rcjp Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 ^That's what I was thinking: none of the POVs look that insane. But I totally believe the ride must be extremely intense, it's just that some coaster that never seem quite as intense as they actually are when you look at a POV.
larrygator Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 (edited) http://www.themeparkreview.com/parks/photo.php?pageid=27&linkid=6255&pageno=2 Â Even without video, these stills taken by Robb capture the intensity of Tornado. Edited April 15, 2014 by larrygator
gerstlaueringvar Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 This is exactly my type of ride! Is the chain lift launch very loud? They covered the lift of the Mack wild mouse but Tornado's launch sounds very loud from an off-ride video I watched earlier.
alilstronger Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 WOW Tornado looks awesome! Also the park looks pretty and I would love to see it with everything blooming. I wish I was going on the Scandi trip really bad! Hopefully next summer does not make it 3 summers in a row without a TPR trip fix.

It has the same system as Fahrenheit and the zacspin's, so there is no anti-rollback. It's not really loud, about the same as a regular chain lift. It's also enclosed like the wild mouse.  The original plan was to build an Intamin accelerator coaster, but that was considered to have to big of an impact, as well as being to loud. That's why Tornado was built, and that's why it is so intense.

rcjp Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Also, just to be sure: is the chain powered by a normal electric motor or is it some different system?
DJeXeL Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 (edited) The Intamin Dual-Chain lifts use a Hydraulic system. Â In these images you can see the hydraulic lines going into chain sprocket drive. Â Fahrenheit @ HP Â GL @ SFMM Edited April 16, 2014 by DJeXeL
rcjp Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 ^Thank you. I didn't know that. I thought those had a regular electric motor. Does intamin only use this system for those rides or for more?
Loefet Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 I think it's just for those rides. Tornado uses the same kind of hydraulic system as an accelerator hence the speedy lift launch. Not sure if the zac-spins have those parts through.
DJeXeL Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 (edited) ^^As far as I know only the ZacSpins, Water attractions w/ vertical lifts, Tornado, and Fahrenheit use this system. I'm not sure why Intamin decided on the Hydraulic route as opposed to electric motors. I'm sure there's some benefit but I'm not sure what it is. Edited April 16, 2014 by DJeXeL
Loefet Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Doesn't their water rides with the vertical lift have dual chains as well? Wonder if those at hydraulic as well?
DJeXeL Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 ^Ah, yes you're correct. I'm not sure either but the nerd in me wants to find out!
