I got rear-ended by an off-duty cop in a squad car and totaled my car on Thursday. Totally the cop's fault - even the officer filing the report said so. I was stopped for someone who pulled out in front of me, and he hit me going about 45 mph, slamming me into the car ahead.

Fortunately, I always wear my seat belt, but the air bag did a number on my nose and forehead. I also sustained a concussion and some minor soft-tissue damage in my left shoulder. It could have been much, much worse.

I felt pretty horrible the past few days, but am starting to feel better now. Until I have to start taking the bus to work, and begging people for rides to school again. Grrrrrr.

Yeah at least you got an honest cop!

So where's the Photo TR?!?!?

Feel better!

I know! The first thing I thought was, "it's a cop - I'm screwed!" But really, there was no denying what happened. I had to stop for someone who stopped in front of me. I had plenty of room to stop. He must not have been paying attention, because he didn't even try to brake.

Sorry I didn't have a camera on me! Actually, I was sneaking away from my clinical during lunch (we're not supposed to leave the hospital) so I could print my paper that was due by the end of the day. Can't get more busted than that!

I'm sure our cops here would somehow make it "your fault" even if they did hit you from behind. I actually had to stop on my street because a cop decided he wanted to race down the street driving on both sides of the road. To top it off, our cops pull us over for not stopping at stop signs yet they almost always never stop, but just drift thru.

Just think of it this way. Since it was a cop in a patrol car, your set. Dont expect to pay for anything, because since he was in the patrol car, its now the police station's problem. Heres another way to look at it lightly... You couldnt have gotten hit by anyone better! Hope you feel better. Being in an accident, even if its not your fault, can be very stressful.

Glad to hear you're okay! Getting hit like that can be deadly. Good thing the gas tank held.

I hope the cops story doen't change. Being in the 'Industry', you'd be surprised by what you hear and see.

Personally, I've never seen an 'At fault' for any cop on his MVR or CLUE report.

The same thing sort of happened to my mom when she got into a minor car accident. She was alright when the car hit her, but the airbag caused her to get 6 stitches on her chin. If the airbag hadn't of gone off, she would've left the accident completely unscathed.

Yeah, I'm a little nervous about that. We're meeting with the investigator from a personal injury attorney's office on Friday. I'm not a fan of litigation, but I have to cover my butt. My husband said they were practically drooling over the phone when he told them the details. Apparently, the Jacksonville police department has been having quite a few publicity problems lately, and is eager to settle cases like this quickly. I just hope it doesn't blow up in my face.
