Cdn Mndbndr Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 If memory serves me, I actually remember hearing that CBS, was looking to sell it's theme park division, many months ago. After hearing a couple days ago, that CBS (UPN 38??) and Warner Brothers (WB 11??) were partnering/merging, to form a new network it makes me wonder? Does one thing have anything to do with the other? Maybe CBS is selling the parks to position itself better in case the new network fails. All I know, is that with new owners, Canada's Wonderland will maybe see some more investment in decent rides at the park. The last 2 rides we have received have sucked ass big time. (IJ and Tomb raider) As far as IJ being built at Kings Island, it does say in the article posted by Shari: "The company says the parks will operate normally while a sale is negotiated. " To me that would mean that IJ, will still be built.
DannyBoy Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 Interesting news. Hopefully whoever ends up buying sinks a few bucks in to PCW. Probably the roughest collection of headache inducin coasters....and its the one I live near .
DannyBoy Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 headache inducin coasters?????????? *Inducing* ie. you leave the park with a headache. Poor maintenance is what I'm getting at. DB
dougr Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 This comes as no big surprise. Viacom/CBS has said they want to concentrate more on key operations. Last year, they sold Famous Players theatres to Cineplex Galaxy, which means that one corporation owns about 80% of movie screens around here. Fortunately, the federal government made them sell off a few theatres, so now we get to see how good Empire is. I don't think all this buying and selling is good for the products, but maybe with a good owner, things can improve. Maybe we can get a Digital Projection System WEST OF TORONTO! (Are you listening, Cineplex?) It also would be nice to be able to use my Playland pass say at PGA or Calaway.

And Kings Island already has IT:ST, it was built at the same time as PCW. PKD I beleive is the park that is currently building the 3rd one. Hopefully if PCW is sold seperatly it'll stop being a cash cow for the Paramount chain. PCW is only slightly behing PKI in attendance, and yet it has gotten little attention of the years.
Cdn Mndbndr Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 King's Island/King's Dominion both look the same @ 5 am! Ooops pardon my error. IJ was overhyped, it's too short, and the effects suck.
Carnage Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 ^ Overhyped definetly. But still a decent ride. Though in PCWs case it's a success just because it's so much better then what they had gotten recently.
UberBeavis Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 I remember hearing something about this in May of 2005. Paramount was floating out the idea of selling the parks; the response from many industry insiders was that Paramount was asking too much.
disneygurlz2s Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Sorry it's taken me a few days to report back on this....but, to be honest, I haven't anything to report. The Cash Control gang at PKI were no more "in the know" than the GP when we were together Friday night. It does sound as if they are looking to sell the entire Paramount Parks division, as in all 5 parks together, not split them up. If I hear anymore, I will be sure to post it here!
