Such wonderfully cool looking pieces of engineering. That 3rd last photo is art that you can ride. -

Corey Taylor from Slipknot annoyed by ‘Dumb Invention’ Speaking with NME, the vocalist was asked about the emergence of Selfie Sticks and he let rip with a classic rant. “Oh my *****ing God, Selfie Sticks, **** me. Whenever I see one I’m like ‘Seriously?!’ There’s a whole ****ng industry making hundreds of thousands of dollars probably every day just so we can take big ****ing pictures of our own stupid faces?” -
Yep, this is HUGE. Such a massive step forward. YAY!

I just got back from a 1/2 day at the park. I hadn't planned on going today, but a 9am meeting in Vaughan got cancelled after I had already arrived. I suddenly had the entire morning free, a coaster skyline in my rearview mirror and a Platinum Pass burning a rectangular (with circular edged) hole in my wallet. Yay me. In just over 3 hours I managed to ride Leviathan (x 2), Behemoth (x2), Psyclone, Sledge Hammer, Backlot, Windseeker, Vortex, Shockwave, and Drop Tower. I also ate an entire HUGE box of BBQ flavoured popcorn for breakfast. Pretty good for a day during which the expected highlight was to have been a dreadfully boring 4 hour presentation. I also took one photo. The singular photo that was taken. -
The link to the awesome video mentioned in the article of DMX screaming like a (badass) little girl on the Sling Shot is here: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/videos/ruff-flyers-dmx-screams-on-orlando-sling-shot-ride-20140729 It's comedic gold.

The actual link to the auction is here: https://paddle8.com/work/tupac-shakur/70235-tupac-on-roller-coaster $2,000 does seem like a pretty sweet deal for a SFMM Viper on-ride photo.

source: ROLLING STONE Autographed 1992 souvenir shows rapper riding the Viper at Six Flags Magic Mountain In 1992, the year after releasing his debut studio album, 2Pacalypse Now, Tupac Shakur decided to visit Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California. After waiting in line, he strapped into the Viper roller coaster, which automatically took his souvenir picture during an exciting peak of the ride. Now that amazing photograph – which features an autograph on the back – is being sold to the highest bidder as part of auction house Paddle8's "Legendary Sale." A previous auction listing describes the item as "most likely unique color laser print souvenir photo," in "fine condition" and housed in the "original 6.25 x 4.75 Magic Mountain Viper folder." The reverse features a personalized black ballpoint autograph from the rapper-actor to his roller coaster seatmate "Daniel," which reads, "Peace Daniel, Be a Homie. 2Pac." The piece is accompanied by a letter of provenance from the original owner, which describes the chance encounter with a burgeoning hip-hop legend. "In 1992, while attending Six Flag’s Magic Mountain...Tupac Shakur happened to be in front of me in the line," Daniel wrote in the message. "This roller coaster takes a picture of all the occupants on the ride, to be purchased as a souvenir photo. Since Tupac Shakur went on the roller coaster the same time as I did, I purchased a souvenir photo card which contained the picture of him...I approached Tupac Shakur with the souvenir photo card of him and asked him if he would autograph the photo card for me, which he gladly obliged." It's worth noting that while the three other people in the picture appear to be smiling with delight, Tupac's expression is stoic – as if the roller coaster's winding turns aren't fazing him a bit. (Unlike DMX, who shouted some intense gibberish during his viral-friendly amusement park outing). Tupac Shakur on a roller coaster Autograph

I just love the line "Basically, KidZania is the coolest theme park that no one on this forum is allowed to visit!" That actually made me audibly laugh. -

I was joking. I would never condone the tossing of french fries at anyone. Well, hardly anyone. And I actually like seagulls too. -

Teenagers at amusement parks are like seagulls at the beach. You just accept that it's their domain, then toss a french fry at them and hope they go bother someone else. -

I understand the apprehension about the interstate. I thought the same thing when I first saw the site. Tractor trailer drivers speeding past chicks in bikinis does seem like a recipe for disaster. Still, the proximity between the two resort hotels is pretty great. Assuming they'll allow in/out for resort guests it would be such a chill day to hang out at the park for a bit, skip over to your room for a break/beer/nap, head back to the waterpark. I can see myself really enjoying that. The one thing about waterparks for me is I tend to need relief from the screaming children and chlorine shinky dink every couple of hours.

Looking at side by side satellite shots of both Volcano Bay's construction zone and Typhoon Lagoon it looks to me like there is a similar (rather large) amount of space to work with. Much more so than that of Wet ' Wild's current location. It also appears there's a parking allotment in the ripped up area across the street (on the East side of the construction zone, directly South of Loews Royal Pacific).

I've got to put in another vote for the Windseekers. The rides themselves are somewhat mediocre, but at night that Pink Floyd quality light display just commands your attention from across any park. -
What's your favorite Flat ride?
BugEyed replied to FlyingScooter's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I just love "The Rotor". I rode one for the first time as a child at Boblo Island in Ontario. I begged and pleaded to go on it but my Mom flat out refused to let me. My Dad and I ditched my Mom at some point (sorry Mom) and went on it together. It was my first real "grown up" ride and it freaked me out and changed my life all at once. The last one I rode was in 2011 at Luna Park in Sydney, Australia. Brought back so many great childhood memories. Anyone know if there are still any operational Rotors around? Valravn is a fantastic name. Wish I'd thought of it when I was naming my ferrets (or my band, come to think of it). Maybe I'll just get Valravn tattooed across my shoulders in Olde English. Hmmm -

I stopped taking pictures midday, but I can report that activity on the site only continued to increase throughout the afternoon yesterday. And yes, there was a cement truck. Of course none of this is even remotely definitive, and I'll be the first to admit that my knowledge of landscaping is pretty much nil, but I'm pretty sure what I saw yesterday was more than prep work for just sprinklers and sod. -

I'm at Canada's Wonderland right now and just overheard two guys discussing "a brand new amusement park in Salt Lake City that just opened a 500 foot tall roller coaster that shoots you out the top of an abandoned missile silo". People are funny. -

Agreed. The vast amount of activity today makes me think there is a chance that something is on the horizon. In addition to the bulldozer (which has been going at it all day) I've also watched several panel vans come and go plus a couple of small groups of people in hard hats walking the perimeter of the site. It's anyone's guess at this point, but seeing such a high volume of attention on the area does seem like a good sign. -

I'm in the park now. Got here at 9:45, was immediately let in and waited with about 20 other people for the rope drop (next to Flight Deck). As is my tradition, I started my CW season off with a dozen laps on Behemoth; the first 4 without having to leave the train. Love that so much. Overall Behemoth is running exceptional this year, BUT the first dispatch was one of the best I've ever had. All trims were off and the MCBR was super dialed back. We flew through the MCBR like it wasn't even there and hit the helix at a speed I've never experienced on Behemoth before. The next 10 or 11 rides weren't quite that, but were still great. Seriously, that first ride was everything you could ever hope for. Fantastic. Anyway, I ventured over to Timberwolf, did my best to spot the markers everyone was talking about and couldn't see anything. Sorry. I know that's not what you want to hear, but there just weren't any visible to me. With the path over to Splash Works closed there really isn't a good vantage point now, at least until Timberwolf actually opens for the season. I did take a bunch of shots from Windseeker's queue. The blue markers are scattered everywhere across SkyRider's former spot and there was a bulldozer pushing dirt around (and being attacked by geese... funny stuff). Here are the crappy iPhone pix I've taken (mostly of dirt) so far today... Yes, the path is closed. Not much of a surprise there. Nothing to see from here. Basically a pointless photo. Dirt and blue markers all over the place From Windseeker's queue A bulldozer is bulldozing. This was about 3 minutes after those geese chased down the driver and freaked him right out. More dirt It's now 2pm and the park is still mostly empty. It's a beautiful sunny day; time to stop fiddling with my phone and go ride stuff!
