  1. What are you suggesting, tearing down an entire park and moving it to another city? It sucks that Houston doesn't have a decent park but why blame that on the bay area? How do the bay area parks (owned by two different competing companies) have anything to do with Houston's lack of one? Are you suggesting that Astroworld was closed in order to fund Discovery Kingdom?
  2. Right they wouldnt do it automatically but someone said that in response to the accident they sent someone out to inspect it.
  3. How is this any different than any regular SFMM day? I get that you're trying to take a jab at SFMM ops like everyone does but it is different. Riders have been reporting 2 hr waits for Ninja today which probably means the upper queue is mostly full, and that's not a regular day. The rest of the park is busier than usual but not "Key Club" busy, its looks like typical-summer-saturday busy except on a Sunday. Having only one train really slows down ops like nothing else, and this is (duration wise) a relatively long ride with two chain lifts.
  4. ^ Suzy Haner is currently at the California State Fair, for anyone else who's in Sacramento, she's playing every night at 5 7 and 9. Her show is indeed hilarious most of the time. She said the other day that she will be back at SFMM as soon as the state fair is over.
  5. Small micro update from today I saw the park was very busy, Superman was actually using the upper queue. SFMM was also very very busy and the State Fair that I live next to in Sacramento was as busy as I have ever seen it in my life today, so lots of were people out having fun in the California sun today.
  6. ^ If you have a gold flash pass you normally wont even have that much time. Usually once you check in and scan your pass, if you reserve your next ride immediately it will be ready before you can finish your current ride and get to the next one. Its usually only 10-15 mins for the ride to be ready for most coasters. Water rides usually run 45-60 though in the summer. The waits for the less popular coasters today were reported I think I saw 5-15 for Ninja, 15 for Revolution, 20 for Scream. YOLO had 90, X2 and Goliath had 120+. I saw some photos and they did some serious tree trimming on the hill. Some (not all) trees were completely removed, others were trimmed to the point that there was just the trunk but no branches to speak of. It's not barren, but you do notice right away that there's a lot less shade and Ninja and Jet Stream are much more visible than they were previously. On one hand I get the better safe than sorry point of view, and I don't disagree with it, but if you look at this objectively three coasters have been operating in there for decades and it hasnt happened before, and nothing has changed so I dont see where all of a sudden it's more dangerous than before unless something is going on with the health of the trees or the integrity of the soil that didn't exist before. There were workers on the hill today that appeared to be testing both of those things.
  7. I was just going to say the same thing. As I understand it, it's confirmed that Terra Mitica made changes but it's not confirmed that those changes caused the accident, that part is speculation. If Intamin has just inspected and approved the ride as someone said, then that to me would indicate that whatever unauthorized modifications were made they may not have caused the accident at all. That said though, I still don't feel that parks should be making changes like that without having the manufacturer approve them, so as long as that park continues that practice, I still don't want to visit whether they are at fault for this or not.
  8. ^ My pass was issued at SFDK so I can't see SFMM benefits, but if it's for July the last couple days havent been too busy but it looks to be extremely busy today. Of course Saturday is usually the busiest day of the week. Full Throttle was down earlier and now has a full queue, Tatsu is currently down. Reported 90+ minute waits at multiple rides, but theyre just reports. Ninja was deserted when it opened this morning, I'm interested to know how busy it is now. EDIT: The park is indeed crazy busy today. Over an 60-120 waits for every coaster except Revolution/Scream/Viper/etc and the line of cars waiting to get in is still stretching almost to The Old Rd!
  9. Just take notice that during August the hours start to taper back with workers returning back to school or vacations ending. Yes the 20th might make Key Club day look like a walk in the park and most free friend days the kids seem to bring out the older parents that just hobble or walk around the park enjoying the sites that they recall from yesteryear. Go easy on the people wearing the neon green shirts as they really are there to help you. It will be a good day just keep your elbows up. Uh no. No day makes Key Club day look like a walk in the park, thats just ridiculous. Key Club day is always the busiest day of the year easily. I didn't notice the free friend day Sunday so yeah it will probably be busy and there is a better chance that youd need a flash pass, but I dont think it will be too terrible since if I remember right I think they added these two free friend days only recently. I remember getting an email about it and thinking they might have done that to boost attendance after the bad press of Ninja. Also this is only a gold pass free friend day not a regular free friend day so those are also not as busy as the regular ones. Speaking of Ninja it is back up and running today, but there is now only one working train (#2), so if you want to ride it earlier might be better as the line will probably only grow as the day goes on. When there's only one train the line tends to grow faster than they can board riders.
  10. Interestingly (and I only looked because I had read this thread earlier) I looked at the Zipper from Butler Amusements that is currently at the California State Fair did not have a "no single rider" sign that I could, wheras last year Butler had huge signs proclaiming no single riders. I wonder if they are actually allowing them this year or they've just decided they don't need a sign. I don't care for zippers (or paying $6 for a ride) so I didn't attempt to board. Anyway, though Im not sure if the OP was really trolling, its not ride to proclaim there are "single rider policies" like this is some wave taking over the nation. I've seen it several times on Zippers, but never on any other ride. I never knew why but the safety reason for keeping people in the seat certainly sounds plausible to me. There certainly isn't any conspiracy against single riders out there - single riders are good for a park, they fill otherwise empty seats.
  11. Has anyone seen/mentioned this yet? To buy tickets to the Colossus event for $36: https://www.sixflags.com/magicmountain/store/tickets?promo_code=woody
  12. If you were going just Saturday I'd say definitely. Going half of a Saturday and a full Sunday is usually what I do, so you definitely don't need one Saturday because you're coming back the next day. As far as Sunday goes, play it by ear. Plan on the $65 (Always get the gold, not the regular) but wait until you get to the park. If it's overly crowded when you get there you can go to the office and buy one then since they never sell out and don't cost any more the day of. It looks like it wasnt too busy today and there arent any events I can see scheduled for Sunday, so I'm betting you won't need it.
  13. Next time I go to the park, I'm going to take photos and videos of all the single rider lines to show everyone.
  14. One addition, if you get to the lockers you went too far.
  15. Thats the nature of a single rider line. How fast it moves depends purely on the grouping in the standby line. The only predictability (or probability) lies in the configuration of the cars. With Riddler you always get on fast because there's 8 rows of 4, that leaves empty seats constantly. Green Lantern has multiple cars with rows of 2 (on each side) so theres often singles. With Lex there's essentially 2 rows of 8, which rarely leaves empty seats depending on the skill of the grouper. Im pretty sure Zumanjaro uses the same gondolas, its probably 8 across. The single rider lines arent long at all, the only special line thats unusually long is the Goliath Flash Pass queue, that thing is ridiculous.
  16. Is now mentioned by waterfront. Are their really enough population that is vegetarian for them to have a vegetarian restaurant? Anywhere else in the country you'd be right, but this is Los Angeles('s park), so yes there definitely are enough vegetarians. how does lex do the single rider? where do they merge them? I did the single rider line on Zumanjaro(4) times, and every time, the standby que goes faster. I wont use it anymore. NJ strict laws suck. Yeah I mentioned that issue when I was detailing the single rider lines on the previous page. The reason that happens is because unlike a coaster where you have 2 or 4 seats to a car and you will often have groups of 1 or 3 which leave empty seats for single riders, lex luthor has 2 gondolas that each fit 8 people. This gives the grouping employee lots of options and makes it much easier for them to completely fill the gondola. Filled gondola means no single riders. Thats why I said if the standby queue isn't > 30 minutes, there's no point in going through the single rider line cause the standby line will probably be faster. Even though the single rider line puts you right at the front, you could stand there 20 minutes or more until there's an open spot because most gondolas already leave full.
  17. Ride accidents don't normally make me less likely to ride a particular ride or type of ride because we know better, but finding this out (if its true) would definitely make me less likely to visit this particular park. I've never heard of a park doing something like that, and I'm surprised it would happen anywhere outside of China.
  18. Yeah, all the single rider lines are pretty well hidden. I had no idea any of them existed until someone made a post like this pointing them out. The Riddler and Green Lantern ones are my favorites, you can save tons of time. The cool thing is since no one knows about them, there's rarely anyone else in line for them at all
  19. I have a season pass for my home park (Great Adventure) so I might use the money saved on admission to get a flash pass, but then again I'm going to be a single rider all day, so maybe not. Do most of the coasters have singler rider lines? Ah, my favorite subject, single rider lines!! Unfortunately not all coasters do, I wish they did. Here are the ones that do: For Revolution just walk up through the exit and when you get to the turnstile an operator will place you. You may have to get their attention and mention that you're a single rider. On Viper the single rider line is kind of hidden..you go up the exit but then take a left and go up some stairs that take you to a gate. Get the attention of an operator there who will place you. (Fortunately SRL is rarely needed on those two rides) For Riddler, start by walking up the exit path, but don't go up the staircase that you see riders exiting from (with track above your head). Go to your left around the building and you will see a doorway on your right marked with the SRL sign and a staircase inside leading up. This staircase takes you right to the ride operator who will put you on the next train. Riddler's SRL is awesome, you can walk onto the ride virtually any time of any day no matter how busy it is. For Green Lantern walk into the exit/flashpass entrance and you will see two staircases. One is where the riders actually exit from, the other is marked with an SRL sign and will take up up to the platform right behind the dispatching ride operator. You will need to get their attention, but please be considerate as this employee will be actively dispatching trains..try to let them know you're there without surprising or distracting them. When they have an open seat they will direct you to walk through the operator's station and show you which car to board. In rare cases (In fact it's never happened to me) you might go down the stairs and across to the other side of the track and up the other staircase if they want you to board on that side. Usually they don't. Wait time for single rider here is usually 5-15 mins. Last but not least is Lex Luthor. First thing is that the SRL is not always in use. If the ride isn't busy enough, they put their SR sign away which means they wont board you as a single rider and you need to get in the regular que. If they are using it, You will see a portable SRL sign when you walk up the exit path pointing you to a chain where you wait. The Lex Luthor ops are always really prompt about seeing single riders, but because the gondolas hold so many people there's actually less opportunities (empty seats) so you can commonly end up waiting 15-30 minutes for a single rider spot. If the standby line isn't into the inside building, then its not worth it to use SRL. Watch for this sign to guide you. It's amazing how it can blend in, so look carefully.
  20. That would be a pretty good day to go I think. I dont think youll need a Flash pass that day, but its always good to budget for one to buy on the day of if it is unexpectedly busy.

  22. The park is only open Friday-Sunday in October except for Monday the 13th. If you get a Flash Pass, be aware that the Fright Fest mazes are added to the Flash Pass during event days, and due to a supposed limitation with the device, some coasters will not be on the Flash Pass on those days in order to make room for the mazes. I found that out the hard way a couple years ago. Also, Colossus backwards has always been a staple of Fright Fest but will be closed.
  23. Fright Fest starts on 9/27 so any day after that (Except for Monday 10/13 which isnt a Fright Fest day) will be busy. Generally speaking, the earlier in the month the better. The closer to Halloween, the busier it gets. As far as which days are busier, it is Saturday > Sunday > Friday.
  24. Ouch, yeah, why would a park go and do that? Well that would certainly tell other parks with a ZacSpin that it would be safe to reopen their rides. Good news I guess.
  25. Unconfirmed but multiple reports that Green Lantern has reopened at SFMM, I wonder if there's any news from Spain.
