mtavenger55 Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 My last trip to a theme park was GADV back on August 27, 2014. When you're 26 & married, have a mortgage, & with a baby on the way your priorities change dramatically. Anyway for Father's Day this year I got my Dad tickets to see the Philadelphia Soul Arena football team & we decided to go to Dorney in the morning since the game was a 6pm in the Allentown PPL center. The forecast called for rain, but that didn't stop us! On to the TR: It rained on the way to the park. The skies have opened up! First up Steel Force! Such a great coaster! Can't go wrong with a good old classic woodie! Thunderhawk got some shiny new trains this year! I've always admired the signs at Cedar Fair parks! Stinger! Dominator! Went on the Drop side (green). Talon: The Grip of Fear is such an awesome coaster! Before Talon I went on the Wild Mouse just forgot a pic. Standard Maurer Wild Mouse design. Fancy sign! Nice little B&M floor less coaster. I passed on Possessed this time. Not a fan. At around 4:30 we made our way to the PPL Center. I ended the day having ridden 6 coasters & 10 laps. Got on Steel force 4x! No new credits so I'm still at a healthy 315. Are you ready for some football!? The field is 50 yards long. The field goal posts are 9 ft wide unlike the outdoor game's 18 ft wide. Getting ready for a TD! One of the many. if you're a fan of the sport of (American) football I recommend giving Arena Football a watch. It's a very fast pace intense game. There's only 8 teams this season, but they still play 16 games like the NFL. I'm a big sports fan & this sport is one of my favorites! Oh & this sport can be very high scoring! I tell people it's a mix of basketball & hockey. Thanks for reading my TR. I will be going to Dollywood next week! Hoping Lightning Rod works for me.
jynx242 Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Thanks for the pictures! Sounds like you and your dad had a fun time!
mtavenger55 Posted July 11, 2016 Author Posted July 11, 2016 Arena football looks tremendously fun. It is! Very intense too. The players don't make nearly as much as other athletes so it's cool watching a group of guys actually caring about the game. jynx242 thanks it was a much needed Daycation!
SFOG1991 Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 I went to an arena football game a few years ago and it was a blast! Under rated sport. Dorney looked fun as always. The park gets a lot of crap but you have to love a park with tons of coasters and never any lines. You won't get that at Great Adventure or Hershey.

I've always liked Dorney. We go there every year for Halloween Haunt too. Basically every ride was a walk on!

Sadly, Georgia Force folded a few years ago. I have a love hate with Dorney. It makes me sad that most of the parks history is completely gone, and yeah they don't have any super intense impressive standout coaster, but the park is still very nice, they have a solid lineup of decent coasters (hey I like Hydra, don't get the hate), and Demon Drop is one of a kind now basically. At the end of the day, they are basically the largest park to not have bad lines so it really is a hidden gem in that respect.

It's a shame so many teams (including the Arena Bowl champs from last year) aren't around. The league is growing though with D.C. adding a team next year & hopefully more to follow. I'm glad Dorney is keeping Thunderhawk around. It really is their last true classic. I can't believe Steel Force will be 20 next year!
