^ Lets remember what park we're dealing with here. Half of Colossus has gone unused for years, Tatsu's second station only gets used a handful of times per year, X2's unloading station isn't used at all anymore. They rarely launch Superman trains with Lex gondolas, which would be pretty simple if they wanted to. They're not big on making the most of what they have even when they have it. I wouldn't hang any hopes on any kind of dueling, racing, or high capacity configuration. I'll just hope for something fun (which if it's RMC I have no doubt it will be no matter what it is) and I look forward to the possibility of YOLO being added to the general flash passes when this new ride opens and becomes a reservation upcharge. I don't think X2 will ever come off of the reservation system unless it's popularity declines significantly at some point, but after 12 years I just can't imagine that happening any time soon.

Just got back from the park, wow serious kudos to the park for retracking the first drop on Roar. They didn't go cheap on the work, they retracked the entire thing and it makes a huge difference. There's no pothole at all anymore, it's as smooth as Roar gets. The ride is quite enjoyable now, I think it's as close to it's original experience as you could expect it to be at this age. I got quite a bit more air time in the front row than usual too, I think as someone said above that might be due to not losing speed in the hole that used to be at the bottom of the first drop. Retracked first drop. (Photo taken through fence, I was not in a restricted area, in fact this was taken from outside of the park) Another look at the retracked first drop.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading about your CP visit, thanks for sharing! -
I was expecting a reply like this which is why I said "cheap and/or gimmicky". The 16-18 million Six Flags spent on X-Flight is far from frugal Then maybe you should have said "cheap and gimmicky" instead of "cheap and/or gimmicky" Not my favorite in the park, but I agree the gimmick doesn't take away from it, it's fun. Moreso in the back row.

I'm headed down to the park tomorrow morning. I heard from a non-TPR friend that a few months ago they retracked the bottom of the first drop of Roar and took that horrible pothole-like dip out, thought I'd go see for myself if it's actually an improvement. I didn't realize I haven't actually been to the park since last December...looking forward it. Thinking I might start my day with Kong for a change. No one else does that so I might get my own train. I've ridden it by myself once before and I thought it was actually a smoother ride.

Smoothest Coaster You've Ridden?

Well then I must be pretty lucky with no rattling in the back car. When did you last ride it? A few months ago. It's not terrible, they take great care of it. If you said it was smooth compared to other similarly aged coasters, Id be 100% on board. To say that a 90 year old wooden coaster is on par with the smoothness of a brand new steel coaster though I think is a little crazy. It's relatively smooth, just not one of the smoothest coasters out there. -
Hopefully that won't be the norm. It was the first time both venues were open at once so they'll probably get better operations (and remember CGA won't be open during Niners games). Additionally the reason CGA was so busy yesterday is that it was bring up to 4 friends for $15.99 day, and apparently just about every season pass holder obliged.

I had the exact same experience on Magnum, I was making the same face as that lady in the first row there. I also rode it at the end of a long day and Mean Streak had only 5 minutes earlier about given me a hernia so I was not in a good frame of mind going in. Next time I make my way out there I'm going to do Magnum early in the day. -
I am really concerned and curious at what is causing this now, especially as CGA had it's busiest day in at least a decade yesterday and they knew it would be..if they couldnt get it up for that, something is seriously wrong. Every single ride was using all switchbacks yesterday and all were spilling out the entrance. I'm guessing the wait for Grizzly topped 3 hours. Mind blowing to think waiting that long for that ride.

You should see a doctor, I think you've lost all feeling in your body. YOLOCoaster is a 10/10 on smoothness for sure in fact that's probably my winner followed closely by S:UF at SFDK (Both Premier coasters, worth noting) and Goliath is probably about an 8/10 but just seems smoother than it is compared to most of the other coasters at SFMM. You totally lose me at SCBB though. I *LOVE* the Giant Dipper, it was my first coaster and was my favorite woodie all my life until Gold Striker was built, but smooth it is not. It's not overly painful and it's in fantastic shape for a 90 year old roller coaster thanks to the fine folks in Santa Cruz, but I would not call it smooth at all, not that that makes me like it any less. -
There are exceptions such as a ride that I've never ridden before (especially if it's at a park I may not be back to for a long time) but generally anything posted at 60 minutes or more will make me walk away. In recent years I've been pretty spoled as at my home parks SFDK/CGA/SCBB I just show up when I know its not busy and when I go down to SFMM or KBF I always get the FP/FL pass to maximize my time. Having those options available (and single rider lines at SFMM) has definitely made me less tolerant of long waits. The only recent time I willingly got in a really long line was on my last visit to SFMM with a couple friends when YOLOCoaster was on one train operation. My friends really wanted to get a ride in on the back row since they never had and though the line was posted at 90 minutes we bit the bullet and got in line knowing that it wasn't getting any shorter and it'd be a while before we got back. Completely contrary to usual at SFMM the ops were actually doing a fantasic job and the wait ended up only being a little over an hour. Disney has always been somewhat of an exception too. They do such a great job with theming at Disney that I can tolerate much longer waits there. I had one trip to DLR in the past with a family member in a wheelchair where we skipped all the lines (and this was before people started doing it dishonestly) and I actually felt like I was missing part of the experience, especially on rides like the Jungle Cruise. Walking through the queue and looking at all the display items kind of gets you engrossed in the "world" of the ride and puts you in the right frame of mind. I wouldn't want a long wait either, but walking right onto all the rides felt kind of empty for me. At any SF/CP type park I'd love nothing more than all walk-ons.

I think it just has something to do with how much worse the OTSRs make it than it would be otherwise. If the ride is a 5 normally, it's a 1 with the OTSRs. Personally I've never had a chance to ride it without them and would really love to see how it is. Also although its not the most exciting or intense ride, without the OTSRs it might actually be a relaxing ride in a cool part of the park. Obviously right now it isn't.

You're nuts. The park has come a long way from those days. It's been far better since Cedar Fair took over. I think you might be just a little angry that Gold Striker is down, and I can't blame you there. I can't remember the last time that I heard it was down for an entire day since the opening. They know it's their premier attraction and it wouldn't still be down if there was any way to avoid it.

Loving this PTR, can't wait to read more! -
^ ^^ It does go down once in a while but its usually back up within an hour or two. Just look up at the station and see if there's anyone working on it. If theyre cycling trains, expect < 30 mins unless/until trains stop cycling. If you see employees riding, except < 15 mins unless/until trains stop cycling. Sometimes this is actually a good way to get a short wait on a busy day.

Seatbelts maybe, but the bars work fine on Shock Wave, Mind Bender, sooperdooperLooper, Montezooma's and Scorpion. Yeah unfortunately it's Six Flags policy now that any inverting coaster without OTSRs must have a seat belt, thats why they were added to YOLO, and apparently they consider the MCBR tilt on Goliath close enough to an inversion. I'd GLADLY trade those awful OTSRs for any seat belts they want to put in.
