Lake Winnie/Dollywood/Carowinds Advice

So we were gonna do PKD and BGW, but this was cheaper airfare, anyway .. just wanted to know if you guys or anyone else had tips for these parks?

Lake Winnie is our first stop, then heading to Dollywood and the creepy NASCAR park, then over to Carowinds, hopefully Heritage USA if we can find an address or directions, then down to SFOG (we've been there before). Any advice with the parks or things to do at night or downtime?

Atlanta is a really nice city to go check out after SFoG has closed. And like Coasterdude said be sure to check out Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg they have a lot of cool stuff.

Atlanta is a very cool place to check out after SFoG closes - a lot of bars, restaurants, events always going on.

Definitely hit Gatlinberg since your at Dollywood, make sure to do their Alpine Slide - its a lot of fun and take their cable tram up to the Alpine Slide, awesome views. For fun, drive up the road to the resort, its a twisty 2 lane that's more thrilling that a lot of coasters. And the town itself is really touristy, so its worth walking around and taking in the sights.

Also, riding Thunderhead as late as possible in the day if you can arrange it - its great during the day, its even better at night.

Lake Winnie is a "throwback" park, get the wristband because tickets are pretty expensive overall. I like it, its a quirky park and the clientele is very Southern, read "redneck". Don't miss the dark ride there, its fairly well kept and their mouse is brutal!

Yeah we like running around closed parks, something interesting about the creepyness of them.

Anyways this is our plan:

Thursday:

- Lake Winnie

- Dollywood/Ober Gatinlinburg

Friday

- Dollywood

Saturday:

- Carowinds

- Heritage USA

Sunday:

- SFOG

We won't have time to wander around Atlanta like we did last time, but know there are alot of fun places there, maybe next time.

Yeah, I can't wait for our trip. Less than 2 weeks now!!! Well, 2 weeks from now I will be in ATL, Kristi doesn't get in until Thursday night.

Our plan is:

Friday (after my conference is over) drive to Pigeon Forge, eat at Carrabas somewhere along the way. Anybody know what time the Ober Gatlinburg stuff closes?

Saturday: Dollywood (they open at 9am). Back to ATL and a few hours at SFOG on Saturday night (they close at 10pm)

Sunday: SFOG until 1ish (we fly out at 4pm)

Anybody know if there are any discount's for Dollywood admission??? Thanks in advance.

Checked Ebay and Google, didn't find much for Dollywood Discounts. One person was selling two tix for $70 but that doesn't even seem like that great of a deal when you add shipping.

This is from their website:

What discounts are available?

Some East Tennessee area lodging facilities sell discounted Dollywood tickets to their patrons. A list of these facilities can be found on our Area Ticket Participants page.

We offer the following discount promotions:

March 26 - October 28, 2005, our "After 3:00 PM" program allows you to enter Dollywood after 3:00 PM and get in FREE the next operating day. Parking fees are not included. This program is valid on one-day Dollywood® admission tickets March 26, 2005 through October 28, 2005. It is not valid during the Smoky Mountain Christmas Festival.

March 26 - December 29, 2005, our "NEXT DAY" ticket allows Guests to enjoy Dollywood the next consecutive operating day for only $15.00 more! (Parking fees are not included.) After you have purchased your one-day admission ticket and have enjoyed your day at Dollywood, you can buy your "NEXT DAY" ticket at our Exchange Booth as you are exiting the Park. This ticket is valid the next consecutive operating day only and must be purchased the day of your visit before you leave Dollywood. This ticket is available March 26, 2005 through December 29, 2005.

What hotel are you staying at? Maybe you can buy some tix there!

Last year, i think the Ober Gatlingberg tram ran until like 9 or 10 pm.

I think the alpine slide ran until 7pm.

we were there real early in the season last year, before schools let out and the rides and stuff weren't open. The ice rink was, though.

Dollywood is an excelent park. Best food i've ever eaten at a park.

Friendliest staff i've ever seen at a park.

As a smoker, and this being my first no-smoking park, i had no problem obeying their rules regarding it when the staff pointed out the policy. It is just that beautiful there.

Pigeon forge is the go-cart mecca. I can't say i've ever seen more tracks anywhere. Most are fairly comparable to one another, but skip the Nascar tracks. They seemed a lot slower than the others.

Also in PF is an indoor ski-diving place. We went to it, but it was broken down that week.. bummer...

Enjoy! Wish i were going w/you...

Don't go to carowinds on a saturday, go to it on a monday, tuesday, or a wednesday. you might be able to ride hurler, cyclone, and vortex on a saturay, maybe drop zone if you're lucky.

Have no choice on the day since they are only open Fri-Sun when we go .. so we will just have toi bite the bullet and hope it's not crowded.

I'm pumped for Dollywood and the Pigeon Forge area .. since it's and SDC park, I know the food will be killer and the staff as well.

IM not sure where u plan on staying in the Dollywood area but one of my favorites is to rent a cabin I have stayed with a few rental places and they have some great deals on some very nice cabins. And even though Dollywood closes before dark if you feel adventurous in the summer just about everything stays open till the wee hours of the morning. Where else can you play putt-putt at 2 am.

and Ober, is fun if you drive up drive SLOWLY, i have learned that from my own! lol

p.s. and yes i got the chance to ride thunderhead at Christmas time at 8:30pm and it was total darkness, and yes it was 10 times more fun

Ok, now I'm being a complete noob, but thinking of adding Visionland to the trip.

They are open 10-3 on Thursday with a school thing, but no where does it say they are closed to the GP. Guess I'll have to call and find out what the deal is .. but hell I dunno .. I doubt I would enjoy it that much and doubt Zoomerang would be open, doubt I'd ride after that gap in the track.
