Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

OMG I said that yesterday, about thunder road. Racing coasters are unique in themselves so having a concerted racing coaster would have been good! Could have had a high five element, a stall/airtime element and a zro g/airtime element! But alas, that cant happen now. -

On my first ride, one woman had to exit the train. Now, I consider myself fat (im actual american standard obese). I am 5'8" and weight is between 255-265 at times. I had to get a push or two to get completely green light-ed but I was still able to ride. My weight is fairly distributed and I do have some muscle mass as well so I can see how it can be a problem with some larger people riding. As far as the ride . . . I have said, even from the beginning before it was confirmed it was getting converted, Hurlers layout would be the weakest layour RMC would have to work. It's basically a coaster with 4 right hand turns and some airtime hills after the initially drop. I have to consider that while riding it and can only compare it to what it replaced honestly. I think they did a good job with revitalizing this coaster by building up on the current layout and structure. Loved the first drop-version while riding in the front, liked the 3 back-to-back airtime hiils as they were not as violent as some coasters I have been on, LOVED LOVED the middle part of the ride (from the cutback to the first 90 degree turn). Aside from the drop-verison, I didn't really feel the stomach-in-throat feeling. There was plenty of ejector air, especially on the three hills, but not much "drop tower" like air as far as my two rides went. However the two sweet spots for that, to me, where before and the drop after the photo spot. They put that in a very sweet spot! NOW should carowinds follow suit? Not right now. I think hurler at carowinds has a different condition and among different company than KD's. KD still has 2 more adult size wooden coasters so hurler really isnt a major loss. If I ran the world, I would ONLY convert hurler under the condition a new wooden coaster were to be built prior to it happening. And I wouldn't want both RMC hurlers to have the same layouts, but I would keep the middle section the same lol, its damn near perfect. -

Rode it twice, once in the last car and once in the second car. For me this is a closer to the front ride. The three airtime hills back to back were a highlight and the drops before and after the photo spot were pretty crazy! -

I appreciate tidbits being dropped every now and then. Proof isn't always needed. It's not like he was being a "I know something you don't know" jerk about it. To me, it's all good for speculation. No expanding needed or "required". Cedarfair1 . . . Thanks for your contributions. I, for one, enjoy them and I personally don't need proof aliens exist to back up your claims . -

I don't think any SANE person will go to Dollywood and be disappointed that they installed a "cloned" coaster. If the only gripe anyone has about this expansion is a cloned coaster than the folks at Dollywood is doing something right. I don't know about you all but when I first saw that family invert I was VERY interested in riding it but figured I would never as I don't see myself traveling overseas in a long time. Guess what, it looks like I don't have to wait! SO to those who are complaining about it being a cloned coaster . . . get real! Know what else is a cloned coaster, Mega-lites. -

I think people are focusing more on the "tube" than the grand scheme of things. Vekoma is known for using that style in their renderings. Also, the supports show the tube hanging from them vs supporting them from the bottom. One thing that interest me is if this is gonna be a one way in place like timber canyon was or a complete circuit? I think timber canyon got away with it being it's location of entrance was near the front but it appears you enter this area near the back of the park. -

But there is nothing "unique" on it that we can't find on any run of the mill wing rider coaster right? -

Ok what new elements does Wild Eagle have? Even with this coaster Dollywood would STILL be unique. But you know who really cares about that, US coaster folks. -

So the part you want to be real, is real lol. Ask yourself this question, how many time has a park gone before a board with fake plans with "placeholder" items to fool the public. Remember, this is a hobby for us and a business for them. They may tease us but they aren't gonna make fake plans just to throw people off. -

Based on what? Why go through the trouble of making fake blueprints and actually build something different. You do know presenting that you are doing exactly is a requirement. Theme parks know we are a minority, they also know we will snoop and find things. They aren't that concern about things getting out as much as you would think they should be. -

What if Dollywood figured the current layout of that coaster is already fantastic. That model has not made it to the US yet so why not use it? I think you are thinking far too much into this. Virtually every coaster type at dollywood has no "standard" model anyway. -

On the contrary, we ARE all guessing . . . even me. Nothing has been officially stated about this project. Some of our guessing is based on logic and concrete evidence, some are based on hopes. -

Everyone is guessing it's enclosed and has "fans" on it lol based on that image. I would think if it were enclosed, we wouldn't see a layout, but rather a building in it's place . . . -

I've seen plenty blueprints that made the track look like a "tube". I think people are reading too much into that. Case in point . . . -

Firechaser is taller than these coasters but 10 mph slower. Calling a coaster a "family" coaster is really subjective. This coaster, wholistically, is a family coaster. I mean, their 200ft tall drop tower is considered a "family" attraction. -

Everything being cleared doesn't have to be for the actual expansion. There still needs to be infrastructure and things like that . . .
