Does anyone else really want to play on the stairs!? Or is that just me? -
Voodoo looks like the perfect new attraction for Dorney Park! I'm extremely happy they saved this ride! The last time I was at Geauga Lake and rode it, it sounded and felt AWFUL. Definately needed to get the refurb! All Dorney Park really needs now is a nice new wooden coaster (even though Thunderhawk was awesome last year I when I was there) to round out it's collection!

Looking good! Thanks for sharing the pictures! Leaving the station and seeing that lift hill in front of you is going to be really intimidating! -

Ohhhh.. that's kind of dumb to only have a webcam that works during regular business hours! lol. Well.. judging by the webpage.. it looks like they will just be Storm Runner trains only silver. Guess thats a good thing! -

^ I could be wrong but I thought from the start we had problems finding all 11 because they were spread over a bunch of different websites. I doubt there will be any testing for Fahrenheit today because the weather is looking pretty nasty outside! The webcam still says 4-18 too. Maybe they are hiding some kind of new train! ...... ok probably not... -

^ I still plan on being there. I guess we never figured out who all 11 were? This is the first day its open to the public. I wonder when the media day will be? -
I completely agree Wes.. there's always been something that has struck me as being really "off" about the park. I think you hit the nail on the head. Its taking a very Disney-like approach to Nirvana and who knows what else. Kind of like Wal Mart! I'll feel better once they add the Marilyn Manson themed kiddie area. I might make a lot of people hate me.. but does anyone feel like the park as a whole is kind of.. uninspired? I dont want to judge too harshly yet, and I think in a few more years the park is going to be amazing! But I think there's a lot of unfilled potential as of right now.

They should've gotten the proper permits before they started building and all.. but still! This seems like its just some local politicians trying to make a name for themselves. I can't even imagine the amount of money that SFNE pumps in to the local economy.. hotels.. restaurants.. taxes.. you name it! You would think.. especially how regional parks *could* see a decent rise in attendence this year because people cant afford the big multi day vacations.. that they wouldn't have gone as far as to shut down/stall the construction on a ride that will ultimately help local business.

Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
CoasterEricHP replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It all really depends on how far Hershey wants to take the waterpark aspect. There were *rumors* a few years ago that this was only sort of a "tester" to see if a full size waterpark would be worthwhile. Hershey got their answer last year with the huge jump in attendence. Thats all a rumor, but obviously there's a lot of money to be made in a big waterpark... even a year round market if they did part of a big waterpark indoors. Everyone who lives in central PA knows that there's NOTHING TO DO HERE! (However the new casino at Penn National is pretty cool) So maybe in a few years the waterpark, which really doesnt have anything that would be too too hard to move to a new location yet, will be located in a seperate park! That's just something to make you go "Hmmm..."... In my opinion, the annoucement is so early because CRR is on the chopping block and they'll need to close it mid-summer for deconstruction. And its been far too long with Hershey speculation without a map illustrating everything! Sadly, looking at it from above.. if they are going to expand the waterpark.. CRR is right next door. I just hope they leave some of the trees! Picture from Virtual Earth -

Sadly... it'll never happen! It would be cool though! They could get away with a lazy river where Canyon River Rapids was.. and then get this.. a drop tower like Drop Zone at PKD.. only with an awesome red to blue gradient paint job! It'd be beautiful.. *tear* -

From the people I know who work at the park you better ride Canyon River Rapids while you still can! I'll be hoping for something that "drops" the temperature... like a free fall tower!! yeah!! That's all I've ever wanted at Hershey! But back to reality.. Hershey has all of the water attractions it needs at the Boardwalk.. and the Boardwalk has been a HUGE success (what was it.. a 9% rise in attendence?) so it makes sense that Canyon River Rapids would go.. it has a HUGE footprint easily large enough for a wave pool and a lazy river.. .... and drop tower... themed to a thermometer.. That is all, Eric -
USF Dueling Dragons
CoasterEricHP replied to Leekak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If what they say is accurate.. you'll be fine with Dragons until like.. Sept '09. It'd make sense to close it down sometime after the peak summer season is over. With Unicorn. I was told July/August all the way until what.. Dec '09 when Potter opens? And yeah.. the Hulk should be.. launch, zero g, cobra, loop, break run, station IMO Except the drop off the MCB is the best part of the ride.. -

From what I hear from the people I still keep in touch from when I used to work at Dragons/Unicorn.. Dragons will be shutting down for 2 months prior to the open of Potter. So.. over a year away.. Unicorn on the other hand is apparently rumored to be closing down sometime this summer, and WONT reopen until Potter. So that will be closed for over a year! Obviously it shouldnt take too long to make the changes to Unicorn.. but with the construction so close to Unicorn, it'll have an extensive downtime. So.. enjoy the lifthill pictures of Hogwarts while we still can! -

It still seems weird to me that the coaster is facing the opposite way then I thought it would be going! I didnt think the Cobra Roll was going to be next to a parking lot! Looking AMAZING though! Did we ever decide if the trains will be the same design as Storm Runner? Just another similarity! -

Geez.. the Norwegian Loop is a BEAST. I love Norway for many reasons . I also love how the top of it is completely unsupported. Kind of scary! -

Hershey is such a pretty park! Thank god they try to keep trees (the Boardwalk excluded.. sigh..) I think there's still ONE place in the park for some good self medication tho -

I agree with you for the most part KFConcepts.. For example.. imagine if Islands of Adventure built Kumba in Jurassic Park. They are both very similar rides and you can easily compare the two with the exception of one having a launched lift and the other a standard one. That's how I see this. Has any other park built a same style ride back to back recently? You could say Wildcat/Lightning Racer.. but the Great Bear mixed that up. Again. I don't think anyone here is bashing Fahrenheit. I think it's a great addition to Hershey's already great line up of coasters...(and those new pictures are damn sexy!) but I would love to have been there to see what the process was that led to Hershey to decide on another sit down looper as opposed to the tons of other coaster types out there. I dont even think we know who the 11 are.. let alone the 12th! I dont think its a media day thing though because in the letter it says we can bring a friend but the ride portion won't be open to them, but they can ride with the general public later in the day. Hershey tends to open up new coasters early.. At least in 2000 they opened up Lightning Racer for a company buyout/picnic a few weeks before the actual opening day! I was lucky enough to be there and ride it! It wasn't racing very well though then.. I work for a local news station out of York, so I'll let you know if there's a media day for it! -

I'm still surprised Hershey is even building something on the scale of Fahrenheit after the CEO (or someone) said in an interview last summer that you won't be seeing anything huge for awhile because that's not the market they are aiming for. I'm also skeptical of how the public will react to Fahrenheit. Most probably won't even compare it to Storm Runner, but it seems so strange for a park to build two really similar sit down looping steel coasters within a few years of each other. Going to be interesting! Obviously 2009 is a Boardwalk expansion year. I guess i'm old fashioned and still dont understand why they built a waterpark in the middle of a relatively landlocked park! But.. it's obviously very successful! Hopefully in 2010 we'll get to see something that competes (at least in height and airtime) with Steel Force, Superman:ROS, and Phantoms Revenge! By no means am I dissing Fahreheit by the way! I just hope it offers something that Storm Runner doesnt.. plus it'll hopefully make the line for the Comet shorter Still waiting on that drop tower too! Eric
