verticalzero Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Any news update on this ride is it open to the public yet..?
CoasterPete Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 The Coney Island Cyclone usually opens for the season near the end of March. So no, it's not currently open to the public. Pete
verticalzero Posted February 7, 2006 Author Posted February 7, 2006 As the ride had an accident last year it was closed for the remaining days of the season. Will it be open in March or will it be SBNO ..?
coasterfreak101 Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 A few questions: 1) Isn't the Coney Island Cyclone the original Cyclone model? 2) What happened in the aciident? It would be very sad to see the original (if it is) Cyclone SBNO !
HCOSurfer90 Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 1. Yes I'm pretty sure 2. A wheel fell off and the train halted at the bottom of the first drop
Zingo! Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 1) I'm pretty sure it is the original Cyclone model. I'm not nearly as educated in wood coaster history as most though, so not completely sure on that one. I know it is the most well known Cyclone, built in 1927. 2) The train came to an abrupt halt at the bottom of the first drop due to misaligned track. There was some speculation that the incident was attempted to be kept quiet. I'm sure a google search would help!
larrygator Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 From the Astroland website : Astroland is open weekends Sunday, April 9th - June 11th and daily June 16th - September 4th, and then weekends Sept 9th - Mid October date to be determined Astroland has traditionally opened on Palm Sunday (the Sunday before Easter). For the atheists, agnostics or anyone else who has never heard of Easter you can always check the website if you don't want to follow this handy tip.
WalrusMan Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 Since it hasn't been exactly answered, yes the Coney Island Cyclone is the Cyclone that all the other clones are based off of, usually greatly changed though, height added, track added, and banking severely added. Take a look at some photos of the first drop POV of the original Cyclone and SFMM's Psyclone.
verticalzero Posted February 15, 2006 Author Posted February 15, 2006 No-one has answered my question: Will it be running/open for the 2006 season or will it be SBNO
