Bowserjoe Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 Since you can talk about anything here, I am going to advertise my site. It's called North East Coaster Central. I have a forum, a chatroom, a monthly poll, and some of my own original photos from Northeastern parks. The forum is also a great place to exchange files for NoLimits, Scream Machines, RCT, and so on. Well so far, my site has failed, but can easily be rivied with the help of a couple members. I have advertised all over the internet for months and nobody seems to care, so this site is my last hope. Words cannot describe how desperate I am for members. There's no downside to joining, it only takes a minute, and you'll be very glad. The chatroom is one thing that makes my site unique from most coaster sites, and guess what? The chatroom hasn't been used once. So I hope someone considers joining. ADMIN EDIT: LINK REMOVED Don't ignore it because it's freewebs. It's efficient enough right now for what I need. ADMIN NOTE: Sorry, but you obviously didn't read our TOS regarding site advertisements: 14. Posting Links or "Spamming" - If you are a brand spanking new user with very few posts, and you're linking to YOUR personal website or forum or some other website just to advertise, don't do it. Your link will be pulled. The moral of the story: If you're an active user, you can post links to stuff, if you're spamming, expect to get kicked in the groin! 7 Posts does NOT equal "active user." --Robb
Homer Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 I have advertised all over the internet for months and nobody seems to care Because its like every other darned coaster site on the planet. The chatroom is one thing that makes my site unique from most coaster sites This site has a chatroom, TN has a chatroom, CoasterForce has a chatroom... not that unique . Look, any person (even a 2 year old) can manage and start a coaster forum on sites like Forumer, Freewebs, and InvisionFree. But probably 99% of standalone forums fail. You would get posts if either; A. You already had a main site that has had a huge following for years (like this one). -or- B. Your coaster site is about a specific park/subject. Although it would be a signifigcantly smaller community. Felt like venting that out about newbies advertising...
Bowserjoe Posted March 25, 2006 Author Posted March 25, 2006 Did you even look at my site? I think it's pretty darn good for freewebs, and it is about specific parks in a way. The Northeasern ones. How is my site not as attractive as this one? I don't get it! One other thing. You said my site is a standalone forum. No it's not. It's a website with a forum on the side.
Weezer8976 Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 No seriously, his site is really good, im a mod/admin there. Join!
DeliriumTrigger Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 Well odds are the link is going to be pulled anyways (read #14 in the terms of service) but after looking at the first page I see nothing to draw me in. *Repeating background pictures are annoying *While you may be limited in your storage capacity, get some pictures put up using imageshack, or another service like it. The thumbnail and said background isn't enough to keep people looking. *Green text on a green background...probably not a good idea. As far as forums go...like Homer said, the only way to get a large rush of members all at once like this site did is to have a popular site running for a few years. Otherwise...expect slow registrations.
SonOfBeastSucks Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 It does not matter how good the site is, it is frowned upon to post links to websites when you have basically no posts. Become a regular poster, and feel free to post your link.
Bowserjoe Posted March 25, 2006 Author Posted March 25, 2006 As far as forums go...like Homer said, the only way to get a large rush of members all at once like this site did is to have a popular site running for a few years. Otherwise...expect slow registrations. You say my site must be popular to get more members. That statement is ambiguous because getting more members is the only way my site will get popluar. And the only way I can think to get more members is to get more members is to advertise all over the place. Since it's freewebs, I can't submit my site to google or anything like that.
DeliriumTrigger Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 I meant getting a rush of members to a forum. It is possible to run a site without a forum...Running around starting topics saying "Please join my forums/site or they/it will die" isn't the best way to do it. In fact, it tends to turn people away. If you have to beg for members, people won't think its worth visiting. Your best bet is to get something up to offer. Pictorials, videos, and then become a well established member of other forums and plug those individual items rather than the whole site/forums.

I actually tried making a page with a video, but it didn't work. Anyway, I think I am hopeless. I guess I'll try adding more pics with ImageShack, but I can only upload 100 files, so it is hard to make my site something spectacular. Basically I guess I've just always wanted to have my own successful coaster site, but i guess I just can't. I'll experiment anyway. I still think advertising may work since it will make people feel bad for me and then maybe they'll join for sympathy's sake.
pkdcoaster Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 My advice to you Bowserjoe is to make the site FOR YOU...do not make it to please everyone else..like people said....you need to have a solid site for a while before forums are popular...this site was up for like 4 years before the forums...so you need to give it time. JEFF
DeliriumTrigger Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 ^^I'm not trying to discourage you...sites take a LOT of work to get popular. And trying to get a free-hosted site popular is damn near impossible. But don't let it get you down; if anything at least you get practice out of it. ^I think the 10 year anniversary is coming up...so that would have put the forums online at what, year 8? Not sure though.

JEFF Ok, whatever. I still think one major difference is that you will find this site through google, and not mine.
Canobie Fan Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 I joined your site.. But you banned me as I called you a DUMBASS...LOLZ
robbalvey Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 I'm closing this thread for two reasons: 1. Bowserjoe, you did NOT read our TOS regarding advertising sites: Rule #14. 7 posts does not equal "active user", 5 of which were in this thread! And #2. WTF is with your attitude? It would have been one thing if you had posted the link and accepted people's constructive criticism, but you gave people attitude for simply stating an opinion. Had you not been a jerk I might have actually left the link up. But with that kind of attitude I don't think you deserve the traffic! At least not from us. --Robb "Don't go rolling your eyes at people who are simply trying to help you out." Alvey
