Robb & Elissa go to Park City, Utah!
Billy Shears replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'd like to know where you heard SFoG was removing their log flume. It certainly was still there at the tail end of last year... -
Has this ever happened to you?

I had a ride on Georgia Cyclone that was pretty terrible. It was the end of the day and there was no line, so I decided to give it one more shot (having a rough time earlier that day), and, well, I'm glad it was the last ride of the day. The ride has seat belts and single lap bars, and my lap bar only ratched down a couple clicks! I yelled at the ride op to either fix it or let me switch seats, and she basically shrugged and said "yeah, you're fine." I took her word for it. Now, I'm kind of a skinny twig, so... it was an interesting ride, to say the least. Thankfully, the years have not been kind to GC, and the ride doesn't have much airtime anymore. However, it was by far the roughest ride I've ever had on a coaster (excepting possibly Ninja). You are not meant to move around that much on any ride, ever. And when there was airtime... my poor crotch. Anyways, I left that park wishing I'd had the balls to ask for a free pass or something from that op. Seriously, that was rough, and I deserved compensation! -
Yeah, I'm saving the Rocky Mountain track as a next decade achievement, because if that makeover works (and turns out to be not too expensive - I haven't seen the figures, though I suppose it'd be more pricey for the TG than for a smaller woodie), I could see a lot of parks revitalizing their woodies that way.

Best and Lamest Coaster "Ending"

Oh my god, new worst: SFOG's Mind Bender this year. I didn't think it was possible to have a more forceful stop than GASM's. It stops so hard on the brakes that the back car isn't even on the brake track, and they fully stop not even 25% of the way down the brakes (this is on a two-train ride - not like they need room for a third). -
Glasses strap is totally the way to go here. I've always used them, and I can't even imagine riding anything blind. Just make sure it's pretty tight and you'll be fine (and maybe carry a backup pair, just in case ) I never even get questioned about it by attendants at Six Flags Over GA, nor was anything said to me on my recent vacation to Busch Gardens Williamsburg, but the couple times I've been asked to take off my glasses at other parks (usually on rides with OTSRs where the strap is hidden), I've just said that I had a strap on and they were fine with it.

NL-Ripley's Thunderbolt

The main problem with the ride is that it loses a _lot_ of its speed towards the end of it. If you could speed the ride up- in general, really, it could probably be faster and still pull good G's- it would be awesome. -
Getting stuck on a ride!

Georgia Scorcher has refused to release its restraints on me twice (we got to go again each time ). -
This. http://www.rcdb.com/ig41.htm?picture=3 That last hop is a nice trick

Great TP! Does a POV of Powder Keg exist? It looks so awesome, but I can't find one on YouTube... -
You are aware Wikipedia is staffed by thousands of administrations and millions of people with no lives who will change the page as soon as any vandalism happens and any facts with no source will be tagged as such, right? Meaning ANYBODY can edit the articles with false information and get their edits removed immediately.

B&M coasters are some of the most reliable and safe roller coasters out there, and do restraints get stuck...I'm sure it happens once in a blue moon but I have never seen a B&M restraint not unlock in the station when supposed to. Two words: Georgia. Scorcher. I've been on that ride about five times. On at least two of these occasions, the restraints have been stuck in station (free ride!). Maybe it's just on stand-ups or something, but it's not uncommon, as far as I can see.

The Hills[NL]

This was actually pretty cool. It had suprisingly decent G's, but chassis hits were more like "hey, where did the train go" hits. I think if you spent some time on it, it would be a really cool little ride. Maybe made it a bit bigger (a powered launch, maybe?) and, of course, smoothed out the transitions (first drop = deaaath), it would be fun. -

Eh, the best theme park-based book hands down is Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom, and it's completely free (Cory Doctrow is a cool dude): Google books. Set in the future, where company-like groups have taken over sections of the Magic Kingdom. I ended up buying it because it's so great. There's a ton more formats if you want to read it on a PDA or something here. -
SFoG Questions
Billy Shears replied to Adrenaline_Rush's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Is the park normally open in January? (I checked the site and it said to be determined) Nope. Does it normally snow in Georgia during January? (I really want to see snow) It never snows in Georgia. Ever. Well, kind of. But it's doubtful. What are the prices of the Q-Bots for 4 people, and are they worth it? A million billion jillion dollars, and by that I mean a lot, and no. Does Georgia Scorcher hurt for a guy? Nope, as long as your feet are touching the ground when the restraints lock. If not... good luck! What would you recommend riding first due to long lines? Goliath and Superman Are there any good rides that a parent with a bad-back could ride? (i.e. like Cat in the Hat in IOA) Sadly, SFOG doesn't have many small rides... but maybe. Whats a good hotel to stay in? (includes price, comfort, closeness to park) No idea Is Superman:UF uncomfortable in the seats? Nope, it's snug and secure. -

A tilt coaster does sound like something Disney would do. I vote for that, but I'm not sure if the waterfall thing is such a good idea. Try adding more rocks at the bottom of the waterfall to make it more realistic. -
The a cappela version of the theme song on I <3 Katamari's soundtrack is amazing!

What's with all the hate with Scream Machine and Cyclone? Scream Machine has massive airtime, and while Cyclone doesn't have that much it's still a fun ride. I haven't gotten the courage to do Goliath yet, but I hope I'll do it when I go in a few weeks. I was going to ride Acrophobia, but with the problems at SFKK...
