Viva Las Vegas

Recommended Posts

So yeah, I leave for Vegas tomorrow night for the first time. I'll be there thursday night - sunday. So what are some things that I gotta check out while I'm there, and not just the coasters and other rides, and for those that don't know me I'm over 21, so I can have the full experience

Well DegoRed, ones first trip to Vegas is a right of passage for many adults, so to help you have a good time I broke this post into two different segments. One if you are a sinner, and the other if you're not.

If you're a sinner then read the first post, if not scroll down to the O.K. so your not a sinner portion.

***If you are unsure whether or not you're a sinner, then a good reference point would be whether you consider yourself a Kindred Spirit to Robb + Elissa (They Define the term Sinner)

O.K. so you're a sinner.....

Shows for you.

*Headlights and Tailpipes at the Stardust--An adult show featuring former Playboy Playmates (Not nasty worn-out Hustler chicks), in an erotic tale about Fast Cars and Fast Women.

*Skintight at Harrah's--Heart pounding good times for all.

*Zumanity-Cirque Du Soleil, at the New York New York--I actually saw this show a year ago, it's definitely a different Cirque Du Soleil experience (I've also seen KA and O ). At Zumanity you can actually have some personal interaction with the cast members, and you even get to see an obedient Gimp on stage. (Time to reexperience those Pulp Fiction memories)

*Chippendales at the Rio--Since I don't know what your "Personal" preferences might be, then this is for a Dude who prefers a show with All-Dudes.

Hotels for you.

HardRock--Famous pool, Celebrates + lots of people watching.

Palms--The "Ghost Bar" offers great views of the Vegas strip.

Monte Carlo--Robb + Elissa's hangout, it's in the center of all the action.

Mandalay Bay--Visit the "Rum Jungle"

TI-- Has an outdoor "Adult Themed" Pirate/Water show.

***You can also carry alcohol beverages while you walk the strip, but you can't bring any alcohol into Taxis.

***Lastly, if you feel like relaxing one night in your hotel room, then break out the Vegas Yellow Pages. Just turn to the letter "E" for Escorts, uhhhh....I mean Entertainment, this city loves to serve.

O.K. so your NOT a Sinner.....

Shows for you.

The Dolphin Encounter + Secret Garden (White Tigers Etc.) at the Mirage.

Shark Reef--1.6 million gallons of wholesome fun at the Mandalay Bay.

The Water Fountains at Bellagio.

The Grand Canyon/Hoover Dam Tours

The Nighttime Helicopter tour of the famous Vegas Strip.

Hotels for you.

Circus Circus (Please kill me quick)

Excalibur (Just about the same as Circus Circus)

Hilton--The Star Trek show is entertaining

***Lastly, there are many Churches at your disposal if you feel the need to CONFESS your Sinful Thoughts of Temptation. They may be able to Save you from becoming a member of the first group of this post.

Enjoy!

I think they pretty much covered it.

I do have a quick question, are you renting a car? If you are, definately check out Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area, its really nice. Also don't be scared to venture off from the Strip a bit.

Its gonna be hot while you're here (its been like 104 - 108 the past few days), so try to do more indoors stuff during the day. Use the monorail. Try out our new double decker busses called "The Duece". Keep in mind things that seem like walking distance arent necessarily. The resorts have a good way of making you do a lot of walking that seems pointless at times.

Also stop by Tix2Night or whatever its called. They have one at the Fashion Show Mall (on the strip next to TI). They have discounted tickets for pretty much all the attractions in town including the rides and shows.

Avoid the Circus Circus Buffet!

Just dont set your expectations too high and you'll have fun!

They also have a Tickets2Nite at the Showcase Mall next to the MGM Grand (Its in the giant Coke bottle).

If you have money (or you win a considerable amount), any of the Cirque Shows are pretty cool, granted you won't have any damn idea what the actual plot of the story is unless you have degrees in avant garde theater, interpretive dance, and music theory, but they are cool, and if the Beatles are your kind of music they have a new show at the Mirage called LOVE all done to original recordings of the Beatles (mixed of course) in a theater with some ungodly sound system.

As for any clubs, Andre Agassi has one at Caesars thats supposed to be damn good and popular as hell called PURE, Venetian has TAO, Luxor has RA, and more or less its a law in Vegas that all good clubs must be in all caps.

Some local casinos are worth checking out; namely Casino Monte Lago at Lake Las Vegas, Green Valley Ranch Station Hotel and Casino (The District is there which is pretty cool), and newly opened Red Rock Station.

Oh yeah, you must see the fountains at Belagio! I would also walk down the strip and check out all the hotels. If you go out of that area though, you will see the dirty area of Vegas, which is not a good place for a kid. but since you aren't a kid, no need to worry! I also recomend you walk next (in is always cool too!) to the Luxor hotel, it is very cool!

if you want, just check out the different resorts in las vegas. you don't have to gamble or spend money, just look around and see how nice the hotels are. good hotles for doing this are bellagio, ventiain, ceasras palace, ad the wynn all of the ritzy hotels. you can brag to your friends that you were in bellagio, excluding the part that you did not stay there.

LOL! Its true tho, all the new clubs always have to be in all caps!

btw...PURE is also co-owned by Celine Dion and Shaq, I guess Agassi needed some help.

Speaking of Agassi, that guy is all over town. Theres 24 Hour fitness Agassi Sport (gym), Andre Agassi Boys & Girls Club, and the Andre Agassi Prep Academy.

While I'm a lurker on this forum who registered for the coaster vids, as a local and former tourist I feel the need to kind of weigh in here. The guy way up above, he may mean well but some of the stuff he reccomends I wouldn't waste my time with and most other Vegas vets wouldn't waste their time with either.

I mean, seriously, the "Sirens" spectacle outside Treasure Island? That's close to one of the worst things that's happened to the Strip since the 9/11 downturn. 98% of the people who see it don't like it and want the old show back. It's cornier than all get.

As far as boobs/nudity/etc go:

Most of the Strip hotel boobie shows are pretty bad. Fantasy at Luxor is one that I can honestly tell you is decent, but if you're experienced enough seeing phony boobs, that seeing them live and in person is not very exiting, then you won't get as much enjoyment out of these as, say, a virgin who's never been around a naked woman. I haven't seen Headlights & Tailpipes, although I have seen the cars used out in the hotel parking lot, but I wouldn't want to see it. These former Playboy girls have their names in all the advertising, so you can Google their name and see their, uh, work.

Strip clubs are more, uh, eventful than the nudie production shows, but I can't speak for any of them because I don't ever go to them. I can tell you what everyone who does always reports though: The cabbies will try and long-haul across town to some cruddy joint for a huge commission (this may have changed as the clubs are trying to cooperate to put a stop to the comission arms race), drinks will be overpriced, unless you're spending money like mad on drinks and dances the girls will ignore you, and you're bounced if you do so much as even WANT to get closer with them than they choose to. It's just not a happy time, and some of the establishments are run by modern-day mob figures with bouncers who are known to send you to the hospital, so why bother?

Skintight at Harrah's does not exist anymore. It is now a western-themed show called Bareback. The guy behind those shows also produces nudie shows at the Rio and other hotels and they're all pretty bad. Again, every boobie show in the hotels are pretty darn cheesy, I just thought Fantasy was less cheesy than the others I've witnessed.

As far as normal tourist stuff goes:

I'm a bit of a Cirque du Soleil fan thanks to the shows in Vegas and I can reccomend any of the shows except for LOVE at Mirage and Zumanity at NYNY. The reason I can't reccomend LOVE (a 60s/Beatles themed show) is because it's brand new and I haven't seen it yet. The reason I can't reccomend Zumanity is because it's so bad it not only disappointed me as a Cirque fan, but I walked out. There is a lot of design and costuming in Cirque that can be naturally quite sexy (I want one of the zebra-striped girls from O, heh) but they tried too hard with this show.

As far as the regular Cirque shows, O is very artsy-fartsy as Cirque normally is, and doesn't seem to have any kind of conclusive idea of story, it's just a bunch of pretty scenes for no good reason why. Mystere is another semi-typical Cirque show with a stronger element of story, but KA has heavy storytelling for a Cirque show, the stagecraft and technology is STUNNING to watch in motion.

Before you make decisions on where to go and what to do, get yourself acquainted with CheapoVegas. These guys are serious cheapskates and they don't pretend you'll agree with them on what's the best way to take a vacation (they like to stay in the kind of dumps I have difficulty even walking past) but even despite their tastes they put on a pretty good list of the hotels, what can be done there, and leave it to you to decide if it's worth your time.

(cleaned up some crude language)

^Hey MMania, you need to lighten up, I wasn't recommending any of those shows. (I haven't been to any of them, other than the Cirque Du Soleil productions) My entire post was a light-hearted attempt at humor.

As for Zumanity, I agree with you, It Sucked!!! Within 30 minutes of being at this show I was looking at my watch wondering when it's going to end. My only solace was that my ticket was paid for by someone else.

Anyhow, welcome to the boards MMania! Post often!
