Nürburgring launched coaster
Scaparri replied to thomas2's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Plus, I really don't think the Nurburgring cares about having the fastest coaster in the world. Notice that they don't even really acknowledge taking the crown for the world's fastest coaster? Nurburgring is one of the most legendary race tracks in the world. They are trying to create a unique experience for race fans more so than they are trying to attract roller coaster thrill seekers. They probably are using this as leverage to keep the German Grand Prix (F1 race). For the past several years, Germany has been fortunate enough to hold two F1 races; one at Nurburgring and one at Hockenheim. In 2006, F1 announced that they weren't going to do that anymore, so until 2010, Nurburgring and Hockenheim will alternate hosting the race. It's unsure who will host after that contract expires. 2009 is the last year in this contract that Nurburgring is scheduled to host the GP. Coincidence? I think not. So while the coaster isn't something that will be exclusive to the weekend of the GP, it is still a unique and thrill experience for the race fans that is comparable to racing an F1 car, and it gives Nurburgring an advantage over Hockenheim. -
Do we really need a thread over every piece of news posted on Screamscape, or am I just too critical or negative?

Nürburgring launched coaster

If you look at the train rendering in the article, it's pretty obvious that this isn't going to be like Dodonpa and Hypersonic, but more like Powder Keg. Just take a look at the wheel assemblies. Assuming the rendering is accurate, I definitely can't see this coaster using air tires with that design, so it likely won't be nearly as bad as Dodonpa and Hypersonic apparently are. I imagine they'll probably be using a more traditional track style. And for the record, 217 km/h translates into approximately 135 mph. -
Mitch Hawker's Steel Poll

^Yeah, Half Pipe is the only one listed. Since all the other coasters there are widely produced clones, they fall under the categories of Fav Vekoma Boomerang, Fav Vek Susp Loop SLC, Fav Zamperla Volare, and Fav Arrow Shuttle Loop. -

^^So... are you trying to make fun of something or somebody by posting completely random rankings? Seems like a stupid post unless I'm missing something. -

Yeah, again, exactly. They maybe a prototype, but there has to be some intention for creating this prototype, which remains a mystery to me. Maybe to make the trains feel more open? I don't know. Either way, I don't really care for them. -

^^Exactly. I don't get what the point of the new trains are. What advantage do they give over the usual inline 4, or 2x2 on most coasters? I personally like sitting right next to my friends too. I don't necessarily have conversations, but I like having the ability to interact. The Behemoth trains just seem very gimmicky. -
Though I still think the idea of putting to wild mouse coasters right next to each other at SFGAm is a little dumb, I'm definitely impressed with the drawings for this ride. I'm really hoping that the level of theming they are putting out for these three coasters is going to be a sign of the future.

Video TR: Sexin It Up with Vault ICEEs

^Oh yeah, I agree that age doesn't matter... unless it's an age that can put you in prison in many states. The person he's talking about is only 16. But I'm not trying to make a big deal about it. I like to think he's probably just running with a joke now. -

Indiana Beach (IB) Discussion Thread

Ha! So they aren't supposed to market their new ride because you think it's going to suck? Come on dude, what do you expect? And seriously, at least give them the credit for having the balls to risk their money on a ride that hasn't been done before. Anyway, I'm hesitantly excited about this. I have the feeling it's going to be either loved or hated. I kind of wished they would have made an improved version of the video instead of splicing Steel Hawg graphics into the S&S promo video, but at least it confirms the layout of the coaster so I won't complain too much. I'm really lookin' forward to riding this thing this year. -
I see what you're saying and it makes sense, but that theory only applies if they can actually get people to pay the higher price. For me personally, I've been buying an SF season pass for probably 8 years now, and in that time, only once have I bought a season pass to another company as well. It's just not worth the money to me to spend the $100-$150 for a season pass when I it requires me to visit so many times before it's worth my money. I know the SF pass is worth it, and that brings me back through their $15 parking gates many times a year. I actually like how SFStL did it last year. As flawed as it is, I scored my season pass for about $20 cheaper than most people because I lived about four hours away, outside of the marketing zone. Again, that could be a really flawed system that people could work their way around, but it sort of makes sense to charge more for the people near the park because they will use it more. Is it fair? I don't know, but it seems like a decent idea.

What movies are YOU looking forward to in 2008?
Scaparri replied to Broadwayboy2007's topic in Random, Random, Random
I can't believe nobody has said this, but definitely Adventureland, the movie with Ryan Reynolds starring as an amusement park employee. I'm also looking forward to Pineapple Express and Horton Hears a Who. -
I'm going to make a stand and say that "California Love" is the greatest rap song ever. I'm not really much of a rap fan, but nobody can say that when that song comes on, they don't get into at least a little bit.
-
^Yeah, but I'm sure they have economists that study what they should do and have found that the lower price actually makes more money. If they raise the price to $80, then a lot fewer people are going to buy a season pass, which also lowers the number of people making return visits. However, if they sell it for $60, then they are not only selling more season passes, but they are getting a lot more people to pay for their $15 parking, $8 cokes, and $12 chicken finger baskets, on more than occasion.

"Forgot About Dre"- Dr. Dre ft/ Eminem.... back before rap sucked really bad.

A lot of people keep saying SFKK, but I honestly can't see them selling it. It's not going to be purely about how much profit the park makes them, but how valuably the land is that it sits on. SF doesn't even own half the land that SFKK is on, so I don't see it really being worth there while to sell it. Maybe I'll be proven wrong, but that's just my theory. I think Robb is probably right on with SFM and the non-branded parks, especially La Ronde. I guess we'll see though.

^Yeah, but keep in mind, IB is completely out of the way given the parks he listed. All the parks he's talking about hitting are all at least two hours away from Indy in a southerly direction. IB is at least an hour and a half north-northwest of Indy. But hey, if you are able to do that, Edboxer, then definitely take advantage of it 'cause it really is an awesome park. I honestly wouldn't suggest any changes to the park itinerary if you are cramped for time at all. Yeah, Beech Bend is only two hours away from SFKK, but it's completely in the opposite direction so it'll put you down at least 4 extra hours of travel time. If you aren't doing the water park at HW and it's a weekday, I would probably suggest 3-4 hours tops, depending on how many rides you like to do. SFKK through the week can honestly be done in an hour or two if the park isn't too busy, which it generally isn't. KI can, range, but again if you go through the week and it's not too busy, you might be able to have the park done in 7 or 8 hours. There isn't a lot in the HW area, so I would suggest trying to stay in Louisville somewhere. I know there are a lot of decent hotels around the park as well as a lot near the airport which is pretty much right next to the park. I couldn't tell you how pricey they are though. As for KI, again, the only hotel I've stayed at in the area is the Kings Island Inn right there on the park's property. I thought it was a fairly nice little hotel and the price was fair given the time of year and the location.
