  1. I received the survey as well. Considering that I live in the Bay Area and got my season pass at Discovery Kingdom, I'd say that Six Flags is sending it to all season pass holders, not just those who call Magic Mountain their home park. It was indeed aimed at families, though it was tough for me to answer the questions, considering that my kids are 1 and 2 years old. Not exactly the age to be able to fully enjoy theme parks.
  2. I'll confirm what singemfrc said, the ride does indeed take single riders. I've done it many times, and it's a great time saver. Like singemfrc said, they only take single riders if the line is long, and, additionally, if there are empty seats. If it's a long line and they're taking single riders, but every group ahead of you consists of an even number of riders, then that's bad luck and they won't request single riders. However, the chances of a long line and no empty seats is slim. Just stand in line and keep your eyes on the door. The second a ride op comes out and requests a single rider, hold up your hand and identify yourself. I've gotten multiple rides before the person I originally queued behind even got on. It's a definite perk to being alone at the park. Have fun!
  3. If you can hold off until after the summer, then that's the best way to beat the crowds. Sundays in September are pretty manageable, with Sundays in October being even better (just be sure to check the calendar for special events, which can drive up crowds substantially). The best, though, is to go on Sundays during Winter in the Park (December). As long as it's not during the week of Christmas/New Year, then you should have a ghost town of a park all to yourself. I personally will likely not go to the park until after Labor Day. I'd rather wait through the summer and have the park to myself than go during summer and wait in long lines all day.
  4. When you get to the entrance of the queue, hang on real tight to the railing, then quickly turn around and leave. QFT.
  5. I went to the park last Thursday. I got my first ever ride on GL, and I'm scared to ride it again. I never really understood the problem everyone had with the ride. I thought that people didn't like it because it didn't flip enough and was boring. However, after riding it once, I understand completely why everyone hates it. As others have before me, I entered the final drip/brake run completely upside down. Slamming into the restraints wasn't the worst part for me. For me, the worst part was this horrible rush of blood to my head. I see why nobody wants to ride GL. I certainly don't.
  6. I voted YOLO for a couple of reasons. First, I'm unlikely to ride GateKeeper any time soon, while I will most certainly ride Full Throttle sometime in the next few years. Second, while GateKeeper is an absolutely gorgeous looking ride (so graceful and imposing looking), I can't imagine it being terribly forceful or dynamic. Full Throttle, on the other hand, has the potential for some respectable forces (I have, perhaps naively, high hopes for good airtime on that top hat). I'd rather have a short ride that puts butterflies in my stomach than a long ride that I could sleep on.
  7. Also the double rides on all coasters is for all guests all opening weekend long: The double rides is a nice added bonus for everyone to enjoy! I didn't realize that this promotion was happening. I wasn't originally planning on going opening weekend, but I just might have to head to SFDK this Sunday for a few hours...
  8. ^Yeah, the two maneuvers are essentially the same (half twist until upside down, half loop out). It all depends on what the manufacturer decides to call it. Whatever it's called, I like it!
  9. ^That's exactly what I thought upon first seeing the element. This is a good thing. Storm Runner's Flying Snake Dive is very disorienting, hard to tell which direction you're heading when you exit the inversion. There are already 3 dive loops in the park, so I'm pleased to see a different take on it.
  10. I won't be in town during opening weekend. Even if I was in town, I probably wouldn't go. There are definitely less crowded times to visit than opening weekend.
  11. This would make a fantastic MythBusters episode... I've got one from Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. This is a rumor I heard from many people after Superman: Ultimate Flight stalled right before the heartline roll. I've heard many guests, on many different occasions, say that the train stalled out upside down in the heartline roll. Of course, it's easily verifiable and debunked, but I had dispel that myth for quite a few worried people.
  12. You should contact Cedar Point. If they get enough interest in the trains, then they'll see that there is potential profit there, and they will be more inclined to order them. If nobody shows interest, then they won't want to spend money on a product that they think nobody will buy (resulting in a revenue loss). Contact Cedar Point and let them know that you would want to buy a train if they got them.
  13. ^That photo is of a prototype that they made for Cedar Point. They won't mass-produce it unless CP orders them, and CP will only order them if there is evidence of customer demand. I would suggest contacting the park and expressing interest in it. If enough people do so, then there is more of a likelihood that they will order those trains. I certainly plan on doing so (and your post reminded me that I should do just that), as I would love to make some wing rider models. While the trains will only have plastic wheels (if the park orders them in the first place), you would theoretically be able to order metal wheels from CD and swap them out, making fully-functional trains.
  14. I think that the fact that Grizzly is dull compounds the roughness, making it doubly unforgivable. While Roar is indeed rougher, it's still a fun ride. Grizzly, on the other hand, would put one to sleep if it wasn't for the jerking and slamming.
  15. That's why I said that Giant Dipper is excepted. It's remarkably smooth. Unfortunately, the rest of California's woodies hurt terribly (though, I haven't been on Apocalypse @ SFMM since its opening season, so I'm not sure how it has held up). And, yes, a chiropractic booth at Grizzly's exit would be welcome. That ride is both dull and painful.
  16. ^This could certainly be the case. However, I'm not sure how long that will last. Unfortunately, California seems to have a habit of letting its wood coasters deteriorate into violent chiropractic sessions (Giant Dipper @ SCBB excepted, of course). I'll definitely be sure to ride it during its opening season, when we'll be guaranteed a top notch ride.
  17. ^Yes, B:TR stations are indeed fully enclosed. Superman: Ultimate Flight at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom also has a fully enclosed station. I'm sure that there are plenty of photos of the station in the SFDK discussion thread, especially from the extensive media day coverage. But, yeah, that station is definitely fully enclosed (save for the entrance and exit, as well as two openings for the train itself. Good luck!
  18. ^Probably not, though they might break ground by the time the first footer on Full Throttle is poured.
  19. Sage advice, both of you. I plan on taking advantage of HITP once more tomorrow. I have some time off of work right now, and my in-laws are in town, delighted to take care of the kids. So, I'm heading there once more tomorrow for what will likely be my last visit of the season. If, by chance, anyone else will be there as well, PM me and we could meet up.
  20. Yesterday was a blast. It was nice to finally be able to put faces to names. I was also relieved that the weather held for us, and that my back didn't keep me off the coasters (most of yesterdays group knows that I messed up my back bouncing my daughter on my knee yesterday morning). I did, however, sit out Kong, because that's bad for my back even on a good day! I look forward to another meet-up in the future!
  21. Whatever precipitation that occurs tomorrow, I can't imagine that it will be heavy and constant. It's raining right now, but the park is open today (just checked their website). So, yeah, this is totally happening! Where will we meet up? Perhaps somewhere in the ticket booth area? Seeing as I'll be bringing a coupon for someone, meeting outside the gates would seem to make sense. Looking forward to a day of epicness (yes, I know that's not a word).
  22. I agree with RAWKIN_coaster38, no real need to make a confirmed list. However, I think it would be a good idea to establish a meeting place. Also, I have also been looking at the weather, and it is indeed getting better. Weather.com says 30% chance of showers, noaa.gov says 40%, and Weather Underground says only overcast. I can deal with those odds!
  23. This is indeed shaping up to be quite the meet-up! I would also like to offer coupons to any takers. I have a season pass coupon book. There are 4 coupons for $20 off admission, and one for $19.99 admission. You must be accompanied by a season pass holder, and one discount admission per pass holder per day. However, I'm guessing that there are other season pass holders in the group, so people could just pair up with pass holders when buying tickets in order to use multiple coupons. Just PM me if you are interested. Oh, and I'm going to agree with Double0Kevin and RAWKIN_coaster38, delay a day Cal1br3tto. The more the merrier! Looking forward to a day of TPR mischief!
  24. I'm not too worried. The forecast shows clear the day before and the day after. The likelihood that it happens directly over Vallejo on the hours of operation and is so much that it would cause issues isn't likely. I think the worst we will have to worry about is some showers. I'll be there either way, so you guys better show up too. Haha. I'm no too worried either, for the same reason you gave. I'll keep checking the weather to see if it changes, but I'm planning on being there. I'm psyched to see so many people joining in...should be a fun little party! As for gathering contact info and establishing a place to meet up, I'd rather not do it, as my wife is currently out of town, effectively making me a single parent (keeps you busy and tired). It would be great if someone else would do it. However, if nobody else can do it, I'd be willing to gather contact info and figure out a meeting place.
