Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
Ccron10 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Some servey markers have been spotted in Creekside Catering so I decided to stop by while I was in the area to check and see if there were any along Park Ave to see if the the park might expand into the golf course. I didn't see anything on the old pool complex, didn't see anything in Creekside Catering and it looks like it's been unused for awhile. I didn't see any servey markers or anything out of the normal. I do have to say that the stretch of road is terrible and should be moved to make it curve less. So far, I guess the build area is from Comet down to Creekside Catering which means you can kiss those ideas of a Giga goodbye for now, but it might still be a large ride. -
After visiting my college, my mom and me decided to stop at Fuddruckers (eventually since our GPS had the restaurant down near Hershey Highmeadow) Since we were in the area, I brought up the idea of stopping to get another T-Shirt and do some snooping around in Chocolate World. For future reference, the cost of parking in the Chocolate World lot is 0 to 3hrs: Free, 3 to 5 hrs: $10, and 10 hrs and up: $30 (don't want to loose that ticket). We got to the park around 6:45 so my guess is that either we arrived at the time that many families were starting to leave or it's just like that all the time ( lots of people). We stopped at the store and in Tudor Square, bought a new T-Shirt (a white one with Storm Runner's layout on it) and a new Kissing Tower pin. They now sell Dutch Wonderland pins and they have one for Twister (aka Rodeo). We next went over to Chocolate World to pick up some candy and skipped our on the tour ride. The Candy Bar attraction is now open and admission is $14.95 for it. They were also selling T-shirts for it too. We left the park, went on Park Blvd. (see my 2012 rumor thread post for more), and stopped at the Hershey Public Library to upgrade my library card and browse. They had pretty many books on Milton Hershey and a few dvds on the town's centennial, but it was not bad. The had a cow statue in the lobby too. I headed home after this. That's all folks!

I'm starting to read that book too! It's better than the Summer reading book I have to do for college. Your trip report gets me in the mood to head to a waterpark sometime soon. -
What weekday is Hersheypark least crowded?
Ccron10 replied to JDo217's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Oh. Well just ignore my comment then. But any weekday is better than a Saturday. Going in the evening on a weekday is the best from what I've heard. Plus it's a little easier on the wallet. Waits from what I've heard can vary from a walk-on to a hour wait. The Boardwalk is going to be the most crowded part of the park. -
Hersheypark 2011 [RCT3]
Ccron10 replied to Ccron10's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
I'll just build the Aquatheatre structure, but since RCT doesn't have round building objects, it's going to be just a square structure made from CS (answering ScooterGuy's question). As of right now Founder's Circle is completed and Tudor's Square and Rhineland are going to have to be redone. Photos soon! -
I believe this was pre-recorded. They were at the park last month just before my visit. They did the same thing a few years ago at SFStL, but they did in the parking lot. I was there for that and was on TV for yesterday's episodes and the last one for last sunday (which I was sitting behind Bugs Bunny for that one). I was wearing a brown Hydra shirt. GASM had a 30 to 45 minute wait that day. The British Coaster Club was there that day as well.

When I was there yesterday they seemed to have the next generation cars sitting on the brake run. They didn't have any seats to them, but it doesn't seems like it would take much to finish the ride up. As for BD, I didn't get a good look at it, but the new roof looks great! -

Ccron10 replied to Ccron10's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
After almost a year since i halted work on my re-creation of Hersheypark I am glad to announce that the wait is over! I will be working on the park again over the summer and will try to finish it before the middle of August. This will probably be my final RCT park for awhile and I plan on renovating the current park and turning it into the 2010 version as well as finishing it. I will have more details on the renovation coming up on my next offical update, but until then here's a screen showing the park in it's current state. My next update will be soon! -

^^Not really. A lot of structures out here are built using wood, but it's mostly the inside of the building. Looks like I'll have some track to look at on Saturday while I'm there. -

Ccron10 replied to Ccron10's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
I have good news. I plan on heading over to Best Buy tonight to look at laptops. I won't be buying one for at least two weeks though because I am going to first see what my college suggests what to get for the work that I'll be doing there. What this means is that I plan on getting back to work on Hersheypark on RCT3 as a summer project and try to finish it before the end of August when college starts. I believe I still need to theme some of the areas, dust off my custom scenery-making skills (I having made something for over a year), create a new map for the Boardwalk and Midway America area, and build the parking lot, service center, stadium, Star Pavilion and maybe add Chocolate World. Right now I am contemplating on possibly updating the park and making the 2010 Version (Version 3 since I originally started the project back in 2007, then I started version 2 because I accidentally deleted the park). I may also detail the park even more as well. I know some of you have been waiting for this for awhile now, but I am pretty confident that the wait might almost be over and that progress may start soon. -

So what is currently happening with the coaster? Is it still just sitting there? Are they still waiting for the new trains? Or are they testing? It just seems wierd how there has been no word about it for the last 2 months. -

I went on opening day this year and while the line for Gourmet Grill wasn't too long, there wasn't many seats available there. From a personal opinion I found Gourmet Grill to be good. I think they changed their fries because when I went there and ate a Minetown Restaurant a year or two ago, they were horrible and didn't have any salt. Now they are great. I still want to try Freeman's BBQ sometime. EDIT: Some servey markers have been recently spotted in the Comet Hollow area and from the looks of them, they are strikingly similar to Fahrenheit's when it was under construction. By the end of summer I am going to be moving out there and going to college nearby, so if this is what I am thinking it could be, I'll have to see about posting updates about it. -

It seems like it's been quiet as far progress goes so I'm guessing that it could either be a good or bad thing. With opening day tomorrow, could it be possible for the park to suprise us and open it? I wonder what the trains will look like? -
This weekend, I went up to Erie with my girlfriend and her family to a state bowling tournament. We stayed at a hotel less than a mile from Waldameer Park (couldn't see Ravine Flyer though) and decided to stop at an indoor waterpark before heading home. After leaving the bowling alley up there around 10:15, it only took us 10 minutes to drive to Splash Lagoon. The parking lot looked packed, but actually the crowds didn't seem to be much of a problem. I have to admit, I have never actually been to an indoor waterpark before, and didn't have high hopes on how good this place would be. But I think this may have turned me into a waterpark enthusiest now. The park has 7 waterslides that actually sometimes weave in and out of the building. 3 are tube slides and 4 are body slides. My girlfriend and I pretty much got ride every slide at least once. Our first slide was the Cyclone which was a toilet bowl tube slide. After carrying your tube up a slide tower shard by two other slides, you slide down into the bowl and spin several times while getting hit by water from the Tiki Tree House playstructure. This ride will give you a wedgie so make sure sit higher on the tube or your a$$ will be sliding 25 mph like ours did. Overall, a great ride. 9/10. We next tried out the Hurricane Hole toilet bowl slide. This one didn't require the use of a tube and sent you down into the bowl at 40 mph before falling into the pool below. I think out of all the slides, this one was the worst. The curve of the slide was so tight at the bottom of the drop that it kind of hurt since the force of gravity was forcing you down. After spinning a few times, you either fall head-first or feet-first into the pool. Word of advice.... DON"T GO HEAD-FIRST! My girlfriend hurt her eardrum from it. The exit was also hard to find as well since I wasn't wearing any glasses. 4/10 Splash Lagoon also has a great lazy river too. You do move at a fast pace which was great, but you can also get wet by a waterfall. We were having fun racing each other in this. In my opinion, lazy rivers need to be more like this to be kept interesting. Also, the pool is very shallow (2 1/2 feet) so try not to get your legs scraped along the bottom of the pool like I did. 9/10 The next slide was the Big Kahuna tube slide. It starts with you going under a waterfall, but then has you go down outside, but darkens up once you enter the building again. It has to be the longest slide in the park. 8/10 The Tiki Tree House is kind of your basic water playstructure with two slides, water guns, fountains and giant tipping bucket. The climbing nets do a number on your feet though, but the walkway going over The Cyclone bowl is cool. 8/10 While I wouldn't say Adventure Bay is your typical swimming pool, it does have lilypad crossing where I epically failed at getting to even the first one. The pool also has many basketball hoops and water jets that sometimes shoot water at you from the bottom of the pool. Good luck getting your own hoop though. 6/10 The Shark Attack kind of made me dislike body slides for the way they shove water up your nose at the ending. These are probably the Vekoma rides of the waterpark world I guess. I pretty much got 90 degrees on this slide several times. Being in darkness didn't help either which made my girlfriend decide not to ride anymore covered slides from now on, which I don't blame her. 5/10 We rode the Lazy River again, went over to Adventure Bay to shoot some hoops, then I went to ride the last tube slide of the day which was Python's Plunge. This slide was similar to Shark Attack, but the tube aspect made it better and worse at the same time. There were a lot of 90 degree turns, but you really don't want to take an S-curve on these things. It was kind of like riding the Torpdeo Tubes at Dorney Park before they were removed. 6/10 At this point, we only had 2 slides left to ride so we headed over to the Tiki Tree House to take care of them. The first one, we both rode, was the Maui Wowie which was an open-aired body slide. It's not a big slide, but you do go flying down it. We both took one of the turns so fast that we were within only 3 or 4 inches from actually flying off the edge of the slide (I am not making this up, it scared the sh!t out of me)! Then you get the traditional nose-full-of-water-thing at the end. 5/10 The last body slide called the Black Hole, I did by myself. It was pretty much the same as the Maui Wowie, but covered which made the ride better. 7/10 By this time it was 1:30 and her mom and dad were here to pick us up. It took us around 8 to 9 hours and I didn't get home until 11:30 last night. Overall I say that Splash Lagoon has turned me into a waterpark enthusiest/fan. I underestimated how good the place was even if it was inside. I think it actually gave me the urge to go to Wildwater Kingdom this summer. But despite my girlfriend's sore ear and my scraped knees, we both actually liked the placee and give it a 9/10. It themed really nice and is family friendly. We both paid $34.95 a person, but I think we would've saved more money if we went later in the day. The lines wern't terrible, but they could've had a better system. The stairs were only 5 feet wide and they were for 3 slides. What would usually happen is that the tube slides would get a 10 minute line forming on both sides of the stairs and the body slide would be a walk-on. Plus, adding in the part of carrying the tubes up the stairs and it really got crowded as well as confusing. That is pretty much the only complaint I have about the place overall. I have a pretty good season lined up. I will be going to Dorney Park for Physics Day on May 7th, I plan on maybe going again once or twice this summer if possible,Six Flags Great Adventure in May, a trip to Knoebels, my summer vacation which is still unknown, Dorney again in September, Hersheypark again in October and in December. This is the only photo I took of the park. Sorry for the blurriness.

I went yesterday and I am pretty much go into some of what you guys saw. My girlfriend and I got to the park almost 10 minutes after opening. Upon while walking to the tram circle, I witnessed a 7 or 8 year-old kid toss his friend's shoe over a fence and into the tram pathway. You would think that a fence would tell someone not to go in there, but then I see the kid jump the fence, get the shoe, and jump back out. 30 seconds later a tram goes by. From here on out, the day was like a roller coaster ride. We get to Tudor Square only to see a gigantic sea of people stretching from the entrance going all the way back to the Dunkin' Donuts. From here we waited 45 minutes to buy our tickets. You would think it wouldn't take long to buy your admission to get in, but there was a lady in the line that we were in where it took her 5 minutes to buy them and get in. Asking everyone for their zip-code didn't help even though they are probably using that to figure out how far you traveled. Once we were in the door, we decided to ride Fahrenheit first (it wasn't listed to be open on the park map). On the way there, I saw the queue for Starship America full as well as Balloon Flite in Founder's Circle. In Music Box, the line for Reese's was 3/4 of the way full and the Claw had a line 3/4 full with no switchbacks being used. When we got to Fahrenheit, it had a line length similar to when I last rode it. The wait was 30 to 40 minutes and with 2 trains, the ride op. crew were dispatching a train sometimes before the other one was at the station. Just before we got on the ride, some 60 year old guy casually walks over from the elevator and just gets on the ride. He looks like he had no problem walking and would've had no problem waiting in line like everyone else. We sat in the middle car and the ride felt more intense than I remembered. Airtime of the first drop and final hill, good g-forces in the corkscrews, and the norweigon loop was good as well. Around now it was 11:30 so we decided to head down to Midway America before it got worse and ride the high-capacity, Lightning Racer. On the way, the wait for Wild Mouse had the queue 3/4 of the way filled. Lightining Racer had a 15 to 20 minute queue with the line stretching down to the end of the transfer track. The ride had one train operating on both sides when we first got there, but they added the second ones while we were waiting so the wait could've been 5 to 10 minutes. What the park could've done to save time is put both trains into operation before the park opened. The queue TV's were on with the Hersheypark: Sweet Memories video playing. That was first time I've seen them use them. Lightning Racer was good as always. It wasn't rough, but remember to keep your mouth closed (almost ate a bug). Next we went over to ZooAmerica. I haven't been there before so this was my first time and overall I thought it was a great zoo and probably the most fun we had all day. It was also actually a place where we didn't have to wait in a line too! Oh, the prairie dogs say hi, Elissa. lol After more than an hour of looking at the animals and feeding the ducks we went to find a place to eat back inside the park. We didn't want to eat a big meal so we went to the Minetown Restaurant where we saw just about every single food line filled up. We gave up on that place and decided to try Gourmet Grille instead. Inside, the lines were long, but they moved quickly and it was set up just like Minetown Restaurant and sold many Italian foods as well as park food. I got chicken tenders, my girlfriend got mozzarella sticks and we split french fries. The good thing is that I think the food has improved since last year since the fries actually have salt and taste like something good. After we got done eating we wanted to move on to our next coaster. We were going to ride Great Bear, but when I saw the line filled halfway through the queue and the one train operation, it would've been a headache (more on that later too) so we decided to head to Comet. Wrong again. The line was out of the queue and knowing that it usually takes about 45 minutes to wait in half of it, we passed and decided to try Reese's. That last time since I saw that ride that full was on it's grand opening and with the exact same line length, I figured it would take maybe 30 to 45 minutes and with the techno music going, it might go faster. Wrong. It was a 55 to 1 hour wait. I witnessed many people line jump including one case where the father would be in the far back of the line and the mother and children would be at the ride entrance and I'd see them dodge people and go to the father. It was incredible. Then the family in front of us were 5 to 10 minutes from getting on and decided to just leave the line (this was right where you enter the narrow hallway). This had to be the stupidest thing I've seen, but hearing them say, "let's go to a ride with a shorter line" had to take the cake. The big puddle covering 1/4th of the queue didn't help either and the kids splashing around in it didn't help either. Reese's was kind of crappy this time around. The scoring system in the cars didn't work and would put in random numbers such as 448670 points as your score. We next decided to ride a coaster and figuring how Sidewinder hardly ever get's a wait, we decided to give it a shot. Trust me, when Sidewinder has a 20 to 30 minute wait, you know the park is full. The queue used up one switchback heading down to the old refreshment stand (this queue hardly ever get's used). I now hate this ride and wish it would be torn down. The cobra roll slams you around and it is rediculous. Usually I'd get a headache after 2 rides, but it had to have gotten worse because it gave me one in a single shot. Next was Storm Runner which ironically had the shortest wait with around 15 minutes (no switchbacks used). The launch was great as well as everything up to the flying snake dive. The banked rise section has got worse though with it slaming you into the restraint. The brakes were kind of bad as well where instead of a gradual slowdown, it would slow you down, but then slam you forward at the bottom. At this point we were ready to leave, but being the person that I am, I wanted to try Wildcat out to see if it got better. After my girlfriend tried to use the vending machine in line and finding out it didn't work, we waited around 30 minutes (the line was filled up to the bottom of the ramps to the station). This is another coaster I hate as well. First drop was good, everything afterwards was horrible. It was so rough that I was trying to protect myself from getting slammed around. I'd go as far to say that it might be worse than Thunderhawk at Dorney. As we regained our sanity, we went over to see if Great Bear's line died down (which it didn't) so instead we got on SDL. The ride was great, but they really need to fix the brakes on that thing. After that, we left and headed over to Chocolate World, waited 15 minutes (the queue was down to the entrance) for the Tour Ride, had some good pizza, then left. Overall it was my worst experience at Hersheypark, but it would've been even worse if my girlfriend wasn't with me. But we did in the end have fun laughing at how painful and fun the rides were. I do have to wonder if Dorney is better after yesterday, but here's my ratings for the rides: Fahrenheit: 9/10 Lightning Racer: 8/10 RECC: 5/10 Sidewinder: 2/10 Storm Runner: 7/10 Wildcat: 1/10 SDL: 7/10 My next park should be Six Flags Great Adventure on May 2nd then hopefully Dorney Park after that on May 9th. I was thinking about coming back to Hershey in June, but after this visit, I think they lost my summer business for this year and rather go back up to Dorney and save some money. I only took 2 pictures the whole day. Sorry! These were taken with my cell phone and since they came out great, it might be my camera to use this season. -

I'm heading out there on Friday so hopefully because it's a weekday it won't be as full as it will be on Saturday. And while Fahrenheit will be open, I heard from a source that Great Bear might not be open for the first few days because they are waiting on a part. But since the whole park is open (minus the water rides) lines hopefully won't be a big problem. -

I'm still here, it's just that I haven't been logging on because TPR for some reason keeps disconnecting my computer's Internet connection. While I haven't made any progress on the park so far, it is not dead. Just hibernating. I have just gotten tired of the lag and the 20 minutes it takes for the park to load. I plan on starting back up on the park sometime in June or July when I will hopefully get my new laptop. Another question I've been debating is whether or not just skip to just making the 2010 version of the park. This would include removing Canyon River Rapids and adding the Seaquel. -

I think that the photo might actually be the real thing. If you look to the middle far-left of the photo, you can see half of a person who looks to be dressed in a construction uniform. And if you look to the right, there's a pylon covering a concrete footer or something. Plus I really doubt that they are going to just leave the ground under the coaster just dirt and sand or even go through the trouble of CGing up an image of a coaster car on an unfinished jobsite. The cars do look really sweet though. -

Ofcourse PETA would have something to say about this after what happened a year or two ago when the park was looking for new ownership. From the way it sounds, the whale just wanted to play and took it accidentally too far. I think to prevent this problem, maybe trainers should now be required to wear swimcaps. -

As far as modeling, it looks like some of the rides were made on Sketch-Up. If so, then I might be interested in helping you guys out. I took a look through the list of rides already created and it seems like this project has a lot of potiential. -
Agreed. Every picture that everyone is going ga-ga over, I feel like "I've seen this before...like a LONG time before..." Maybe it's just that something like this is new to other people but having traveled around the world and seen a crap load of shows in my time this just is like, I dunno, not impressive to me. At least nothing I've seen so far. It feels more like something from Vegas cira 1998 than it does anything revolutionary. --Robb Let's also not forget that they aren't completely finished with the testing yet. Isn't the show going to have projectors emmitting images on a cloud of mist? If so, then I really don't think this element was used on a show at this scale, correct me if I'm wrong. Either way, it seems like it will be a unique show with a Disney touch.
