10-20? As much as I love X2, with it being as rough as it is I usually don't ride it more than once a day, twice is pushing it. I accidentally did 3 during WCB and still don't know how I survived. (Accidentally = I decided to push my luck and ride a second time, then they gave us a pass-through the station)

The fight is inevitable, just look at what went on at CGA. The park was there long before their neighbors, but it didn't stop their neighbors from complaining and standing on their rooftops with decibel meters so they could go complain to the city and demand extra walls be added to roller coasters. I believe DLR added the tunnel to California Screamin' for the same reason despite DLR being there way before any neighbors.

GhostRider will never be RMC'd in the forseeable future. Matt Ouimet has stated in interviews before that they have no plans to remove or change it in any way at any time in the future - and for me that was backed up when they spent so much time and money (successfully!) rehabbing it. It was one of the last projects (or maybe the last, I forget) planned by the Knott family, so it's sacred. I disagree about the thrill and/or forces anyway. I rode it (repeatedly) at WCB right after the rehab, and I think it's still easily one of the most forceful woodies on the west coast, just without the ouch. I can't wait to get down there for the next WCB and marathon it again.

Places to eat: Outside the park! But seriously it used to be much worse..the FT Sports Bar/Grill is not bad, and I've heard Twisted 'Wiches is pretty decent though expensive. F_ull Thr0ttle and X2 are the coasters most people run to immediately when the gates open, so they're always busy early. You could head there first too, or hit them at the end of the day when the line usually dissipates. If you don't have a Platinum Flash Pass, Superman is a good one to hit first since it is 1x Platinum FP Only. It has a notoriously slow moving line, and except during weekends in the summer, they rarely run both sides. Twisted Colossus' line moves very quickly, so it's not usually a problem except on the busiest of days. Rule of thumb is as long as the line doesn't spill out of the covered que, it's not a problem. If they put up the temporary stanchions outside the station, its gonna be a while. Pay attention to if anything is running 1 train (or 2 for Twisted Colossus) and hit those first, because running less trains means que moves at a snails pace and line probably wont get short all day long.

Absolutely, especially as it will be brand new and extremely popular. I would get to the park at least 45-60 mins before gates open to get in line and then head straight to Railblazer. Even with higher capacity it's going to be crazy for a while since it's brand new. Pro Tip: if you can't be there early, watch for the ride to go down for whatever reason, at which point they will empty the que. This happens very frequently with brand new rides, and most GP guests will not wait at all, which to me is crazy..youll wait in line for 2 hrs+ but not for 15 mins for a breakdown? Anyway, if they empty the que, just stand near the entrance, and when it comes back up, you can walk right on. I did that a lot with Gold Striker when it was new. The employees will never give you an uptime ETA because they dont want to be responsible for being wrong, but you can kinda gauge it yourself based on what activity is going on in the station. If there are mechanics on the track, especially if there is also no one in the station, it might be a while. If there's a mechanic at the operators panel, theyre probably about to test cycle. First they test cycle empty, then they test cycle with an employee. Usually when you see it start to test cycle, it's 10-15 min wait to be back up if there's no problem.

she said she rented it out. exactly what that meant, i don't know. they posted a couple clips at night. it did look like it was just their group. they had rented it out in the past for the reality show. then it was during a closed day i believe. that day, i remember them just driving around from ride to ride. lol last night could have just been after they closed, and maybe just a few rides. i have no idea. I believe that was her more famous sister Kim who was driving from ride to ride in a Suburban. I think in the past when you rented the park out on a closed day you could choose to have X number of rides or pay more for the whole park (kinda like when you do ERT)...but with the park being open 365 days now, if I'm the park I dont see a big savings either way because I have to shut the whole park down to other guests either way. Is it possible to "rent out" DLR? Or is it just so expensive no one does it? I can't imagine what they would have to charge for that. I've never heard of anyone doing it short of Disney themselves when they occasionally shut down early for the premiere of a Disney movie in the park or something.

I thought I heard someone say once it was somewhere in the neighborhood of 100k to rent it out for the day. It might be different now though. If you think about it if you're renting the park on a day they werent open anyway, you have to pay them to open and staff for you, but if you rent the park on a day they were planning to be open, you're blocking paying customers from entering, so maybe you have to pay more to cover that cost. Then again maybe they give you a deal if you're Kylie Jenner and you promise to post it on instagram, 'cause that's pretty good advertising.

Iron Wolf isn’t defunct, it was relocated to SFA and renamed Apocalypse. I rode it just a few weeks ago. Otherwise correct though. Iron Wolf was the first B&M and opened 4/28/1990, Vortex was the second and opened 3/9/1991. Didn't know that before. #3 is Vortex at Carowinds, #4 was the original Batman at SFGA, and the fifth B&M (and second B&M invert) ever was Top Gun right here at CGA.
-
I think for Vortex veterans, Patriot is viewed in a much better light because it's an improvement, but if you havent ridden Vortex a lot, and are just comparing Patriot to other Floorless B&Ms, it doesnt compare as favorably. I dont think it's bad for what it is, its just not much. Kinda like Grizzly.

i also like superman for what it is, but rarely ever ride it because the line is often too long. anywhere near the entrance of the building is long for me. i need to just ride on a ghost town day. Yeah I agree, that queue is miserable and slow moving since they rarely run both sides..anything other than a few train wait is too much for me. oh, let me also add that, i can wait, but what often makes the wait worse is, if it's a hot summer day and you get stuck near someone, or a whole line of people, with end of the day BO. Yeah thats exactly what I mean when I say that queue is miserable - it's enclosed, there's no ventilation, and the A/C never completely works, so it's always hot humid and nasty in there.

Don't go giving them any ideas! I still think the best place for "a hi-tech, thrilling, VR experience" is on the ground (restrooms, parking lot etc.) If it must go on a ride, stick it on Green Lantern or the Go-Karts or something. Green Lantern? Are you trying to kill people? That's about the only coaster worse to put it on than Kong. I'd rather nix VR altogether, but if it has to be on something, Lex Luthor isnt bad. I've heard that it's effect on dispatches so far has been minimal, and there's still the option to ride without it. All things considered I think this was a pretty smart move by MM. They've quietly had a lot of those lately. The only real "typical MM" thing has been the delay on CraZanity construction. I was wondering the same thing, and from the photo I saw of LL running with VR, it looks like they had the VR stuff set up where the SRL usually is, so it appears it may be temporarily out. No biggie, I haven't needed the SRL my last few visits anyway. They can't. It's not closed because of unpopularity, the elevators are reportedly out of code, and the park can't find anyone who's willing to renovate them at a cost they're willing to pay. They said Intamin, who originally built it, no longer has the ability to help, and anyone who does wants more than they want to pay. I'm not sure it will ever reopen.

I recently discovered some Super 8 film that had a very short video that panned across the playland park. I grabbed a bunch of frames and stitched them together as a giant panorama! I didnt bother with color/light adjustment, it was just a quick stitch, but I love it nonetheless! Unfortunately this was pretty much the only video save for about 10 seconds of the teacup type ride and some bumper car footage that's really really dark. Not sure of the date, guessing late 60's based on other films it was with. Enjoy! Playland At The Beach Panorama Link to full size photo

It's not super critical right now, because crowds are pretty light in February. Any other day of the week and it wouldn't matter at all, on Saturday I'd say to probably start with either Tatsu or Twisted Colossus, because those can maintain a steady wait of 45+ throughout the day on a Sat sometimes. I was there a few weeks ago on Sat and those were the only two that held a good line. X2 and YOLO (FT) are busy early but about an hour or so before close the lines usually die to nothing. X2's line can pick up right at park closing time though because a lot of people want to hit it right as they leave. Future parking pricing: Valet-$40 Covered premium-$35 Regular way in the back-$30 Yeah I actually figured that the new covered parking would probably be what they're using for the premium parking in the new membership tiers.

The JL SRL is in the second preshow room. After the show in the second room there are two exit doors, standard to the left and single rider to the right. I've never understood that. Single rider line AFTER you've had to wait to get into the pre-show? I agree, it'd be nicer if you could somehow skip the pre-shows entirely, but it's still pretty nice to skip the whole last queue.
