Hey, howdy, hey! I am making this thread about flat rides mistaken as roller coasters, so we can just talk about anything you have about them.

I am just shocked that Six Flags would name their Super Loops as coasters!

I believe the main reason that they're labeling them as coasters is because it helps them in advertising the ride. Us enthusiasts know that they aren't coasters, but the GP is a bit more gullible, so they're more likely to believe it. I'm not a huge fan of parks doing this, but it works for them, so I guess it isn't that bad. Valleyfair and Cedar Point both labeled their new Zamperla Disk'O coasters as new coasters, and everyone seems to be going along with it.

Conversely, I've also heard a lot of people say that shuttle coasters like boomerangs, half-pipes, and impulses aren't coasters simply because they don't complete a full circuits, but since this is the GP that we're talking about, that doesn't really surprise me.

Before I knew better, I actually mistook Himalayas as roller coasters. To me, if there were "cars" and they were on a "track", it was a roller coaster. So if it sorta looks like a roller coaster why not call it one? To a GP, a roller coaster definitely sounds more interesting than a stationary looping flat ride.

It's totally down to marketing as far as I see it. A NEW Roller Coaster sounds infinitely more exciting in marketing material than anything else so if they can call their new ride a coaster then they can.

If enthusiasts feel a ride is not classed as a coaster (of any definition) then they do not have to see it as a coaster.

Personally, I agree and think the Ring of Fire rides are not coasters but i'm perfectly happy letting Six Flags call them coasters if they wish as I know it's really there as a marketing idea.

I think this is a question that is of importance only to coaster enthusiasts. We've had these endless "coaster/not a coaster" debates for years.

^ Exactly Chuck! Enthusiasts can class rides however they like. A park can market their rides however they like.

I guess people just have to deal with that.

Personally, I class a coaster as anything that appears on RCDB and am happy to go by that.

I'll never understand why anyone cares about this. As others have said it's good marketing and if they fool anyone into going to the park because they think it's a coaster than good for them.

We all know they're not coasters so it shouldn't matter what the park says.
