  1. Premiere have done a reasonable amount of high profile projects in recent waht with 3 Italian Jobs and 2 Mummies. I think LIM technologyu allows more control of a ride compared to just a straight forward launch. S&S must have a reasonable turn over with the number of tower rides and Screaming Swings being sold. Altough it is possible they have lost money as some of their new rides have had operating problems. If they do go bankrupt could this hint that 4D coasters are cursed. Would any company want to build another 4D coaster. Good luck Intamin.
  2. Looking forward to riding this one on a planned trip to Russia. Also be good to ride a few Pax coasters.
  3. Cobra runs single car trains, like a wild mouse. They took all but 2 cars off the track for us. We couldn't use a small lipstick camera as we can't connect those to our radio link back to the satellite truck and they're not totally broadcast quality. So we had to use a relatively large Sony Z1. We needed the shot to be as steady as possible so used 2 magic arms to mount the camera to the lapbar plus a 3rd to stop the camera rotating and then ratchet straps going off in 3 other directions for additional bracing. Some of the additional mounting kit you can see is for the radio transmitter. OH and the BBC requires everything to have safety lines so the camera, lens, radio transmitter, magic arms all required lanyards in case they came loose. So yet more complicated mounting gear.
  4. Yesterday I had to rig an on ride camera on Cobra at Paultons Park for the BBC to do a live weather forecast from Cobra as it was going around the track. You can see the video at http://www.bbc.co.uk/hampshire/content/articles/2006/06/08/roller_coaster_feature.shtml It was one of the funiest bit of TV I've seen for years. Nice to have a HD recording of the POV of Cobra. Just need to buy a TV that shows HD.
  5. I think this is great news. I visited Kings Island this year and it was one of the worst days out I've ever had in a theme park. I've never had a bad day in a Cedar Fair park so hopefully things at PKI will improve. As for prices I felt PKI was far worse than CP. One place was charging $6 for a tiny portion of fresh cooked chips.
  6. As we're not just limited to coasters I have to say without a doubt that G Force at Old Town Kissimme has the best launch. It's the only ride I've been on in years and got off shaking. The acceleration is just so intense and lasts for so long. I guess I should list it as my favourite non coaster ride. Coaster wise TTD is my favourite launch as it also lasts for quite a while. Although other coasters have more powerful launches they don't last long enough eg Hypersonic.
  7. There is at least three of these doing the UK fair circuit. One of them is called Stargate and usually covers fairs in the South. The generic name for this ride seems to be Megaspin. Some of them are seated models whilst others are standing. Details of the UK models can be found http://allthefunofthefair.co.uk/megaspin.html There is another ride that is similar to the Move It called Superstar. It was/is built by Northern Amusements. I actually prefer them to Move Its.
  8. I have been there 3 times over the past 4 years and really like it. Sure the staff are rude and if you don't speak French then things can be tricky at times but it's still a nice park in an unusal setting almost under a bridge. On one occasion whilst riding Le Monstre they stopped the trains on the lift hill whilst they took 2 trains off the track. The problem was after we'd been sat there for half an hour with no announcements some people started to panic and climbed out the train to walk down the lift hill just as they started the chain again. The Vampire is one of the most intense B&M's I've ever been on and I almost greyed out on one go. I can recommend going during the Summer months when they are hosting the Firework Championships. The displays are absolutley superb, non stop in your face action. So it's worth visiting just don't expect the best cusomer service or the most efficient ride operations.
  9. The ride meant it became dislodged and she started to feel pain. If it hadn't moved then she wouldn't have notcied any symptoms until it was too late for treatment. The incident actually happened a few months ago. But has only just been made publicly aware.
  10. I use to work for a regional news program that covers the Gloucester area and they phoned me up to get some footage.
  11. Yep you read the title right. In a complete contrast to the many discussions of accidents where people have died, this time someone was saved as a result of riding a coaster. A woman from Gloucester in the UK rode Hulk at IOA and came off feeling dizzy and sick. She was rushed to hospital where it was discovered she had a brain tumour. Had she not ridden the Hulk the symptons wouldn't have appeared until much later in its development and she would have died. So the Hulk saved her life. Makes a nice change from the usual roller coaster can kill stories.
  12. Amex isn't the most widely accepted card in Europe. Large places should take it but due to the high costs for the retailler a lot of smaller places don't accept it. You're better off with either a Visa or Mastercard. On occasions I've not been able to use my Amex but never had an issue with Mastercard. As has already been said in the UK we are hot on using Pin numbers instead of signatures. So make sure you know what your Pin number is.
  13. Only really used Avid and Quantel Edit Box but it sounds like you have the time line active and it is taking the enter command to be play. You need to click on another window, possibly preview, and then press enter for it to render. The keyboard commands do different things depending on which window is active. Failing that you using the mouse you need to highlight your entire piece, mark an in and and out on the time line, and then choose Time Line > Render Work Area. Hope that helps.
  14. In need of a new camcorder for hooking upto my lipstick camera, managed to kill my DV walkman. My concern with the Sonys is that the analogue input is on the side and seems vunerable if I was to put it in a pocket or bum bag (fanny pack is just rude). Robb have you had any problems with snapping this connection off? I'm tempted by the PC55 for it's pure tinyness. But is it any good for filming in parks. Doesn't need to be superb quality as I've got a A1e for the high quality sutff. Just don't want a camera that is gonna look awful.
