  1. Oprah had a park in Nashville? It's a little known fact that Oprah lived in the music city at one time. However, when I typed that I wasn't thinking of her, but rather the southern pronounciation of Opryland. Maybe Oprah should open a park though so we can all get free cars at the entrance gate!
  2. Something about Kings Dominion has never struck the right chord with me. I've only ever visited the park twice, most recently in 2005, but both times I came away from the park not really feeling I'd experienced anything that special or magical. Who knows...maybe the third time is the charm? Nonetheless, here's a look back at the park in the 70's and 80's. Shockwave in 1988 War Eagle! 1978 Brochure 1980 Shows Schedule 1981 Brochure What a bargain! Souvenir cup Ticket book
  3. Nashville please. We miss Oprahland.
  4. I've just finished watching the documentary, "Tilt: The Battle to Save Pinball". I bought it off Amazon.com. I thought it was really good and enjoyed watching it a lot. Has anyone else seen it? You can watch the trailer here: http://www.tilt-movie.com/trailer.php Oh and by the way, it was a nice surprise to see you in it Cameron!
  5. ^ I wonder has that name been used yet? Shane, I could never come close to posting all the awesomeness of your thread. Hurry up and start season 4 already!!!
  6. Deathbydinn/RCDB is correct...Goldrush became Silver Dollar City in its most recent incarnation before it transformed into Dollywood. I have a lot of brochures from when the park was SDC and plan to share those at a later date too. Jon, I'm glad you're enjoying the brochures. I found a 1980 park map online which shows where the Worlds of Fun Aerodrome area was located as part of the Americana section (upper right hand side of the map): http://www.worldsoffun.org/history/maps/1980lrg.jpg Guy...Lucky you...I was stuck in the cubicle farm all day. My earliest memory of ever riding anything at an amusement park was with my dad on the log ride at Goldrush Junction when I was about 5 years old. I distinctly remember while riding the log ride seeing the "big" mad mouse and thinking how intimidating it looked. Back then, the park was basically just the Country Fair area now. Thanks for the nice comments all!
  7. We've done it...Blue Streak has moved up to #1! The month is half over, so everyone keep voting daily to keep it at the top.
  8. Long ago before Dollywood became the country music mecca of the Smoky Mountains, the park was known as Goldrush Junction in the early 1970's (and before that Rebel Railroad in the 60's). The park was nowhere near the size it is today and consisted of the steam train, a mad mouse, a log flume, and a few carnival rides. Enjoy this spotlight on the park now and then.
  9. I've been voting everyday several times. I put a stciky note reminder on my computer and that has helped me remember to vote daily. Wonder if we can get it bumped to #1?!
  10. This looks fantastic and the perfect addition to Grona Lund. I'm seriously salivating over that pointed headchopper drop under the lift hill! I can't wait to get back to this amazing park on another TPR trip!!!
  11. Who is attending TPR member day at Six Flags Great America this Friday? Well this update is for you! Featured this week is a postcard I picked up at the park back in 2004 featuring SFGAm's coasters. Following the postcard is a 1978 brochure from when the park was still owned by Marriott! Everyone have fun at the park on Friday!!!
  12. I haven't been to WDW since 1989. I'm way past overdue. Amazing pics and thanks for sharing.
  13. I've been voting everyday...several times. It was at #2 earlier today, so that's exciting to see it move up to #1!!! Here's the voting link again for any newcomers: http://www.refresheverything.com/conneautlakeparkbluestreak Other ways you can also vote are on your phone by texting 100510 to 73774 and vote from Facebook.
  14. Shane, great to hear Cowabunga Bay is doing so well!!! Alton Towers sure looks to have come a long way since the mid-80's shown in that brochure which also happens to be around the same time period I visited the park. I don't remember much about it except riding the Corkscrew, 1001 Knights, and the river rapids ride. To add to your mid-Summer update, here's a press release for a park that never was built - Aero World. It was proposed for the San Diego area back in 1980. I'm not exactly sure what happened that it never got built. I've never been to San Diego, so I have no idea what (if anything) is built on the proposed park location now. Anyway check it out...
  15. ^ Yeah very odd it could fall to #123 in an hour...sounds fishy. I was able to vote again from the website, but not again from Facebook or cell phone. Everyone try to submit your vote from the website again: http://www.refresheverything.com/conneautlakeparkbluestreak
  16. I voted 3 times today. Remember you can vote every day, and can vote from Facebook as well as texting 100510 to phone number 73774. I feel like there's more awareness this time. It's back up to #3 currently.
  17. It's birthday time here at the Paradise. That's right...this thread is turning 3 years old at the end of August, but no need to wait until then to party up. So to celebrate and thank my friends here at TPR, I'm going to expand this thread to include park brochures and anything else deemed Paradise worthy. Of course postcards will still remain the main focus so never fear loyal readers! Alright on with the show, and for all you lucky 2010 TPR Mid-America Trip participants here's an expansive update featuring Worlds of Fun with a modern postcard as well as a time warp back to 1978 when the park added the new Aerodrome themed area and Barnstormer airplane ride. Check it out!
  18. ^ According to the FAQ page on the website it sounds to me like it can be relisted each month: http://www.refresheverything.com/faq "Can an application for the same idea be resubmitted the next month if I don't win? Yes, if your application is not one of the 32 recipients selected OR one of the top 100 runners-up (which automatically carry over). To submit the same application again, you will need to delete your current application and resubmit it." and "My idea was not selected. Can I submit a new idea or resubmit my current idea for the next distribution of grants? Yes. The Pepsi Refresh Project allows you to submit one (1) idea at a time for voter consideration. If your idea is not selected, it will remain on RefreshEverything.com for viewing. If you would like to submit a new idea or resubmit your current idea AND your application is not one of the 32 recipients selected OR one of the top 100 runners-up, you will need to delete your current idea from the website and fill out a new application. The ability to do so will be available starting April 1, 2010. Until then, please contact us at PepsiRefresh@young-america.com for assistance or additional information."
  19. Hey Ivan! Please go ride this and let us know how it is. Oh and please don't die on it!!!
  20. I agree...what's up with all the "best of" threads? Anyway, I voted yesterday. Dave you can vote everyday...it's not limited to a one time thing. So since you voted yesterday you are allowed to vote again today. The "best of" threads are getting annoying personally lol.
  21. Since it seems like there have been an incredible amount of "best this or that" threads bumped the last two days, I figured this thread was worthy of bumping too. Saturday is the last day to vote for Blue Streak to receive Pepsi funds. We need everyone to vote for it to get in the top 10. See Larry's link above and vote NOW!!!
  22. Yikes I forgot to vote yesterday, but Blue Streak moved up another notch to #15 anyway. Thanks Larry for posting that link above again. It has 5 more notches to climb to get in the top 10 and receive the funding. This Saturday is the last day for voting. Click on Larry's link above and vote NOW!!!
  23. WOW...another great update Larry! That surely looks like the best Boomerang in the world since it has the bonus tunnel and lapbar restraints. Can't wait for the rest of this Prater update to see if the park looks anything like it did when I was there in '90...not that I remember a whole lot besides riding the giant Ferris wheel and Condor. Thanks Larry!
  24. ^ You're welcome, and you can look forward to this thread expanding to include postcard related park brochures, maps, and other interesting items starting when the Paradise celebrates its 3rd birthday in August. As always, if you've got postcards sitting around at home, feel free to scan them and share them in this thread. I love to see other people's collections! For now, it's time for Comic-Con weekend in San Diego, arguably the world's biggest and coolest dork fest. The Paradise is happy to participate in this year's event by featuring this exclusive limited edition Six Flags Comic-Con postcard from 2004 (well not really but it sounds good!). Wonder Twin powers activate... Hey look it's Ryan Reynolds! Get your geek on.
