  1. Looks like this will be a great time for all involved. Im just sorry that Ive already left the UK and cant join you at any parks. When you guys hit Blackpool remember you have a dark ride credit and a monorail thats been given a shooting-dark-ride-type makeover up in Coral Island. This year you've also got Carnesky's ghost train right next door to the pleasure beach and Aliewn Attack open now. A few dark credits there that many people miss! Have a great time all of you. Look forward to the reports.
  2. Its now officially open. Sadly Im in Salt Lake City now and can't go.
  3. Most of the info you could want is on the official site (though it doesnt seem quite finished yet). http://www.alienattackblackpool.com/index.htm Since its due to open tomorrow, I figured I would stick the trailer from youtube here so anyone interested could get a teaser. Looks like they are keeping to the steep £10 per person entry fee they had in glasgow. There is a number on the site to call for organising group rates.
  4. Being both Scottish and currently living in the USA, I guess I had to support USA But seriously, that was an awful and unfortunate way to loose a goal.
  5. Every time I stay parkside in Big Blue, you see the guys walking the track very early on every morning, hammering nails etc. They seemed to pay alot of attention to the bottom of the dip and hill leading to where that coaster is sitting. Perhaps thats becoming a problem area for the ride. Was the track at the bottom of that dip replaced/repaired after the incident as well as the track on the climb?
  6. He still hasn't gotten rid of the bendy buses yet like he said he would. Im not surprised he is a bit behind. considering he is a bit of a behind himself ;p. Im so glad he is not my mayor. And they will need to do something with the land they are using for the olympics once its over. Anyone know how much real estate they are putting into that? I thought the Harry Potter saga was set in modern Britain. Just the muggles cant see all the wizardy type stuff.
  7. Ah, good old Boris Johnson. The man is a lovable, glorious loon. But I can sort of see his point in a way. I still remember his presenting the comedy topical quiz panel show thing "Have I Got News For You."
  8. Its not every day you get invited out for a chinese buffet lunch with a genuine Martial arts legend. How did that happen?
  9. Well, this one time, at band camp... Sorry, I just had to go there.
  10. Just like in glasgow, the opening date is slipping. Opening date is now 19th June. Official site is now live. A facebook event page for the opening night is up: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=102406476474539 Also, for anyone interested a couple of pictures of the set have been released on the hauntedattractions site. Ive linked below so as not to spoil it for anyone who doesn't want to see. Also its an exclusive for them so im not going to steal their pictures Obviously the set during the show wont be so brighty lit. Clicky for picy EDIT: just updating the opening date.
  11. gently down- Liquid mind. Helps calm the mind, you know.
  12. That would depend. There are normal people watching to observe human behavior type activities, which are fine and sometimes interesting. Then there are other types of people watching. The hiding in the bushes, in the dark type. Which is deeply troubling.
  13. Sometimes forgets how awful trying to have a debate on an internet forum is, and is often brought down to earth with several head-against-wall thumps. Why do I even bother. Have people forgotten how to argue their points or have they never learned it in the first place. If I wanted to be an ass about it I would actually have fun with it. I really cant be bothered though. Also, the prostitute operating from the room above ours has been keeping us awake. This displeases me.
  14. ^ I think you have missed my point somewhat. Remember like for like. A pilot blacking out is not the same as a pilot staying conscious. Blackout = brain starved of blood, not blackout = brain not starved of blood. Its not the same situation. At all. One is OK, the other isnt. I really don't see why we are talking about fighter pilots, its really not the same as riding a coaster. the goalposts and context are way different. And whats this stuff about the arm? Whats that have to do with any of this? Of course I don't think that a dead arm is the same as blacking out due to a lack of oxygen in the brain. You would have to be a serious twit to think it was. Like I said, compare like for like. Yes, it may be nothing, but I still think its better to err on the side of caution and get blood pressure checked. Just in case. I hope if you continue this debate, you put proper effort into it, rather than just using 'internet arguing'.
  15. I know where your trying to come from, but your not comparing like with like. Some of you may like to imagine your highly exciting and sexy fighter pilots, but in general, coaster enthusiasts are not. They experience high G, but do not black out all that often. They are trained not to (as in recognize the limits and not go beyond it). What good is a blacked out pilot in a dogfight or evasive maneuvering? If he blacks out, he probably dies. And like you said, they have pressure suits. They also have superior physical fitness and training, all things the average coaster rider does not have. If your average Joe blacks out on a ride after a few seconds of mid-level G (which most healthy people should be able to take), that could indicate a underlying issue he should make himself (or herself) aware of. And if there is an issue, pushing it to unconsciousness is probably a bad idea. Im not saying thats definitely whats up with these people, but its smarter to get it checked than not. I figure its only sensible.
  16. Im tired and cant be bothered to get a picture right now, but I use an LG chocolate. Its a nice phone, but the touch buttons are slightly too sensitive, and I haven't found a way to change the sensitivity yet. And by sensitive, I mean they activate before your finger even touches then, you just have to hover the tip of your finger over them. Makes for alot of accidental button presses. Still, its a sexy phone.
  17. I have never had a greying out or blacking out experience. I have had the situation where my face starts to feel a little cold and my legs feel a little heavy after repeated rides, but thats as close as I have gotten. You expect that with repeated +ve G and as has been said, you can almost completely alleviate it by constricting your lower stomach and with more sustained G, tensing your legs as well. This will get tiring after a while though, but I bet its great for your abs. Im not sure, even with intense rides such as batman, that anyone should be greying or blacking out. Despite what people say, it really isnt normal. These rides aren't designed to be intense enough to black out a regular healthy person. If you find it happening alot, you may want to get your blood pressure checked just in case its a little low. If it is, think twice about riding. Most rides do warn about blood pressure on their warning/precaution signs. Lots of people have been saying i305 has greyed or blacked them out, but Ive never ridden that. It cant be healthy to go draining blood out of your brain and eyes till you cant see. Just my two cents.
  18. I never really trust the rumors about Blackpool, as there is so much disinformation. A few years ago one of the guys operating revolution says he sometimes lies to people who are 'clearly enthusiasts' just for fun. Ive heard everything about the ark from refurb and extending to demolish to just staying as a nice entranceway. The only museum rumor I heard was about the Space Invader building, and PBP have planning permission to remove that building. Given the still crappy UK economy, I dont think we will be seeing a Noahs ark refurb anytime soon. I just moved to the US from the UK a few weeks ago, and I really hope the park has recovered from the crunch by the time I go back to the UK for a visit. Still, I always enjoy looking at pics of my fave boyhood park. So many memories there. Thanks for the report.
  19. I came into this thread last week and people were arguing whether Inty have made a mistake or are at fault. I come in today, and some of you are still at it. Clearly there are people here who dont have enough snuffy-lovin in their lives. Maybe get big-bird involved to, he must be after something the way he is always hanging around. Im really not getting what the big deal is. Its not like people will ride it and say "Wow, this ride sucks, if only it went 10 or 15 mph faster, then it would own!" Im willing to put money on it being awesome with or without trims. Im really not seeing the problem here. Actually I just though of something else. Did Inty actually design the layout as well? I thought there were often four (or five) companies involved in building a coaster. The ride system designer (inty, B&M, etc), sometimes the steel company that manufactures the parts, the park, the company that plugs it together, and often a third party designer who does the layout. If the 305 layout was designed by a third party or the park, then any arguments stating Inty are at fault for bad design are null and void. right? Oh God, stop me, Im being drawn into the web of geeky sin! Now, wheres that snuffy soft toy...
  20. This would be a triple post, right? Is that bad? Am I gonna get title-raped for this? Anyway, Still no confirmed date so I suppose its now slipped to June. This coming weekend was the last proposed date I had heard. That was from an official source but it was unconfirmed at the time. The official site no longer just has a placeholder message from the hosting company, it has a logo for the attraction. So hopefully it wont be long now. Official site linked below for anyone interested. http://www.alienattackblackpool.com/ Im in the middle of an international relocation from Scotland to the US just now, so I may be a little late with any updates I find on this. Apologies in advance.
  21. I think there are things sort of like that in Japan. Though they are shaped more like a zipper than a wheel. In fact I remember seeing one in Tokyo Drift. EDIT: Just thought, how hard would a drive on roller coaster be? You have drive on trains and boats, right?
  22. I think its looking good. One thing though, about those three ghosts at the windows. The one on the left. Is that Spongebob? I look forward to seeing how they light the building at night.
  23. I still dont know an official opening date yet, nor is the website live. However, I do have one little bit of further information. For those in the Brit crew who went through Alien wars in Glasgow last year, may remember the SUB guy (or 'unofficial marine') was called Draven. In character obviously. Well, he just popped up on facebook saying he will be leading the new Blackpool show, and it will be scarier that the glasgow version. I remember him as doing a particularly good job the twice that I went round with him. He seems to love what he does, and it makes the difference I reckon.
  24. Maybe its an employees-and-family-only soft opening or something. I have doubts that there will be a 'regular' soft opening.
