Coaster Height Records

I was wondering, which coaster held the record for height the longest amont of time? I think it would have to be a coaster that opened before 1989. After that, that when the height war started. That is why my guess would have to be The Beast.

 

Does anyone know this? It is hard when you havent been around the late 70s early 80s

no because Mamba was built after it. And then Superman UE was built a few years after.

For full-circuit steel in the U.S., Matterhorn held the record (80 ft.) from 1959 to 1970 (Big Bend topped it in 1971).

 

For wood, the Revere Beach Cyclone held the record (100 ft.) from 1925 to 1969.

 

It gets fuzzier for steel if you include non full-circuit rides.
