coasterace Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Hi everyone! Since I know a lot of people on here are out in CA, I figured this would be a good place to ask this. I just found out that I am getting sent on a 4-5 week business trip to Fresno, CA starting sometime in Feb, till about the middle of March. (exact dates not know yet) I want to know how I can get some park trips in! Being as I am in PA, where our coaster season is still closed for a few months, it would be nice to get some parks in. I will be working M-F, and the company will only pay for me to fly home every 2 weeks, so I will have some weekends out there. I have been to SFMM, Knotts, DL, DCA - but I am always looking to go back! When is Spring Break in CA? I already know I should probably avoid Presidents Day weekend if I am out there then. Any help appreciated! Thanks!
What Now Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 Spring Break Varies from district to district. LA schools usaully have their Spring Break the week before or after Easter. SCBB is open year round, while the other Nor Cal parks open in early March.
gisco Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Wow, what do you do that will bring you to here to Fresno for 5 weeks? Spring break here in the Fresno area is the week before Easter which is April 10th to the 14th. If you are a coaster whore there are 2 little kiddie coasters here. One is at Blackbeards Family Fun Center and the other at Rotary Playland by the Zoo. I don't think there is any size restrictions but at Blackbeards at least you have to ride 2 to a car. So if you need someone to go with let me know. March 11th is Solace at KBF. I went last year and plan on going again this year. It is a good time to get ERT at Knotts. In the middle of the day a lot of people go to Adventure City that has a couple of coasters. Since it is closing later this year it is a last chance to ride those two. Usually on the 12th, Rideworld does something at MM. Get in early and get ERT on 3 coasters. They talked about ERT on Tatsu if it's finished by then. You will also probably be able to find Robb & Elissa hanging around these parks and other TPR members that weekend. Not much is going to be open North of Fresno until April 1st. The exception is SCBB which is open on the weekends. In Southern California everything is open I think, at least on the weekends. Besides the ones you have been to, there is Universal, Seaworld, Legoland and other small parks all open. To give you a rough idea the time it takes to drive there from Fresno. SCBB is about 2-1/2 hours, MM is about 3-1/2 hours, DLR is 4-1/2 hours and Seaworld is 5-1/2 hours. Hope that helps Bob
Sean Menefee Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 SFMW opens March 4th if you're up for the drive.
gisco Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 SFMW is the one park I didn't check when it would open this year. I have done it one day. It's about 3-1/2 hours to get there. You could make a weekend out of it by going to both SFMW and SCBB and even spend a little time in San Francisco. Bob
Sean Menefee Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 SFMW is also open till December 31st, 2006 as well. People from the Sacramento valley will finally have a park to go to that isn't 3+ hours away, that's open almost year round. Extended seasons rule.
PhishyBrewer Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Sorry to hear you have to be in Fresno for 5 weeks.
cfc Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Here's one interesting fact about Fresno--it's the hometown of movie director Sam Peckinpaugh. No wonder his flicks were so violent.
Blazen_AZN Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 First and foremost, i want to extend my condolenses to you for having to stay in Fresno for five weeks. That's going to be hell. ... then again i went to the Miss California USA pagent there once because my sister was in it. (she got top ten) THAT was pretty fun... Then again, when is staying in a hotel with over a hundred really hott (and really nice!) chicks NOT fun??? ---- opps, im rambling a bit... What exactly are you looking for tips on?
Loser_nerd Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 you guys think fresno is bad, i live in tulare, a miniture fresno, fourty five minuets away, with nothing to do. In fact, ill be in fresno friday for a drumline competition.
PhishyBrewer Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Does Mix Master Mike still live in Fresno? Maybe you can hang with him.
WalrusMan Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 OK so from Fresno take Hyway 41 north into Yosemite. Seriously at least one time during your stay. As for the Parks, really all you'll get is probably SCBB, or if you really want to go to SFMW then I guess you can. PGA won't be open most likely, although Bonfonte Gardens may be open, I'm not sure. SCBB is worth the trip though, see the coast, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, and ride the Dipper.
coasterace Posted January 25, 2006 Author Posted January 25, 2006 Thanks for the suggestions! I am a corporate trainer and I will be teaching a class of new hires for the company I work for. They have not given me an exact start date yet, but it looks like it will be Feb 20, which means I'll have to go out the Thurs/Friday beforehand so I have one day in the office to set up. I don't mind driving, but I don't think I'll go as far south as SW So it tentatively looks like this for my weekends: Feb 18-19 SCBB, maybe San Fran, Mystery Spot, plus I found out there is a little park in Fresno Feb 25-26 Knotts - Buy CF season pass, dunno what else that weekend (March 4-5) come home for the weekend March 11-12 DLR/DCA, my boyfriend will fly out to join me . March 18 -19 possibly if I go for 5 wks. - do SFMW/SFMM buy SF season pass If I buy a Knotts Season pass, I can use it back home at CP/GL, etc. right(?) Thanks again for all your help (and sympathy!! If I gotta do this for work, I might as well make the best of it! Pam (coasterace)[/b]
PhishyBrewer Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 If I buy a Knotts Season pass, I can use it back home at CP/GL, etc. right(?) I believe it's only the Cedar Point pass that won't get you into Geauga Dog. Unless you upgrade of course. But I think a Knott's pass gets you into all the Cedar Fair parks. If you do get a Knott's pass though, you'll still have to get a comp ticket every time from guest services when you visit another Cedar Fair park. I learned that when I tried using my Cedar Point pass at Knott's. Anyway... that's a hell of a lot of driving. So folks really don't know how HUGE Calfornia is until they get here. When my step-mom visited us in Sacramento years ago, she said she wanted to goto the San Diego zoo. She changed her mind after I told her it was 8 hours away. Enjoy!

Enjoy![/quote] I had a salesman call me at 10:30 in the morning and tell me he would take me to lunch. He didn't show up until 2:00 P.M. He was in San Francisco and thought Fresno was only about an hour South. He said it looked close on the Map! People just don't realize how big the state is. It is a 5 hour drive just to get out of the state from here. Everybody likes to bash Fresno. Why? It is not a bad place. For the people who live here and complain there is nothing to do, they would complain no matter where they lived.
PhishyBrewer Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 I haven't spent a lot of time in Fresno... but the time I did spend there, I didn't like. GO BULLDOGS!
