  1. Scream also never closed for wind the entire time I was there. The only exception is when we were a bit worried for starting block check in the morning and sending the trains empty the first few times. But once they've done a few cycles there's no worry. Though we were worried, I don't think we ever actually halted opening. It was more or less mechanics hanging around the ride ready for a train not making it around. Revolution though is another story. We went down a bit do to gusty wind. Not so much because of worrying about train stalling or vallying. Which is nearly impossible as the course is nothing but anti-rollback after anti-rollback. But because gusty winds can cause branches to snap or trees to sway their branches out enough to a point in that they hit guests. Going down was always a last resort though. More often then not we would just perform safety rides every 15-30 minutes to ensure no new hazards along the track area.
  2. I'm posting my "9/11 8th anniversary" thread when I get home tonight then.
  3. Mobile Sheriff's substation. Haha. Honestly though , I use to see them all the time doing road work adjacent to the guest parking on lot Feedmill Rd. Why its stopped there...not sure.
  4. I wish I had people. =( But really, is it that had to just sit back and watch without critiquing the park's every move?
  5. You know, most people don't order others at all. Seriously dude, when asking for favors in life your attitude should really change or else I don't think your going to get very far. In fact I'm shocked you got this far in this thread. Thin ice my friend.... -Mike
  6. That's part of SF's "Load and Go" procedure too. Though, it was hardly ever enforced. -Mike
  7. ^ BANNED. Remember EVERYONE, you may not post stories about breaking park rules!! It is not allowed. Any violation of a park rule is a violation rule of the site as well! Its in the TOS found here! http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=137 15. Obey Park Rules - If you're going to make a post bragging about breaking park rules, which includes but it not limited to: sneaking cameras on rides, line jumping, standing up on coasters, or any other park rule, you're account will be deleted and your IP address banned. Do NOT post about breaking park rules! The TOS is VERY clear. Thank you! -Mike
  8. ^ Maybe someone stole the computer that displays the current temp. -Mike
  9. "In the "spirit of full disclosure", I am biased--but no more so than the bitter ex-Magic employees that post on the boards. " Not sure if you were referring to me or not - but anyway, congrats on the good count! Now if only they can either maintain that third train or convert the positive energy into a 2 or 1 train operation then that would be really awesome. I'll post as I see - I'm sorry if the good to bad ratio isn't on par with what you would want. But in my eyes hearing that the Tatsu crew handled a downtown good is a bit too little too late. Sure, I'm glad they did... but its just something that they should be use to be now...and have perfected at this point! If it isn't operation with 3 trains, then perhaps there should be something to take the unoccupied time that arises with the loss of a train. Whether it be double checking, more spieling, maybe enforcing the 10-5 guest interactive rule in between trains. Something that can create a rhythm in its own when the ride isn't operating at maximum capacity. -Mike
  10. The problem is that many of the employees are kids there for the summer and could care less about the lack of a break room or other usually mandatory benefits. If someone starts complaining then there's nothing saying they won't just hire more and more kids who don't care about those things to out voice those who do. There's absolutely no union either for anyone to talk to, so don't go looking there for help. From personal experience and experience from a close friend if you do go out of your way, spend your OWN money, and such to create a nicer break room or one at all. Things WILL get stolen! Things will go missing! Over $50.00 worth of things I bought for a ride were stolen within a 48 hour period. -Mike
  11. I don't think the breakroom changed locations. As its simply a room with walls that don't go all the way up to the ceiling.. and the track literally right on top of you. In fact the next time you guys go on scream... when the floor drops look to your lower left and you'll see it! Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the airhorn opened with Scream. So it was probably placed in after the construction of the rooms downstairs. The reason for having it there...and leaving it there is probably a combination of lack of caring for employee satisfaction and lack of money. The two and two go hand in hand quite often. -Mike
  12. Well, let's see the two rides I spent the longest time at was Revolution and Scream. Revolution didn't have a breakroom. There was an area below the transfer track area next to the PLC room that had ONE small chair next to a giant pile of dirt. Scream had a fairly big breakroom...had a table or two. Nothing else...oh yeah AND the air horn was located in the break room! Yeah, the hospitality was lovely. Although I agree, usually workers have no place to go on their short 10 minute breaks! -Mike
  13. Its completely unacceptable for rides to go down. Completely. -Mike
  14. Doesn't sound like too horrible of a day. Especially if the worst thing was a slow Tatsu crew - which is mandatory it seems upon visit. Although the park opens late ( 10-:30 ) which I do agree is a bit late.. I'm going to have to disagree that there's no excuse for having a ride down upon park opening. Every park has it occur every once in a while, and there's no way around it. Technical problems occur during early morning testing, and sometimes can't get worked out until after park opening. Sure you could argue that they should start earlier, but even if they do start earlier and finish earlier -- that still leaves you with a margin of time for the attraction to go down. Now, if its down due to a late block check due to low staff then that's a bit inexcusable. -Mike
  15. Well, I was the lead at Batman from Feb - June of 08' and I can tell you about the lighting situation. Usually the 'stage lights' would turn on about 20 minutes or so after turning on the ride itself... I never knew why the delay but that's just the way it was. On the main panel we had a few switches for "Show mode" -- all of them did nothing. If the show lights didn't turn I would always call it in for an electrician to come out and turn them on before the park opened. As soon as 10 AM or 10:30 hit ( depending on park opening ) I demanded the ride go into "show mode" something much to the dislike of every ride op and co-lead I ever worked with. Basically all we had left of show mode was for the stage lights to be on and the work lights to be off in the station and back transfer area. However it wasn't uncommon for me to call multiple times and nobody would ever come out and turn on the stage lights for us. In that case the station work lights would remain on for safety reasons, as it really gets pitch black in there. The only time I'd allow work lights to be turned on during normal hours when we had fully operational stage lights as in the event of. -Down time ( When I felt communication was stronger when ride ops and guests could actually see each other when explaining the situation ) -Vomit Clean up. -Lost Article searching. And that's it! But trust me, as soon as I would leave to go on a break , lunch , or sign out for the day those lights would turn right back on. Frankly because non of my co-workers ( both ops and leads ) really cared at all. However, I will give props to the supervisors as they always wanted the ride to operator in show mode. So, sorry! I know that was a long story for such a simple problem. But a lot of people always came up and asked me about the lighting situation in the batcave...and well from front line experience ... there ya go! -Mike
  16. To be nerdy here for a second... its actually less than 90. I don't think its even 89. And the thought of something BEYOND vertical is trippy man....mind blowing. -Mike
  17. http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21366 Please post all random videos in THIS thread. Please elaborate also when posting videos. Though I know for a fact that this video isn't recent. Thank you. Thread locked. -Mike
  18. I totally forget which video it was, but someone wrote something along the lines of "Thread Failure". -Mike L to the O to the CKED.
  19. Something like that would be nearly impossible to enforce. Not that I don't think its what the park need -- but realistically cell phones and other electronic gadgets shouldn't be an issue. They should be taken care of by the initiative of management, as low as leads. However I can tell you first hand no such initiative exists there, maybe a small handful. The proper course of action is strict discipline to violations of already in place rules. An idea that I had once was some sort of a branch off of the safety department / security department that would patrol the midways and their sole purpose would be to keep up high show and safety quality. They would have say " jurisdiction " over all the departments and would work closely with HR. Hopefully the two could override any sort of lesser punishment that the individual's department would attempt to suggest. Again, this was just an idea that I had, but knowing the park's current budget struggle it somewhat makes this idea impossible. What's best for the park is that they keep on the direction that they've been going on hopefully somewhere down the line they'll be able to crack down on issues such as these. -Mike
  20. Glad to see you're all having a good time. I'm having my own West Coast trip right now.... starting with , and probably ending with Universal Studios. Be jealous all'yalz. -Mike
  21. I'll add to the agreement that X2 uses too little mist in the ditches of the ravens. Yeah, its noticeable -- but thats it. Does anyone know if the safety warnings were updated with the reopening of X to include the new fire and 'fog' effects. Maybe the only thing I can think of is that if they used any more mist or 'fog' they'd have to update the warnings to include one more restriction. Perhaps legal hassle , or simply budget reasons...don't know! -Mike
  22. Today I went around the park for a few hours with a couple of friends. Wasn't a horrible visit but it was FAR from good. Overall the park seemed a bit more dirtier than it has in the past. Meaning just random debris floating around. Nothing out of the ordinary though, so I'll leave you the pain and simply write the bullets. The Good + + Fast Colossus crew +Fast & Friendly Viper crew + Thomas Town ride ops seemed very "on show" and 'integrity'. + Lots of characters - including one face character. ( The Riddler ) ----- And the bad. - Park was dirty. -Deja vu single ride line was closed. -Just about every employee walking around the park either had their shirt tucked out or had a cell phone out. - None of the workers seemed to care about their job. - Batman crew was horrible slow. - Tatsu took almost 30 minutes with flashpasses. One train one station operation during summer. There was literally no more than 10 people ahead of us too, and it still took 30 minutes. Overall the park just seemed VERY old magic. -Mike
