Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

^Beat me to it. ^^Are you talking about the new entrance across the midway from TTD's station (right beside Super Himalaya)? Or the old entrance closer to Corkscrew's corkscrews (ha!). -

The Zamperla Air Race would be an AWESOME addition! It was the big hit of Coney Island from the NE Trip last year. It was a very unique attraction. I think we rode it 3 or 4 times. If they could build a larger version with higher capacity, it could be a great addition to Wonderland's line-up of flats. -

Hopefully this massive overhaul will be the final fix for this prototype Huss Jump2. If the park is willing to fix it, why remove a very unique ride to replace it with a generic S&S Screamin' Swing? There's plenty of room in the park to put that type of flat. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

CWCoasterboy and I are heading down to Cedar Point for Thursday evening and all day Friday. We've already purchased our Fast Lane passes! Just a quick question about Luminosity... Where's the best viewing spot and how early should we get there to beat the crowd? I've also heard very mixed reviews of the show. Any thoughts from regulars that have seen it? -

I don't understand how it seems "murky" when Paramount Great America and Carowinds both got B&M inverts. Why only an SLC for Canada's Wonderland? There had to be a reason for the one off. -

Well, obviously if they just got a memo from B&M saying they would not build them a ride, they could not have been "SO CLOSE" to signing a deal.. They had the plans ready to go. All they had to do was sign the paperwork. Norm said he personally received a call from Walter Bolliger stating that their plans had to be scrapped due to the CP clause. At this point, Dick Kinzel was called and asked if an exception could be made. He refused. So the plan of a B&M was tossed out and a Vekoma SLC was put in its place. On top of that, we were only within 2 miles of the cut-off point. I would say it's SO CLOSE... -

Leviamania was definitely a huge success. Thanks to everyone that attended. It was a bit hard to hear at times, so I wanted to share this tidbit of information from the Q&A (Norm, Park GM): Canada's Wonderland was meant to get a B&M inverted intead of the Vekoma SLC model! The deal was ready to be signed HOWEVER, Cedar Point had an exlusivity deal that B&M could not build another invert with 200 miles (as the crow flies) of the park. Canada's Wonderland is at the 198 mile mark. Cedar Point refused to let Wonderland build what could have been an AMAZING invert. So we got what we did. It REALLY hurts to know we were SO CLOSE to having a B&M invert instead... -

Sledgehammer was operating this past weekend. And apparently the tunnel has been painted the same colour as the track. I'll have pictures tomorrow morning. -

The tunnel was just added last week. Officials from the park have mentioned that there is landscaping they still need to complete. And they're hoping that Sledgehammer will be operational again this weekend -

There are still tunnel pieces to put up... There is also A LOT of landscaping still to be done around the entire Leviathan course. -

All I can say is... IT`S ABOUT TIME! After ALL the coverage over this off-season, I`m so excited I was able to FINALLY ride this beast! As others have mentioned, I can`t wait to ride this when it`s above freezing It was definitely a great event. Along with CWMania and TPR, I was able to spend some time with a few of the local Toronto news stations too: http://toronto.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20120427/canadas-wonderland-Leviathan-120427/20120427/?hub=TorontoNewHome Only the service lights are up right now... I have a feeling that may change soon -

You get a full charitable donation tax receipt for the entire amount. So if you typically donate to Sick Kids, this is a great way to get your year's donation in with a bonus back for you. Not to mention, quite a few of the higher bids are companies/organizations. -

^I one of them! I normally donate $50/month to Sick Kids Hospital. These types of events are a great way to bump up my annual contribution every few years - not to mention the opportunity to be a part of a great event! Hopefully I'll see some fellow TPR members there. I can also assure people that the tunnel has been in the works for quite some time, it's not just a last minute addition. I don't think it's the duration of the tunnel that will matter, it's the head-chopper effect you'll get at the bottom of that first drop. -

If you're considering Porter Air, be sure to hold off until they have another one of their promotional sales. They come up every month or two and have slashed fares up to 50% off in their most recent sale. They also provide free beer and wine on their flights -

Leviathan really stands out at night right now. Other than Leviathan, the entire park is dark (aside from the lights in the parking lot). These are just the services lights that most likely won't be on during regular operating hours. I believe there's a proper light package being installed (perhaps something similar to Behemoth's chaser lights or some other flood lights). -

Stopped by the park tonight after work. The service lights along the lift and brake run are the only lights currently on. They were running all 3 trains on the course at the same time. Testing was still happening as I was leaving after 9pm. The trains seemed to be running about as fast as they have in the videos I've shared (temperature was near freezing tonight - maybe below with the wind chill). Life hill and brake run all lit up at night. You can see the blur of the train going through the beginning of the brake run. Another angle of the lift & brakes lit up with the service lights. Notice where this train was stopped. I can only imagine how HARD that stop would have been (notice how the train is just completely in the brake area). -
The Mysterious B&M Green Wingrider Track
kunpc1 replied to GigaG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
With the Ohio plant being the only spot B&M's are manufactured, I would say this isn't too early for track to be coming out for 2013. I know years ago, it was mentioned that they only produced 3 coasters per year. However, I believe they have 6 opening this year (5 for sure). It doesn't seem as though their facilities have doubled so I guess they just fabricate the structure as quickly as they can now. This is all based on what I've heard, so take it with a grain of salt -

You can hear when the brakes are "opened" or "closed" as they are pneumatically controlled. You just won't hear the typical "scraping" noise made by the B&M friction brakes as there won't be any physical contact between the train & braking system. -

The magnetic trims are silent. The only way to know if they've been engaged is to feel is as you go by them. It was definitely moving fast though. The barrel roll/over bank just after the first drop looks incredible!
