  1. I bet you'll be able to get it down to $30 after discounts. Maybe even $20 for locals.
  2. Fact check, since you didn't post any sources or real figures. Twice as much as 3 is 6, you are correct. Yes... that certainly sounds bad. Until you find out that Croatia and Lithuania actually have really low rates and that ANY nation compared to the best looks bad. Our 6 deaths per 1,000 can certainly be better, but the world average is 50 deaths per 1,000. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_infant_mortality_rate
  3. There is an article now in the Independent about what is really going on in Dubai. http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/johann-hari/the-dark-side-of-dubai-1664368.html This is a really, REALLY long article about Dubai and the culture and people there. While it isn't about theme parks specifically, it does talk a lot about the tourism there and how all those attractions and skyscrapers are built. I'll only quote a section of it, you should really read the whole thing. It's pretty depressing. It really makes you think twice about all the theme park companies getting involved there.
  4. I guess what he doesn't realize is that pretty much all digital cameras take pictures MUCH better than "HD". HD is just the minimum number of pixels in a single frame of film (counted vertically, I believe). 720 is the minimum pixel count and is what you get in televisions (some go up to 1080). Its a big deal in televisions and video because it is a lot higher resolution than you could get before. However, digital cameras can take MUCH better pictures than any HD Camcorder. For instance, this low end Canon: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=2571&modelid=17474#ModelTechSpecsAct Can take pictures up to a resolution of 3,648 x 2,736 pixels. Good ones can do even more pixels. 2,736 vs. 720. So his camcorder may take impressive VIDEO and these shots are much better than any standard resolution video camera still shots, but the still photos are just sub par when comparing to a real still camera. It's all moot anyway, though. Since he compressed the photos as JPGs and scaled them down to about 780 x 580 to put them here.
  5. It's a lamp. As seen in this picture: http://pointbuzz.com/Photos/Photo.aspx?id=556 You can see another one in front of Coasters in your picture too.
  6. It looks like part of Twister's queue is also gone.
  7. Ah hem. Saying that "creditors don't give a rat's tail about amusement parks" is incredibly short-sighted. They do care, or they wouldn't have invested in the company in the first place. Chapter 11 would allow Six Flags to get rid of their crushing debt (the only thing that is really wrong with the company right now, revenues and other expenses are good) and creditors would get a significant stake in the restructured company. To make the most money, it makes the most sense for creditors to be interested in Six Flags as a going concern. Chapter 7, on the other hand, would be a quick liquidation of the assets at far less than they are worth (current book value is $3 billion now... but think pennies on the dollar if they had to be sold). Creditors would be out a lot of money in that situation. Six Flags doesn't have any fundamental operations problems (revenues exceed expenses, still plenty of customers, etc.) so a Chapter 11 plan (or even a plan that would avoid bankruptcy) to reduce the debt but keep running is most likely.
  8. Disney could do it. Magic Kingdom hours during busy seasons are already something crazy like 8am - 2am. They have enough staffing too, to keep people from working too many hours. The only issue would be the lack of overnight maintenance and inspections. I guess they would just have rotating down nights for certain lands or attractions.
  9. Yes, I think they would sell to developers if someone was willing to buy, but since Geauga Lake hasn't found any buyers, I think they would be more likely to find a person who wants to run a park. No one is building right now, any deal for a amusement park is going to come from another park company.
  10. Yes. Sorry that wasn't quite clear. GA is on the block because they have a VERY interested buyer. As for Michigan's Adventure, remember that it is the park with the company's largest attendance growth rate year to year. EDIT: Full disclosure, I own 50 shares of FUN
  11. Not likely. It was a great buy then and it still is a solid investment today. Notice that none of the Paramount Parks are at risk of being sold.
  12. I wonder how transferring trains will work? Are there drive tires on that turn so they can back trains up from the station and into the transfer area (like most B&Ms do), or will they have to send the train around the full circuit?
  13. I was there at the end of June. The height of the rainy season. It was wet all day but they kept running everything (except Dodonpa, which I rode at the very start of the day). It also wasn't very busy, the longest lines were never more than 30 minutes (even with single train op). You guys must be really unlucky. Although I did see that operations could have been horrible if the park was any busier... it took forever to load and check trains, nothing closed down for good because of the weather.
  14. Start sending an EECB (Executive Email Carpet Bomb): http://consumerist.com/consumer/complaint-letters/how-to-launch-an-executive-email-carpet-bomb-259713.php You should also submit that story to the above website, a huge consumer advocacy blog. You're sure to get a response when it gets posted there. Whatever you do, don't let it die until you are satisfied.
  15. Consider also that 4 seconds is a lot longer than you think it is. Watch a few videos of a launch and it takes 4 seconds to get all the way down that track.
  16. I love that the sign still says Time Warner.
  17. I was there once, but I was so young I can hardly remember. I remember a train, riding the log flume and the boat ride. I found this website a little while ago: http://www.boblosteamers.com/bobloislandindex13.html It has some nice pictures of the current state of the island. Including the sky tower which is still there. Speaking of parks in Michigan, about a year ago I found this website: http://www.waterwinterwonderland.com/amusement.asp which has some great information about all the parks Michigan used to have. Autoworld, Electric Park, Edgewater Park, Walled Lake Park, Jefferson Beach, etc. Going through all of that, the one thing that was the same in all the parks' stories was the reason they closed: They just couldn't compete with a little place called Cedar Point.
  18. No, because the slides are designed for people to fall out of them. I think it was someone who claimed they went all the way to the top of the funnel.
  19. I dont understand... why are there brakes on the loop?
  20. Make sure you don't have any add-ons enabled that might be doing that. Did you download any kind of Theme Parks layer that added information/locations/borders of the parks? I had one of those once that did overlays of all the parks. I've lost it now, but if you still have it and it wasn't updated it might be broken and blocking your view.
  21. Kittens out of the bag? Cats out of the bag. Kittens = kids of cats. Kiddy rides. "On track" = coaster. Beaver Land Mine ride is available. New kiddy rides with a new kiddy coaster, themed to the new Nick stuff they have all placed at.... wait for it... the Stadium/Peanuts Playground area.
  22. Yes, that is a photo of the monorail. X-flight's station is gone.
  23. I dont know... if she is always being asked to put it in a bin, it sounds like Cedar Point is on top of things and has consistent enforcement.
  24. You mean the NAME of the city the park is in? Gilroy, CA? That "generic" corporate engrish?
