Proslides two new waterslide concepts
robbalvey replied to VelikiBrat's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
They explained the Saucer part to me as a way to get perfect banking and speed out of the raft. So I guess as the raft goes flying around it, the rest of the saucer is used to collect the water or something. I dunno, I'm not a water ride designer (and neither are the rest of us) but I have a feeling they wouldn't be making a ride more expensive by using more materials if they didn't need to, because no park would buy into that. So I think it's safe to assume the ride payoff is worth it. -

Last-minute Line Advice?
robbalvey replied to certifiedcoastergeek's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My advice to you, and please seriously consider this... However you can do it, make Fast Lane Plus happen. On one of the days. It will just make your day that much better. Especially in case if there is weather delays, a ride might break down etc... As your first visit to the Point, make it awesome. Figure out a way to get the money. Sell a kidney or a relative you don't like! lol Seriously, though, really consider it if you can do. I cannot stress or recommend this enough. -

Looking to buy a house in the Orlando area
robbalvey replied to Coaster Art Guy's topic in Ask Alvey
I will respond more to this later, but I'm not a fan of Davenport. I know a lot of people have found great deals out there, and there are some really nice houses. But.... If you're looking for the "Orlando experience" that's not in Davenport. When we moved to Orlando, keeping in mind it wasn't for a vacation home, but a "home home" we wanted to be right in the heart of everything. We are less than 10 minutes away from all the different park properties and minutes away from everything else (I-Drive, 192, etc...) To me, Davenport is the "cheap way" of doing Orlando, and at the end of the day, you might end up with a nice house there, but when you come back from the parks or are doing something on a non-park day, you're in Davenport which doesn't have that much to offer. I would look more into the Kissimmee area for some of those vacation homes, especially if you end up buying one and then renting it out for the times you're not here. They are more expensive, but I think the trade-off is worth it. There are some GREAT companies (All Star Rentals, etc) that can also help you... -

Hey, it got the Alvey seal of approval. Everyone has to be on-board now. Now hang on a second here... Just because I said I have liked *ONE* B&M Dive Machine (and it's clones), isn't necessarily the "Alvey seal of approval." I will say that I have much better hope for a B&M Dive Machine to be something cool versus my initial thoughts on Gatekeeper. That being said, would I rather it be some sort of crazy RMC re-do of Mean Streak or a "WTF is that crazy thing" Intamin that we knew nothing about? You bet. But the way things are lining up, I'd be "ok" to "pleasantly happy" with a Dive Machine if it's on par or better than SheiKra. That's all I said. -

If there is one thing I know is that the general public loves them. Every time we post a video of one it gets a ton of views, more than if we just posted a fairly standard wood or steel coaster. People see the car hanging off the top of the drop, paused before it falls and they are all "nope!" To many, that's even more frightening than TTD's height! -

THIS! Most people probably know by now I'm not a huge fan of B&Ms over the past ten years. I've probably come really close to riding every single one of them, and only a handful have impressed me from about 2002 onwards. I will say though, I very much enjoyed SheiKra and it's two Chinese clones quite a bit, and they were some of the B&Ms that have impressed me, so if they can create a Dive Machine that tops that one, I think they'd have a huge hit on their hands. On the other hand, I wasn't that big of a fan of Griffon. I felt that it's "let's do the exact same ride twice in a row" thing left a lot to be desired, IMO. -

Sorry, but you said GCI in your statement there. You must have meant someone else. EDIT: Oh, I see. You said "GOOD" not "GREAT" or "OMFG AWESOME!" I retract my statement. GCI does make "GOOD" wooden roller coasters. -

Ryan (that's me) and Laura go to Japan
robbalvey replied to Mrlittle's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Great first start to the report! I always say, if there is a major coaster at Tokyo Disneyland to miss out on, Space Mountain is one of the better ones, and here's why - it's pretty much exactly the same ride (sans the music) as Space Mountain in California and at Hong Kong. Tokyo Disney always has a major ride shut down as they are constantly doing maintenance, and I've heard of people going when totally unique rides like Journey or Pooh are down, and I think that would be a real bummer. Sad you guys missed it, but like you said, now you have more than one reason to go back! -

Let me make one thing perfectly clear. Saying that you have information, but you can't talk about the information makes you look like an incredible asshole. All you're trying to do is brag that you have some sort of "information" - well guess what, let me know enlighten you - nobody cares. You're not any better than anyone else. In the history of the world, absolutely nobody has received more blow jobs for saying they have some sort of inside information at an amusement park. Because nobody cares. And besides, those who know, don't tell, and those who tell, well... you can figure the rest out... -

These two things! Right here will save you HOURS in line. Great advice! I can't tell you how many times I've heard people bitch and complain how they weren't able to do anything at HHN and I ask them "when do you get to the event?" and they'll tell me "Oh, like an hour or so after it opened..." Well, DUH!!!! If you're not doing the Stay & Scream, you HAVE to be one of the first in line. And yes, you might be waiting an extra hour or maybe two on the front end for the event to open, but that will save you so many more hours on the back end! Listen to this dude, HTF. He knows what he's talking about.

West Coast Bash 2015!
robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
In all seriousness I would absolutely love that. We actually discussed this a few years ago! The reality is that the kitchen areas are just so small that it would have to be a very limited amount of people. I think it's something we may actually pick up off the table again in a future event and maybe do a raffle for it. But seriously, I think that would be a cool tour! -
