Video TR: My Life Without TPR...
Costakid replied to Ryan King's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Haha, good stuff. Reminds me of the movies my friends and I used to make. Add a go-kart, murder scenes, and a trampoline, and you will get my movies almost exactly. Those were good times. Actually, I'm kind of inspired, a bit scared, but inspired none the less. *Runs to get the videocamera* -
The ride will sit untill the land it is on is needed, I think that can be agreed upon by most. However, what happens from there? As others have said, it is one of a kind, so will it be carefully taken apart and put into storage until a proper home has been established? The flip side from that argument is that there hasn't been a clamoring for parks to contact Intamin for a ride of this type, so there isn't going to be a huge market for this coaster to be sold, so would MM just cut their losses and tear it down and scrap it? Photo TR--My Disneyland Grad Nite
Costakid replied to arrowfanman's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Wow, your Grad Night was crowded. We didn't wait more than 5 minutes for anything. It doesn't matter, though, since very little of it is about the rides. -
Just got back from my Grad Night at Disneyland. No photos as I didn't want to worry about my camera. Anway, here goes. We got into Disneyland about 11:30pm, and they dropped the ropes to Tommorow land shortly after. Our small group decided to look like idiots and make a break for Space Mountain. We ended up getting on the 3rd train out. "Rock It" mountain was good. This was a my second ride on the new Space Mountain, but my first on "Rock It" mountain. We were all digging the music they were playing, but I still miss the Dick Dale soundtrack. For Grad Night, they injected new intro audio, congradulating the Class of 06 and such. Still my favorite ride at Disneyland. On our way out of Tommorow Land, we rode Buzz and Star Tours. Star Tours is still a classic, a bit outdated, and only good for one ride, but a fun ride to make fun of. We had a lot of fun on Buzz, although we all sucked. We then made our way to Peter Pan, Mr. Toad, and Tea Cups. All very nostalgic rides. The train thing on Mr. Toad still gets me. We caught up with another group of friends and headed to Big Thunder. Our train got to the beggining of the first lift, and stopped. It turns out that someone was trying to highfive a person on another train whilst on the station platform. The ride-op stopped the ride, and then the computer wouldn't let them restart the ride. We walked out of the ride and went to Splash Mountain. Still a great ride. Next, we wandered over to Indiana Jones, but it broke down before we could get on the ride. We got some food and ate it on the Jungle Cruise. We got a pretty good skipper, who made some good jokes, and even pulled of a Broke Back Mountain joke. We all wanted to ride SM and Buzz again, so we headed over to Tommorow Land. We hit Buzz, and walked toward Space Mountain. We got some drinks, and fooled around with the water ball thing in the plaza. Then came the highlight of the night. I told my friend Byrant I would buy him a churro if he could jump and slide over top of the giant water ball in the plaza. The first time, he got a large running start, and didn't get much of a jump. He hit the ball and bounced back off of it. He tried again, and did the same thing, only he fell down this time. At this point, everyone is laughing their asses of. We decided to get the ball rolling and then he would jump on top and ride the ball over the top. Well he did it, and it was the funniest thing ever, he did it twice, and he earned his churro. We hit SM, and hit Autopia. It is so great if you don't stear and let the car just jump around all over the track. We walked back to the end of Tommorow land and decided to ride the Astro Orbiter. This was the suprise ride of the night. It was really fun, with a fun, relaxing ride at the top of the cycle (it was misting/raining all night, but just enough to keep you cool) and some fun forces at the bottom. We then headed to the Matterhorn, which was only running the Submarine side. An incredibly rough ride, but I love the pop of airtime on that side, and the ride is pretty fun. We did the Alice in Wonderland ride, and the Tea Cups once more. Then we hit BTM, and Indiana Jones, and were able to get on both with no problems. We got some more food and ate it, again, on Jungle Cruise. We had the same skipper, and my friend got a sticker from the skipper for having a decent comeback. He didn't use all of the same jokes, but my favorite is still the "extremely tall leopards". We sat down for a while with another group of friends, and hit Space Mountain, Buzz, and Astro Oriber (x2). As well, Bryant rolled over the ball again, which I got video of on my phone. I'll post the video here when I figure out how to e-mail it off my phone. Then, the girls wanted to dance, so we walked on the main stage thing. The girls danced, and we stood around and talked for a few minutes, and decided to go back to SM and Buzz again. We did Buzz 3 times in a row, and 3 of us were able to break 200,000. Then, we did SM 3 times in a row. We all did Astro Orbiter one final time, and walked out to the buss. At this point, I had been up for more than 24 hours, and after sitting on the buss for a few minutes, I felt the full effects of that. The buss left DL at about 6:15, and we got back to the school about 7:30. Overall, we all had a great time. Fooling around with friends, no lines, and good rides makes for a good night.

Favorite Photos YOU Have Taken

Here are a few I like Cool perspective A personal favorite of mine Took this one as I was walking by -
Thanks. I'm pretty much a master of the fast pass system by now. Are any of the fast passes disconnected from the others? Ala Grizzly Rapids at DCA? As well, would it be possible to do IOA and Universal in one day and not miss anything?

I will be in Orlando from June 28th through July 3rd, and have 5 full days to visit parks. I just have a few questions: 1. Which hotels are best? Centrally located, relatively cheap, easy access to parks or transportation to parks, perks at parks (IE Early entry @ WDW parks). Right now, the hotel I'm looking at is Port Orleans. It's in my price range and got good reviews on Trip Advisor. 2. As I only have 5 days, which parks should I cram into my schedule? I'm willing to have a bit of a hectic schedule, but I would prefer a bit of a leisurely trip. 3. What shouldn't I miss? Ride wise, food wise, experience wise, all that good stuff. 4. Crowds? It is early summer, so I wouldn't expect the crowds to be too hot n' heavy, but I don't know for sure. 5. How long does it take to get from Jacksonville to Orlando? I'll be in Jacksonville for 3 days before being in Orlando, so any advice about things to do there will be helpful as well. Thank you in advance. Have a great day!

I'm not too worried about their being a lack of e-ticket attractions being installed. My view is that they are looking to install 'Goliaths' only when needed, which will leave a few parks without a new high-dollar scream machine for a while. I'm willing to part with a few high budget attractions if the result is that the park will be better maintained, though. I'm interested to see how they deal with MM's situation. I don't know if they will get the attendance boost by adding family rides, as it's proximity to Disneyland will present some stiff competition. Sure, cleaning the park up and fixing ride operations will help, but that isn't very marketable: "Come to Magic Mountain! Now with 90% less trash!". It will be a very slow process to change SF's image, but I'm looking forward to it.

New Mexico Rattler has an extremely fast lift hill and chucks you over that awesome first drop. -
Would you rather go to a smaller park?
Costakid replied to coasterdude5's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
To me, it doesn't matter what size the park is, or what rides they have, the best parks are all about atmosphere *cough*Kennywood*cough*, so for me, it is all on a park by park basis for me. -

YEAR END CLIFF'S AMUSEMENT PARK PHOTO TR EXTRAVAGANZA
Costakid replied to crispy's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Nice Pics, makes me want to drive back to Albuquerque and visit Cliff's again. Sigh, good times at Cliff's, and Albuquerque in general. Not much beats Rattler's first drop in the back. Even more so after the ride has warmed up a bit (this thing kicks some serious arse later on in the day). -
Six Flags Ultimato
Costakid replied to coasterfreak101's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Unfortunatly, there isn't much you can do to an in-game scenario. I would personaly just start over, and take screenies of the things you like, and re-build them in the new scenario. In the scenario editor, I would suggest using the advanced scenery select, and select each scenery piece yourself. If you like, I have a scenario that is pretty much all custom pieces, and I could give it to you, and in doing so, you would have a custom scenario to start with, and a bit of custom scenery. The best way to get custom scenery is to download parks that already contain it, so I would go over to www.nedesigns.com and download some spotlights and runner-ups. Not only will you amass a large amount of custom scenery, you will draw inspiration from the parks. However, don't go out and expect to build like the guys at New Element. They are some of the best parkmakers in the community. Start small and simple, then build your way up. I would suggest DL'ing the Pro Tour scenery from New Element and using that. It is the one of the best scenery sets available. I use most of the Pro Tour stuff, and hand pick some item that I want. Picking what you want by hand is extremely time consuming, but when your done, it helps a lot, especialy if you know what your park needs before hand (scenery wise). One more thing: did it sound like I was rambling? I think so, but I'm way too lazy to read over it. -
Six Flags Ultimato
Costakid replied to coasterfreak101's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
I'm going to preface my preface here, so here goes. I usually don't browse any forum regarding RCT2 or 3 only because I'm tempted to tell someone how to fix their park, or what is wrong with it. This is because I'm anal retentive, and a perfectionist, and when ever I get anything decent RCT wise, I find a flaw with it and re-do it. So, don't take what I have to say to be anything mean, nor am I trying to tell you how make you park. That being said, I have some suggestions that, IMO, will only help your park: 1. First off, the orange water looks pretty bad. 2. Try to keep your stations lifted off the ground, or if you can't change it being at ground level, lower the ground beneath it and build a floor. 3. Your buildings are too blocky. Try to set different layers and out shootings. Spice it up a bit. Try balconies, towers, curves, angles, ect. Try stuff and see what works. The more you tinker with it, the better you will get. Look at real-life parks or buildings for inspiration. 4. Color choices. You don't have to pick colors that necisarilly go together, but you have to make them work. One example that pops out in my mind is the Nitrous station. The colors are all over the place. Coordinate, pick a few colors (with stations, I like to stick to 3) and stay with them. Paths associated with the buildings should also be coordinated with the buildings. 5. Coaster layouts. I don't realy like straying too far beyond the "realistic" realm, so I only build realistic layouts for my rides. Most of your rides aren't too bad layout wise, but some need some help. With Nitrous, I find the vertical drop perfectly acceptable, but the vertical climb after it is not. With such a long train, and with the limits of RCT, the real G-Forces while cresting that vertical hill would be too high to pass saftey regulations. The G-Force readouts on RCT don't realy do this justice because of the limitations. I like the wooden coaster layout. Simple out n' back. It may be a bit long, but when has that been a bad thing? 6. This is just a personal preferance, but I like to build my park starting from the entrance, and moving outward. Also, I build one area at a time, say building Gotham City first, complete with buildings and flat rides, then advance to my next section. This is my personal preferance, but I suggest giving it a try and seeing if you like it better. 7. Shops/Stalls: Putting shops and stalls by themselves out in the open isn't very realisitc. A few here and there are found in themeparks, with the occational food stand, but for the most part, I would put them in a restuarant or somthing of the sort. 8. Trees: Around the station of "The Journey" you have a lot of trees. Now this isn't bad, but they are all bunched together too tight. Just spread them out randomly throughout the area you want them in. As well, the trees you use together should be similar. Palm trees and oak trees don't grow in the same area. Finaly, don't make blocks of one type of tree; Mix them all together randomly, with random spaces where there are no trees. Remeber, these are all just suggestions. Feel free to use or not use any of them. The best advice I can give is just to keep working at it. Practice makes perfect. I left this for last, as it doesn't apply to this park. I STRONGLY suggest having a master plan before building a new park. At least have a basic idea of themed areas, what will be in those areas, ect. Once again, just constructive critisism, so take it with a grain of salt. -

Best and Lamest Coaster "Ending"
Costakid replied to Teddymonster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Good: Phantom's Revenge: Out of your seat until the brakes. Riddler's Revenge: It's ok, but that second flatspin is just devine. Matterhorn: Classic lakey goodness. Bad: X: That raven turn sucks! Canyon Blaster @ MM: If you not ready for it, the post banking on the turn into the station can break one of your ribs. -
I've always understood "hyper" to be anything over 200', regarless of inversions, or track type, but that is beyond the point (and quite frankly, it not that important). The point is, SFoG possibly could have a kick ass ride on their hands. Initially I was dissapointed at the "small" first drop, but the layout looks decent enough to compensate, that is, as others have mentioned, if the airtime is good enough. I'll be sure to stop by next year.

I seriously enjoyed XK-1. Nice pics, I haven't seen too many pics of the Flight Trainers.

California Parks Christmas Week
Costakid replied to danandjackie's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
KBF: I went to Knott's on the 23rd last year and it was pretty slow. Still enough people to make Ghostrider's fill up the top switchbacks, and Silver Bullet's line to get down to the bottom of the stairs, but that was as long as it got. After Christmas is exponentially worse, so I would look into going before Christmas if you can, but hopefully you get some luck. Get on Ghostrider early. It still seems to be the most popular ride in the park, and the crew (when I was their last) realy sucked. Silver Bullet (if running 2 trains) can chew through some people, but it can ammase some long lines, so I'm not sure what to expect there. Xcelerator is, IMO, still the best ride there, so try to get on that as much as possible. My personal fav is the back, just for the wicked airtime coming of the top hat and continuing through the veritcal twist. Quite a bit will depend on how many trains are being run on each coaster, so hopefully you'll hit some luck there. I don't know what the maitenence schedules are, so maybe some one can help you out with that one. For Disney, learn all the little fast pass tricks. My sister and I went on one of the buisiest days of Spring Break and were able to do both parks by taking advantage of the fast-pass tricks. We were able to get on everything we wanted to at both parks, and do a few choice rides a few more times. Get their extremely early. We waited for about 30-40 minutes just to get out car into the parking garage, and we didn't get into the park until 40 minutes after the park opened, but if you get a hotel in the Disney complex ,you won't need to worry about that. For SFMM, get there early as well. You might opt for some FastPass tickets, and due to the time you are going, I would suggest some. Most of them just take you through the exit of the ride. Which rides use FastPass adjust from day to day, take a look at what rides will be using it when you arrive. When you arrive early, head to the back of the park. On a buisy summer day, I was able to walk on to the front or the back of every ride in the back of the park, twice. However, you might find an urge to ride the POS known as X right out of the gate. This is fine, but make sure the ride opens with the park, because I have personaly never seen it open with the park, and after your ride, head to the back of the park. Last I was their, the back of the park had almost no lines up untill 12:00 while the front of the park had 1:00-1:30 lines. I don't know about you, but I won't wait 1:00 for Viper. The lines will even out later in the day anyway, and I was able to get onto the front of X and Viper that day in very good time. There isn't much more to ride other than coasters, and it will probably be decently cool, so the water rides won't be enticing, but I love to take a spin on the Granny Grand Prix while I'm there. I haven't been to Universal in a LONG time, so some one else can help you out on that one.
