metrock Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Well I came across some old pictures of past halloween displays that I did at my house. I have so many, but here are a few to start off with. I guess this opens a new topic. Post pictures of what you like to do for Halloween. (Yeah, I know its April) In finished form In 2002 I wanted to do something larger than I did in the past. This is the result. This is from 2001. I had an old keyboard laying around. So I toook some scrap cardboard and foam, a little black spray paint and built a piano of sorts.
Luxo Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 That's really cool! I've always wanted to do something like that, but we've never had the budget.
metrock Posted April 14, 2006 Author Posted April 14, 2006 ^ I started decorating back in 1994 when I was 12. It has always been a zero/low budget. It wasn't untill the last few years (2001,2002) that I spent a large sum of money. You would be suprised what you can do with old lumber, cheese cloth and cheap lighting. Look around your neighborhood for people that are removing an old fence or doing some sort of construction. You can usually find some cool things. It might not look like much in the day light. But at night, it really all comes together. Since joining the Navy in 2003, my decorating as sort of been on hiatus. In 2007 things should start rolling again.
BelizeIt Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Hey Metrock! Must you remind us that Knotts Halloween Haunt isn't for almost another six months!!! I noticed in your photos to celebrate Halloween, that you chose a classic "Cemetery" Theme. Do you think that your subconscious came up with that idea, do to your close proximity to Leisure World??? Since you put up the extra effort to decorate for Halloween, do any of your neighbors do the same? It's great when you have several houses decked-out for this Fun Night!
lapseofreason Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 This makes me wish that I had a yard. My parents never let us do anything besides cardboard tombstones and those fake cobwebs that get stuck in the bushes for 6 months... oh , and maybe some of those orange and white Christmas lights with skulls and pumpkins conveniently placed over them. I remember some years, trick or treating, a few people actually built haunted mazes in their yards. We were always too scared to go but now I think it would have ruled. Now I live in an apartment and I can't do anything besides screw one of those glow-in-the-dark skeletons to the door, with more fake cobwebs and fake bats and spiders. Man, I need a yard. -Amanda "I love Halloween" V.
saturday97 Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 How cool! Funny, I've been thinking about our Halloween decorations lately too. We want to do a Nightmare Before Christmas this year. Last year we had a lot of decorations but no real theme. I took pics of the NBC overlay at the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland so that I could recreate some of their decorations, like the skull wreaths and the Jack Skellington scarecrows. This will be my big summer project.

They have a few Haunted Mansion Holiday related projects that you might want to check out. I don't really get to do anything too scary on halloween. I usually just crack open my window, which is close to the front door, and I play Midnight Syndicate on the CD player. I also draw chalk line bodies in the street. They usually don't last very long because cars run them over and smear the chalk everywhere.
saturday97 Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Gracias, J Man!!!! Doombuggies had some great stuff! Loved the Grim Grinning Ghost plywood cutouts. I plan to make a big Oogie Boogie out of plywood and flourescent green paint. And I like the chalk outline idea, too!
TwistedTrack Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 We have had to haunted houses in our garage, but I still have fun jumping out of the bushes near my door and scary people, unless they freak out and through a punch. haha
