  1. I seriously doubt it would be a Boomerang as well, but lets hypothetically say that it is: • The space of the former Vampire is available (even though they said the new coaster is going in GL's space) • Ed loved the Vampire, and the public did too until it started getting stuck • With the new trains and refurb going on with T2 and the refurb with the Wheel and Carousel, I would suspect he still has a relationship with Vekoma • Boomerangs do a helluva lot with a tiny space • GL was a shuttle as well as a Boomerang • Everybody knows that coaster enthusiasts can't get enough Boomerangs • There isn't another one around for hundreds of miles (Invertigo is different enough to fool the GP) • The ride is still made (brand-new ones in China in '12 and '13 according to rcdb.com) and the new trains are said to be better So, don't panic, kids. It's all for fun.
  2. That's my fault. I said they were "about" $7 Million. Probably closer to $6.2 Mill. Some of the older ones were in the $4-5 Mill range, but those were built over 10 years ago, so you figure the higher costs now for inflation and Quantitative Easing (QE3)
  3. You know, a Boomerang is about $7 million, they have the exact amount of room as before since the Skycoaster and Roadrunner are gone. Not saying it will happen, but it's entirely possible. EDIT: Here is another news article posted yesterday: http://www.wave3.com/story/22846458/shuttered-theme-park-now-showing-signs-of-life
  4. Thank you immensely for the beautiful photos. The are quite bittersweet, but at least it's being removed for something new in the park rather than a shopping mall.
  5. Went though my coaster apparel to locate this gem hanging in my closet. Shirt from 1999/2000
  6. ^ Would you be able to snap a few photos for us next time you're in the area?
  7. Demo pic on their Facebook page of the old "Goody Two shoes" candy building. It's near the Tin Lizzies, so I'm wondering if this was demolished due to being beyond repair or because it's in the way of the new coaster. www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=604013689632807&set=a.599973010036875.1073741827.150584424975738&type=1&theater
  8. A bit off topic.... Paula, do you know what percentage of your attendance use the waterpark? Are you able to make those figures available?
  9. He's wanting 800k the first year and that growing well past 1.2 Million annually. Waterparks rarely do that on their own, at least not in a seasonal midwest location Source: 2012 Theme Park Attendance
  10. A link to the parks official Facebook page and some photos of landscaping and a neat shot of a filled and operational wave pool: Mr. Hart and Dave Scharfenberg discuss the new water park expansion. We're wasting no time! This is a recent photo taken from the shores of Hurricane Bay…… you can almost hear the rolling waves of the BIG KAHUNA. Out with the OLD and IN WITH THE NEW! At last Thursday’s press conference, former park goodwill ambassador King Louie was on the prowl…making new friends, as always. Only time will tell if he eventually returns to the THRONE! Mr. Hart thanking the team and sharing the vision for the NEW Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay. Here's a group photo of the team that's been assembled during the accessment period. They all have all done a great job gathering information for Mr. Hart and preparing the park for last week's press conference.

  12. The Solar Powered Ferris Wheel is pretty cool. It's a shame that Solar Power in the United States only counts as 0.2% of energy.
  13. That is probably why Paramount is no longer in the theme park industry. Paramount are no longer in the industry because around 2004 or so, Paramount was sold to CBS, who had no real interest in running the parks, so they put them on the market. As a Ohioan, the only bad thing about having two large parks 4 hours away under the Cedar Fair umbrella is that when they build "big" rides, they alternate. Cedar point and "Paramounts" Kings Island would build stuff nearly every year—not that they competed that much (a little bit in certain markets, like Columbus for example, where I live), but each park was in a specific market that justified putting something new in at least every other year. I don't find it a coincidence one bit that that Kentucky Kingdom is trying to reopen in 2014 and we are seeing ground work going on at both Holiday World and Kings Island.
  14. One thing you see with Cedar Fair is that they try to keep rides running as long as possible. In addition to Orbit, Paramount was going to close the Skylab (Enterprise) at Canada's Wonderland and Move Kings Dominion's Flight of Fear to another park. Any other former troublesome Paramount rides were removed shortly after the acquisition. (Son of Beast—with more reasons of course, Tomb Raider, Hypersonic and The Flying Super Saturator)
  15. Glad he decided to add a day. I once did all 4 parks in one day, it was a January 3rd and the crowds were thinning out. It was also 2000, right after "Y2K", so many of the newer rides in Animal Kingdom weren't there yet. I was very selective, I only rode 2 or 3 rides in each park and started with Animal Kingdom since it opened first. I also used the bus/public transportation system... which wasted a bit of time since I was unfamiliar with some of the schedules and stops.
  16. Ask and ye shall receive. B&M Inverted Coaster Layout. Banshee Layout
  17. The cleaning up and rides running is encouraging. Not too scared about the numbered attractions.... yet, they match up to a inventory sheet composed a while ago. #8 Whirling Dervish/Breakdance #13 Bounty #14 Enterprise ...etc. Just staying optimistic ... and praying to God. Inventory
  18. Yes, but Kings Island's roots is Coney Island, which it's still proud of.
  19. I'm thinking that is in fact an old ad. It says the ride parks are in Texas. I wonder if they ever moved the ride parts to NM. Any locals know?
  20. 2014 coaster construction goodness from May 19th. Photos taken from the Eiffel Tower. Share and re-post of you'd like
  21. Camden Park removed their Caterpiller (Hot Cat) a few seasons ago as well. Delgrossos new "Swing Buggy" (Bezzatron Matterhorn) replaced the flying bobs, so they lost two rides as well.
  22. Actually, a good portion of it was rebuilt again in 1995. If this ride was ever moved or reopened (just being hopeful), they would have to replace 95% of the wood anyways.
  23. Extension granted: http://www.bizjournals.com/louisville/news/2013/04/25/fair-board-grants-hart-group-extension.html Fair board grants Hart group extension to get Kentucky Kingdom financing John R. Karman III As expected, the Kentucky State Fair Board at its Thursday meeting granted Louisville businessman Ed Hart and a group of investors an extension to finalize its financing in a bid to reopen the shuttered Kentucky Kingdom amusement park. The deadline for securing a financing package and completing a lease agreement between Hart’s group and the fair board had been April 27, but the board moved that date to June 27. Dr. Mark Lynn, the board's chairman, told reporters following the meeting that he has every confidence that a deal to reopen the amusement park will finally come to fruition. “Everybody wants this to succeed,” he said. “If this doesn’t happen, I will be shocked.” Hart’s plan to reopen Kentucky Kingdom had called for he and his investment group to contribute $20 million in equity and secure a $25 million bank loan. Lynn told the fair board today that the group was unable to get approved for the full $25 million and instead settled for a $15 million bank loan. The $10 million shortfall is being filled by what Lynn called a “special investor financing group.” He declined to elaborate on the make up of that group. Lynn said the latest delay in the Kentucky Kingdom project does not jeopardize a planned opening in May 2014. The amusement park closed in 2009 and never reopened after previous owner Six Flags Inc. walked away from its lease agreement with the fair board the following year. Hart, a previous Kentucky Kingdom owner, has launched several unsuccessful attempts to get the park reopened. His latest venture is through a partnership called Kentucky Kingdom LLLP that includes Bruce Lunsford, his partner in Hart-Lunsford Pictures LLC; Ed Glasscock, chairman emeritus of Frost Brown Todd LLC law firm; and the Al J. Schneider Co., led by president Mary Moseley.
  24. This is still a good video example of the direction they went in and what I believe they would want to do again. I'm sure many of you have seen it, but if you haven't, here it is again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MEpeyqjV1Y
