There are more than just enthusiasts, for sure...I mean mathematically the park would probably close otherwise. I was more talking about if the price difference increased substantially though, and while I dont think someone would drive 6 hours on a one time trip to save, someone might wait until a trip north to purchase their membership, I know people who have done that. There's also people like me who live much closer to SFDK but visit SFMM more than DK. I dont think its something that would break them, just money left on the table that they might think about.
  16. If you're talking about California vs New Jersey, sure, but there's quite a few people that go to both SFDK and SFMM, and having your pass processed at SFDK isn't a big deal, especially if it's a membership and you won't have to renew it each year. I believe the SFDK pass is currently a little bit cheaper than SFMM already, but at the moment I don't think it's enough for MM to really care, I just wonder if they will care more if the disparity becomes larger.
  17. If SFMM's pass costs more than at other parks, then are they going to change how they handle other parks' SPs? Will guests from other parks have to pay an add-on price or buy a "platinum" pass or something to enable usage at SFMM? Does SFMM stop honoring passes from other parks altogether? Start blackout dates for passes from other parks? If SFMM raises the price for their pass but continues honoring SP's from other parks without a change, buying a membership at SFDK will be a popular alternative.
  18. I never rode it with these effects before, but this is great news for Haunt! OMFG I'm there! Just the "welcome to the demon" coming back would be amazing, but I've never ridden it with the fog or blood fall either! Cedar Fair really is doing everything right with this park, I'm really excited for the next 5-10 years here.
  19. Again? They just closed it for like 8 months for some retracking... any idea what they're doing now? They need to blow that ride up! Replace it with a new Big Dive Coaster to take up old Deja Vu and Apocalypse land. Have you ridden it since the latest refurb? They actually made a difference this time, I dare say it's enjoyable now, though it will never been a smooth ride, it's at least down to just being rough as any old woodie. I used to say tear it down too, but now that it's been improved, I'd rather they keep it as long as they can keep it in this condition.
  20. Yes, it was a promo shoot, that was awesome. I was there on the first day (though they did it two or three days in a row), got to be the 5th person loaded on the first ever public train, and got 8 consecutive laps that day, all before all the foam and walls were added! Wouldn't be surprised if they did the same with RailBlazer, and I'll be there if they do. Last time they did it on what was normally a closed day for the park, and nothing else was open except one concession stand. It was nice to be able to park right at the front gate. No fence, great photo op for trains at close range! (The employee was there to make sure people didnt stick a hand out at the train or something and lose it) So new...no walls!
  21. Well realistically at this point with RMC's reputation, any wooden coaster not at SFGAdv that's more than a few years old and not of historical significance is going to get the RMC discussion.
  22. Well yeah, it's popular with kids and those who don't want the extreme thrills, which is why it's still worth keeping I think, it's a good stepping stone or starter coaster. Its not rough at all, but there's zero thrill for any thrill ride veteran. The reason for the long lines though is mainly because of the horrendous dispatch times. It's probably the slowest dispatching ride I've ever seen not counting VR coasters. The seats and restraints are funky and over complicated resulting in lots of rechecks and an extremely inordinate number of walks of shame. It's usually >5 minutes per train. If you walk up and see just a station wait, that's usually about a half hour. At least the station is covered. If you want to try it without waiting, it's actually pretty easy due to the fact that Grizzly usually does not open with the park. It will usually open about 90 minutes after the park opens, so you can ride other things at park open and then walk over and ride Grizzly right when it opens to avoid the slow moving line. Personally I'd like them to keep it around, but I wouldn't be opposed to an RMC conversion, because, I mean come on, who would turn down an RMC?
  23. There is competition in the area but SFMM doesn't really compete with it. They're the coaster park of the SoCal market. That's what they've chosen to be. I think what he means is that with KBF restoring Ghost Rider into the amazing ride it now is and adding a dive coaster in addition to their Accelerator and B&M Invert, SFMM may have more coasters, but may no longer be the only park in Southern California you consider when thinking thrill coasters - especially when you consider KBF has so much more to offer than coasters. It used to be KBF is a better park but SFMM has the thrill rides, now KBF has both, SFMM just has more thrill rides.
  24. You're not supposed to, but if it's just one or two people they might make an exception if you ask nicely and quietly. If it's a large party they will probably say no.
