Theme park operator Euro Disney net loss widens threefold in fiscal first half

The Canadian Press

PARIS (AP) - French theme-park operator Euro Disney SCA said Thursday its net loss more than tripled in its fiscal first half because of one-time restructuring gains a year earlier.

Euro Disney's net loss rose to 102 million euros (US$126 million) in the six months ending March 31 from 29.8 million euros a year earlier.

The company, which operates the Disneyland and Walt Disney Studios parks in the Paris region, said its operating loss increased to 61.1 million euros ($75.9 million) from 51.2 million euros ($63.6 million) a year earlier, as revenue fell.

First-half revenue decreased 1.4 per cent to 467 million euros ($581 million) from 474 million euros last year, as both theme park attendance and hotel occupancy were lower.

Spending per hotel room decreased due to the discounting of room rates for certain vacation packages, Euro Disney said.

Real estate revenue grew 60 per cent from the prior year to 15.5 million euros ($19.3 million) because of increased land sales of residential property.

The group said it plans new attractions in the Walt Disney Studios Park from the beginning of the 2007 fiscal year to add to the appeal and capacity of Disneyland Resort Paris.

Euro Disney shares were nearly unchanged, to close at 0.10 euros (12 cents) in Paris trading.

^ And Journey To The Centre of The Earth.... or a variation there of... I have heard and/or read somewhere.

Seems DLP is going to keep coming up with a few new attractions which will all culminate in the resort's 20th Birthday in 2012.

And then...?

A few more big E-tickets at WDStudios is definitely a step in the right direction. Its making me think about coming back out. Hopefully they don't neglect the other park though.

Flippy Trick, the DS Paris version of Tower Of Terror is a clone of DCA's version, it will even look the same when its finished. I guess that means it will also have the Twilight Zone theme unlike TDS's "Hightower" version of the attraction.

See my "tower of terror variations" thread for recent construction photos on Paris' tower.

^ I have read, thru Disney Magazine (years and years of subscrips. here kids...) that quoting from the imagineers, THIS ToT is to be the real 'barn burner' when it comes to "communicating' the idea of what's happened, possibly going to happen, etc....

All w/o much French and/or English dialogue used.

Which is great, because like Phantom Manor and parts of Adventureland, the real "look" of the attractions is/are part of the themeing itself, per land, yes?

I 'heard/read' that the Twilight Zone 'theme' wouldn't work that well, thru so many languages, and cultures that really, don't or didn't follow it thru television, as we did over here in N.A.

So - they really have to pull it off, internally with VISUAL messageing and suggestion of most foul lightning, etc. etc. heh - heh - heh.

Will be so cool to finally ride one of these, no matter what they do with it, LOL.
