chaos Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 The only SLC I've ever ridden is Kong, and it seemed smooth to me, but other SLCs are probably a lot rougher.
saxman47 Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 I've ridden the Great Nor'Easter in Wildwood NJ probably about a dozen times, and while it's definately not B&M smooth, I still find it enjoyable. It definately gives you that "not knowing what to expect" feeling throughout the whole ride. I think Vekoma sometimes gets a bad rap that they really don't deserve. Sure, they've had some flops, but they have made a decent number of good rides, especially when it comes to their efforts with disney.
Darien Laker Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Eh, they're not really that good, or that bad. Mind Eraser @ SFDL is the only one i've done multiple times, and it sure does beat your ears up. The restraints are huge as well. I have, however, been on rougher coasters in my life, and when running two trains, it can be a near walk-on.
niiicolaaah Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 I like SLCs. Of the steel looping coasters I've been on, only two were not made by either Arrow or Vekoma, so I guess the roughness just doesn't bother me.
Superdasher Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 SLCs are officially dubbed as being THE useless coaster type out there. They're not very different from B&M Inverts, meaning that they can't deliver any real thrill that a good B&M Invert can't deliver. Add in the VERY awkward restraints most of them have, and the fact that they're extremely rough and have headrests that maximize head bashing, and SLCs are biting the dust in every aspect. Martinb, the Jubilee Odyssey has a unique layout, is not too rough, and is considered the "king" of pretty much every SLC out there. Or at least that's what I've heard (I've never been to England to ride it). As for the SLC clone, it pulls some good Gs in the rollover, if that says anything. Put it this way, there's nothing a standard SLC can deliver (apart from headaches) that Batman The Ride can't deliver ten times better. Only ride SLCs if you dislike all other coasters in the world, or if you're a "credit whore". This Vekoma clone really doesn't have much to offer. Ride them once for the credit, then move on. Super "I think even a Boomerang is a better ride than a cloned SLC" Dasher
runnerodb83 Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 whoever asked about the Giant Boomer....they are quite smooth, well as far as I can remember. Regular boomers are pretty intense if you sit at the very front or back, but Giant Boomers are fast, wild and a lot of fun. IMO, Deja Vu at SFMM is the 2nd most intense ride behind X.
timetrial3141592 Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 Mind Eraser is enjoyable. The layout is insane (especially the turn-hill thing.) I can handle headbanging.
the sound Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 3. They all really hurt. There is probably not one good SLC. I say Lethal Weapon is pretty good. I didn't get much headbanging, suprisingly. I was quite amazed that it didn't have headbanging, so i went on amother inverted coaster a few days later. This one a few days later had headbanging, and a Intamin one did also have headbanging. Yet this 1 SLC didn't. And thats the story of the good SLC, which BTW has an extra HELIX!
viking86 Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 I have ridden 2 slc's, and while they had some headbanging, it wasnt really painfull. Not comfortable, but not painfull. Colossus @ Thorpe park was more uncomfortable and the restraints were even worse.
