I am planning on visiting germany the second week in July to hit some parks. This is just after the world cup finishes so I was wondering if anyone had any idea how busy Germany will be?

Do people usually hang around after the World cup or go straight home?

Is this a busy or quite time in Germany anyway?

This is a very good point - one which I almost over-looked in planning a similar German coaster trip for later this year! (Thanks for the reminder!)

I would suspect (and I could be wrong here) that most people who travel out to Germany for the World Cup will stay there for the matches they either have tickets for or hope to get tickets for, and then go home again once it's all over in order to go back to work etc. So, I would imagine that the second week of July wouldn't be too bad in terms of large numbers of people travelling around in order to get to venues. It looks like the runners-up match is on 8th July in Stuttgart and the final is on 9th July in Berlin. Germany is a big country, so as long as you avoid those areas on those days, you'll probably be fine.

Good luck planning your trip!

I reckon that a lot of the cities will still be suffering a post-World Cup hangover, and probably won't look their best. Some people may stay on afterwards (depending who wins).

If Germany win, the whole country will go bananas.

I went to the last World Cup.

As far as I could tell, the busiest time for vast amounts of non-locals was the first 2 weeks for the group games (when your team is guaranteed at least the 3 matches). After that the crowds really thinned out (in terms of non-locals). Around the matches was still busy though, with lots of England fans just flying out for a single game.

I was gutted after we lost to Brazil, so I only hung around until the semi-final (as I had a ticket for that) and flew off to LA the day after that. I had planned to fly out a week later, after the victorious England team had lifted the Cup.....but that wasn't to be.....

...but this year....oh yesyesyes!

There are only some games left in july (semi finals / finals) so I wouldn`t expect to much foreign crowds who are visitig the wc games, BUT july is the only month the whole country are on school vacation, also nearly every neighboring country is on vacation - so july is always really busy (especially the motorways). On the other side july is a nice time to travel.

@davidmorton:

by the way I wouldn`t expect to much from your team, Sven Göran did a brilliant job in demotivatating his players

But I also think no one in germany will go bananas because our team will be not to lucky this time.

To be exactly we will get Kicked.

We don`t have the hint of a Chance.

And of course we will go Bananas, because Ollie Kahn is our Goal Keeper.

Don't be that pessimistic! I mean, look at how many people laughed about Kahn saying:"I want to win the cup!" 4 years ago and then the "Oh so pathetic" Mannschaft went straight to the final. As much as I don't want to overestimate the team's skills, I hate it when people say that they don't have the slightest chance.

But I think this is just a German thing to lower the expectations beforehand for not being disappointed if it doesn't work.

Don't be a pessimist, we'll get very far. And if not, it's just a sport.

Eddie Johnson and Brian Ching looked good against Guatemala. If they stay unbeaten in these warm up games and keep playing that well in the the world cup , maybe Soren will be happy to be in the states?
