Are you sure it was a cologne and not some kind of animal repellant? I've never heard of theme park cologne. Who would want to smell like Circus World? -
Pointless new attractions

I thought it was pretty pointless for Knott's to remove the Corkscrew and add Boomerang. They already had a backwards coaster (and a far better one) Montezooma's Revenge. So with the removal of Corkscrew they then had two coasters at the park both which went backwards. Knott's did do some pretty pointless things back in the days -

Miles- Thanks for making me stay the extra hours into the night. I didn't get home until 11:30 but it was so worth it to get those night rides in on Revolution, Colossus, Ninja, Goliath & Scream. I haven't had that much fun at Magic Mountain in I don't know how long! And RIP Psyclone, thanks for letting us slip by, we owe ya. On another note, I am really glad to see Tim Burkhart in a position to do something about Magic Mountain. As an 18 year old ride attendant on the Sarajevo Bobsled, Tim was my supervisor. I remember once he pulled me aside and really gave it to me cause I was chewing gum on the job. He really cares about that park and has most of his life invested in it. I never forgot it and a warning to those of you chewing gum on the job....Spit it out or feel the wrath of Tim! -

Von Roll Monorails - METRO Well I am still so blown away by Magic Mountain! I can't believe that I stayed at the park from 9:00 in the morning until 9:30 at night. That is over 12 hours!!! 12 hours at Magic Mountain!!! And I enjoyed every minute of it. I am just so thrilled about the changes going on there. So thanks again to all those that made it possible and a special thanks to the management for doing such a great job and giving us our MAGIC Mountain back! While at the Bash I noticed there was much interest in the Metro and if it would ever run again? Well we got the answer that pretty much seals its fate... "It does not meet todays codes" So as a tribute to the demise of the Metro I have dug up the brochure from the manufacturer for my next post. I wonder if there was this much sorrow when the monorail at Carowinds was taken out? RIP METRO The Metro at Magic Mountain -

Eyerly Aircraft Company Continuing on from my post last week (Venture Ride Mfg.) about funny old flats, I am looking back now at the generation of flat rides that were a little before my time. I come from the Pirate, Enterprise & Wave Swinger generation but these go way back even before those. Eyerly Aircraft Company from Salem, Oregon is the makers of these really old contraptions you see at some traditional parks but mostly fairs and carnivals. They make such rides as the Loop-O-Plane, Rock-O-Plane, Roll-O-Plane, Sidewinder, Octopus, Spider, and Monster. My parents took me to Lagoon in Salt Lake as a kid several times and every year I would try to be brave enough to ride the Hammer (Loop-O-Plane). They ended up taking the ride out before I actually ever rode it, but I did ride their Roll-O-Plane before they took it out and still ride the Rock-O-Plane every time I visit. The Monster is one of my all time favorite flats. I used to ride it every time I went to Magic Mountain as the "Jolly Monster" I also never missed "Mo-Mo the Monster" at Six Flags over Georgia. The Monster still hold up today against some of the bigger flats. My kids would rather ride the Monster over Max Air anyday! -

Cedar Point 1978 Before Cedar Point was "America's Roller Coast" or "The Amazement Park" it was just plan ol "Cedar Point Amusement Land Mid-America's Finest Fun Center". This update takes a look back at the Great Amusement Park that everyone loves to hate or hates to love. Take a look at this souvenir book and see how many changes and lost attractions you can find. Hey and if you look close enough you may even be able to spot a picture of Dick Kinzel back in the days when he was just a ride operator on the Sky Slide. (joke) -Shane -

If I could go back in time and ride any coaster that is now gone, The Rocket would be my #1 choice!!! That speed dip after the first drop looks brutal! I wish I had the chance to ride it. I can't think of anything worse than sitting in the coaster and not being able to ride cause no one else would ride with you...total bummer!!! Those are some great pictures. I believe that when the movie Roller Coaster was filmed the ride got a pretty make over but it it's last days it was pretty delapidated (sp?) That crash scene in Roller Coaster is pretty good! Gruesome but Good! PS- where are the nudie shots from Playboy??? -

While in Japan this past summer with TPR we came across this four-armed version of the Cobra at Higashiyama Zoo. Not sure who made it but it was one of the most nausiating flats I have ever been on. -

VENTURE RIDE MFG. Well when it comes to flat rides "I am into most things except Scat". OK, get your mind out of the gutter, Scat was a ride by Venture, they also made a little gem called the Cobra. These rides didn't make it into any theme parks that I am aware of but they were a staple on carnival midways for years. I haven't seen too many of them around lately. I rode one, I think it was the Cobra, at Marshall Scotty's Playland Park in El Cajon, CA when I was a kid. For all you flat ride junkies, these two unique and strange rides are right up there with the Chance Turbo and Toboggan. I now present "SCAT" & "COBRA" by Venture...oh and one other kiddie ride. Any of you ridden either one of these? I could come up with a million and one better names. -
While I enjoy EPCOT, I am not a huge fanboy of the park so I am not up on all the stories...Can you EPCOT fanboys explain a few things for me... -Why did they have to remove the Horizons pavilion, that seems like that would've been an added expense rather than just building Space in a different area of the park. Is there no more room in Future World? -Why is that MetLife Body Pavilion always closed, is it also on it's way out? -Also over in World Showcase, there is that little snack stand themed like Africa, what is the deal with that???? -and lastly I hardly remember the first Journey to Imagination ride, why was it changed and what is the story behind Figment? You have really peaked my interest in EPCOT now
-
What a great thread. I really enjoy seeing the concept art for EPCOT. Luckily I was able to visit EPCOT in it's opening year and many times since then. I enjoyed it in it's original state but I also enjoy it as it is today. Thanks for posting. Can't wait to see more! I wish they would build a new Country in World Showcase. And wasn't there talk of building a "Matterhorn" type ride as Mt Fuji in the Japan pavilion?

Hmmmmmm, you bring up a very good and valid point. I have never looked at relocated coasters that way. I may have to go back and re-evaluate my track record. -
The Six Flags Magic Mountain Museum

I remember seeing that model at Arrow's booth at the IAAPA convention. It was on display right along side the Ninja model which opened in 1988. Shock Wave at Six Flags Great America also opened in 1988 so I would assume that it is a model of Shock Wave and it was repainted and used as a promotional piece for Viper. But I guess you could argue since Shock Wave was originally supposed to go to SFGAd and ended up at SFGAm. It would be safe to say that it is a model of the "first" Arrow mega-looper. I can't wait to see the stuff on display I think this museum idea is GREAT! I hope other parks catch on and do the same thing. I would love to see museums at the top of both Eiffel Towers. I certainly have plenty of stuff in my attic I could donate if they need. -

The Lakeside Cyclone itself is worth a trip to Denver, just make sure you are there to catch the park after dark. Lakeside is a completely different park from night to day! -

In the old location of Elitch Gardens you could actually see the lift of the Lakeside Cyclone from the lift of Mr. Twister and visa-versa. Pretty cool to be in one park and see another coaster in another park. -

OMG! I was there at that same convention. Of course I remember the ski poster, it hung above my bed for most of my high school years until it was replaced by a Duran Duran poster...lol
